  1. I find it strange that everyone says no one wants green budgies but all bar one of the budgie I have sold since i have started breeding where green! People breeding to show seem to want the green factor, people wanting pets want the green bubs. My pet pair do not produce green babies (well not very offen and even then they are not the standard green) so I am looking into getting another pair that might produce more green babies so I can move people off my waiting list.
  2. Already thought of that. Front - would have to go down the side of the property (we are the back of 4) through number ones garage then through two back yards so that is not an option. To the left - They have a Shed that we would have to take it over so that is out To the right - Large hedge it can not go over that plus we have trees along that side To the back - she will not let us (we asked before) Yeah so through the front door is the option
  3. Great find, only one issues I could never get it into my back yard, rang the guy it does not come apart and I have to take whatever I buy through my front door (That was really goot set up)
  4. Have used the Nikon D60 does great shots of polo ponies in action! Have not used the other two but I figure that it should be a good camera for birds flight shots.
  5. The vet did test and since she got the bird down there within an hour of the last one dieing (she was on her way with the remainig one and he died either on the way or at the vet I can't remember) all the test should have shown something. Looking at her seed there you can see what they liked and what they did not eat. I always thought Budgies will eat whatever is infront of them, but I guess this is not always the case. Graned she was not buying the best quality seed (local supermarket type not sure which one) but this was the last option in a long line that we went down. I can't see another option as to what happened
  6. Wow thanks for that never knew that!
  7. Nice Budgies I love the green boy. A few things, the newspaper does not need to be shreaded. Are they plastic poles/perches you have? You are far better off getting the kids to get some natural perches from somewhere you know they don't spray (look for those land for wildlife signs, my council does not sray in these parked areas). Having plastic poles/perches are not good for their feet. Also try and run the perches from front to back keeping them on both sides so that the birds can fly from one side to the other, they way the get more exercise. Also as krosp said they are adults. Have they been handtamed? If not it will take alot longer to hand tame them but not impossible. If you want them tame look into things like Clicker training. Do either of them have rings on their legs? If so and you can read the ring or at least tell us the colour then we should be able to tell you how old the birds are. Good luck with your new guys, they will bring you alot of fun. Oh also if you are not planning on breeding don't put anything that looks like a breeding box in the cage. As you have a pair they might decide to have eggs and unless you are ready and know what you are doing this is something you want to avoid. I was in a pet shop today and the lady told customer that Budgies sleep in breeding boxes so she HAS to supply them *bangs head against desk* Budgies don't need them to sleep. Any questions just ask great to see someone coming into bird ownership!
  8. A lady i work on projects with called me the other day about her birds who had passed away at the end of last week. All where inside birds so we know the heat did not get them, she took one of the bodies to the vets and he told her that the bird had starved to death. She was shocked the bird had access to food, the same food it had eaten for the last three years what happened??? So we had a talk and I found out that she had bought one of those dehuskers, you pour the used seed through the top husks are blown away remaining seed is left at the bottom. So she had been doing this for about 3 weeks. Dehusk every day add a bit of extra seed every other day so the 8 Budgies allways had food. She also offered them veggies but outside of the celery she has had no luck in converting them to veggie (all are older birds bought in petshops and or given to her). What we worked out is that she puts the seed in, they eat what they like. Dehusks the seed and gives them back the remaining seed. Issue with this is as they don't eat the seeds that have been though the dehusker it's like 8 birds eating a one birds rations of seed every two days. Poor lady is really upset as she worked out that basically she starved her birds to death. Looking at the birds you would not have known they where underweight all where show type or close to show type and unless you picked them up and felt them then you would not know. She did notice that they had gotten quiet over the last week but thought that might have something to do with her keeping the house darker then normal to combat the heat. Anyway, i just thought I would warn people, when you dehusk check what is left you bird might not eat the seeds that are left so basically you are topping up their feed bowl with no food.
