  1. *points upwards* what she said.
  2. Sounds great but my only issue is that if you Borrow a boy for a friends then you still need to do keep them apart for 30 days. But maybe enven hearing him will distract her.
  3. I would be saying Cock as well
  4. If my bird was sick I would take they to the vet down the road from me as they have better opening hours and I trust him with my birds, however for a general check up and wing clip I will go with the cheapest as it's just a check up. My big thing is normally I get home around 6pm and I notice a bird is not well I know that I can call them and run the bird down there within 4 or 5 mins. A few people have PMed me (both on this board and others I have cross posted to) and asked why I would clip my birds wings and why pay for it why not do it myself. The quick reason is that I have to clip his wings while he is in boarding for saftey reason after I get back from overseas I will let them grow back out so he can fly around my study. As for why I do not do it myself, he hates being touched round the head so I don't want to stress him out and it's someone else being mean to him not mum I don't want him to associate with me with this expereince and then for me to nick off for two weeks.
  5. Pet shops are a great place for this info if they sell birds. Burwood Birds and Pets are a good person to call Jock and Ivan know things like this off the bat and they sell alot of large / exotic birds. Mad about Pets up near ferntree gully also sell large birds and know of the regulations. I was very confused when I got Elmo as some said that I did not need a license others said I did, even the DSE would change their mind depending on who I talked to there. I would say that jwancia is right because the DSE does not like it when you sell animals without the correct liceses and they shut the shops down pretty quick.
  6. Not sure I would do it just like that, but I mean send him to birdy heaven as it really did look wrong but after a few days I decided he was getting feed and it did not seem to be causing him pain as far as I could see and there where no other signs of injury or issues so I thought that if it got worse I would have to discover a way to put him out of his misery, I use the phrase as an explain of the outcome not the acutal way I would go about it.
  7. Yeah it's the layer/look of peeling on the beak but at least 50% of my guys have it so i just assumed it was normal.
  8. Harley drinks in front of me but after 8 years I would hope that he does! Blue and flame drink in front of me but again they where pet types inside for a year. Some of the breeders will drink when I put new water in but the general avairy ones I don't see drink.
  9. Hugs all around!
  10. My only issue with this is that he said he started with 2 which means the poor guys have been inbreeding like mad to get to 1700
  11. Have no clue what causes it but I had one that looked like that was thinking about what i should do but figured there was nothing the vet could do and must be a birth defect however could not bring myself to knock him on the head now he is a happy normal looking 5 week old, a little under weight but nothing I am worried about, maybe play it by ear or one of the other more experieced breeders might know.
  12. Marina is worried about a little boy I sold her a while back. She can't post the pictures so she e-mailed them to me and as far as I can tell this is something that normally happens with Budgie beaks however have no idea why or what causes it. Can you take a look and let us know? I am pretty sure it is nothing for her to worry about but we all know what Budgie mothers can be like  and some full size shots cause he is just soooooo dam cute!
  13. that just means that we bug you for pictures!
  14. $28 bucks for a Budgies wing clip is alot however I would be happy to pay that for Elmo as clipping his wings is a two person job with protective gear! Sometimes I think that some vets (like some Drs) take people for a ride with costs and other times I can see the justification. My Dr is in a high priced area and is VERY good so I pay the extra to see him but it is always good to have choices.
  15. I have heard this from other owners (my sisters boyfriends mum who has always had budgies) but cause the others where closer to where I lived I went there however with my ever growing population it might be wise to chase the cheaper vet if they are just as good.
  16. If you want to know who these vets are (they are pretty much the three known bird vets in Melbourne) PM me and I will send the details. I just did not want to be seen quoting their prices incase it cages in the future or I heard wrong or they quoted wrong.
  17. I am sure you do as it's sort of from your area. I am sure most people can work out which vets I am talking about. I normally use vet 1 as they are 5 mins down the road and they do give me a bit of a discount or we work things out for my Budgies but I have decided to try vet 2 and got Elmo (my King Parrot) an app there next week on one of my days off. However I must say I like the way vet 1 handles my birds and also the bird vet at vet three is also really good so will have to see how vet 2 goes. (anyone else confused with my code?)
  18. Oh okay, for some reason I thought you could not put a crested to a crested or maybe that that lut's... I don't think i am ever going to get my head around budgie genetics... maybe I should have stuck to Horses!
  19. I thought you could not breed a crest to a crest as they produce not great off spring. Other then that very pretty birds
  20. I was talking to someone today about the cost of vets and I decided to do a bit of research. I have three bird vets around me and so I rang and asked what a new pet consutation and wing clips would cost, here are the results Vet 1 $60 for consultation $10 for wing clip (but you have to have the consultation) $47 for poo smear $66 for diease test Total - $183 Vet 2 $49.50 For consultation, wingclip, poo smear and crop flush Total $49.50 Vet 3 $49.95 for Consultation $28.00 (approx depending on how the bird behaves) for wing clipp Unknown for extra test she could not tell me and it would depend on the bird Total $77.95 minimum BIG Difference so it pays to shop around (I am lucky I have a car and have the choice) however the cheapest vet is only open from 9 - 5 monday to friday so I can't see them due to work, vet 3 is a good 1/2 hour away and then sometimes you don't end up seeing the vet that has the bird qualifications just others that have experience and they charge extra for weekends and vet one is down the road works late (open till 8pm some nights) and works both sat & sunday at no extra cost. Anyway I just thought you guys might find that intresting.
  21. With the Honey sticks yes some people use Glue to stick them together and this causes nose or cere bleeds in birds (I have one that looks at a honey stick and gets a nose bleed) So I would make your own check and double check the product, most that list themselves as organic I have found work the best or I just make my own not that hard and if you have pet birds I let them play on the bench while I am making it and they clean up the split seed!
  22. I agree but after having an outbreak it's something that I will keep up. I don't like giving my birds drugs is I don't have to so anything that is natural that I can give them that may help I will. Thanks for the extra info.
  23. Lovely birds! Thanks for posting
  24. I have started doing this as well as I have a Lemon tree however they don't seem so keen on the Orange.
  25. My vet said that giving the birds some lemon or lime juice in their water (or a drop in their beak) helps keep mega at bay and helps the bird fight off the infection if they have a mild case. I give my new guys that when they come in and only give other meds if it's a proven case.