  9. okay if you follow the link you will find my plan for a suspended avairy. Now before I send it off and get the final quote from the guy I would love some feedback. The plan is to breed Green Cheeks in this at the moment but later down the track if I want to breed Sunnies or Hahns Macaws I can. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v614/ang...easurements.jpg Any feedback would be great
  10. So the heat wave came and went and I have heard of people losing animals so this is my little post to all the birds I know of flying free. I lost 2 Green Cheeks I know of 120 Canary's 100 Finchs 30 Budgies A pair of Gang Gangs and their three Chicks An African Grey Breeding pair To all the birds and all the other animals and the 30 odd people who have pass on in the heat my prays are with you.
  11. get a snipe account best way to win stuff on e-bay
  12. I had thought about doing that but there is the part of "doing it yourself" I don't like I have found one guy but i have to send him 110 measurements and pictures before he will give me a quote which i think is a good thing
  13. I am going to start looking into that. The guy who offered is a friend and the issue with him is that I have seen his work and it's not that nice of a finish so want someone with a bit of experiese.
  14. It's time like these that I wish i lived up north! My gran gave me some money for my birthday and I was going to use it to pay off some of my car but I figure that was a sucky thing to do so I started looking for Suspended avairys. Now I am getting to the point where I am going to need a bank of say 4 or 5. I have a few restrictions. One being that I only have so much room in my back yard. two being to get into my back yard the whole thing has to come via the house which means it needs to come apart and come through the front door in pieces. So I started looking (money clears on the 9th of Feb so I want to be ready to go) well all the avairy builders are in QLD... I tried to ring a few but the numbers on the website do not work or ring out. I then e-mail then and get no response. I finally started asking people who had pictures of suspended avairys on their site and got told it was this company but they are no longer doing it etc.... I found one guy who would come in and do it all on site but once the avairy was together I could not take it apart and that left me with having to leave it if I ever move out and nope I want something that can come apart so that if I move I can take it with me. I really don't want that much. I want four or five (depending on what size they are) avairys all suspeded joined at the back with a walkway. I have two places I could put them (both would require me to removed trees from my garden but they are all dead anyway wo where is the harm in that!) I want them done so they look nice, one guy offered to do them for me but I know they would look home made and I want that really professional finish look. i want them to be a feature of the garden not a eye sore or just somwhere I keep the birds. I want people to come and see the birds and the whole thing be a really nice enjoyable thing. It's getting depressing, i can't get anyone to give me a price, no one is picking up their phone or answering my e-mails. i am so depressed about this now. I mean I have the money come and take it form my pocket and I can't get anyone intrested. I hate living in Melbourne
  15. *in cheesy actor voice* "Be the fish, feel the fish, I am a fish...."
  16. Thanks guys MB - I only just saw this, yes would be intrest will give you a yell over the next weekend. Or if you let me know what you want we can do a swap at the next meeting. Any photos of your grey boy?
  17. It's funny how somebirds will have never ending issues with item and others will never have. I have that star bell thing and have used it for about 5 years untill it got told and I feared it would break an they might eat bits of plastic so I got rid of it, the same day i got another one and still use it in the avairy and do not have an issue.
  18. Almost makes me want to have kids!
  19. I have heard of Budgies biting finches legs off. Of Ringnecks killing Budgies and Budgies beating up Princess parrots. So I think it depends on the birds. I have send an avairy with Ringnecks and Budgies in it and the person never had an issue however I would never do it.
  20. Thnka guys, put them at the op end of the garage not the best for quarantine but the best I can do in, have hung sheets between then and the other bird (wet sheets to help cool down as the air con is at the other end as well) they seem to have settled fine which is good.
  21. I hang the wet sheets on the outside of the avairy, takes the direct sun off and also as the breeze flows through it cools the air, only issue is the sheets are dry in like 5 mins!
  22. When they go to ground like that you have to start to worry, half of my avairy was like that when I brought them in last night.
  23. I agree with Kaz turf the egg and then reduce her daylight house this will reduce her feeling of sumer and the laying process can be stopped by that. You did nothing wrong. *hugs*
  24. Walking down the the car park I saw a bunch of dead birds around a bowl of water that one of the business had put out for them, people said that there is a bunch in the yarra as well
  25. So they arrived. They came around looking hot and flushed (still over 40 outside ???) Ken and Barbie Then we have the unnamed female who poor girl is going through molt and hates the world Her Hubby General picture's and well so Elmo did not feel left out
