Eastern District Budgie Auction (melbourne)
Roger has been around for a while. he does Greys mostly. Normally he will call me and says he has a cull cage and if i buy through him direct I can get them for around $10 a bird. he seems to have two types of birds. Birds he culls (and some of these are really good but he missed ringing them so they are unrung) and birds he keeps/shows/sells at auction. Getting some of his better culls as a place to start would not be a bad idea if you are starting out.

Oh BL13 we have all done that! On the other note about Roger Watson, if you want to check out his culls he sells to Burwood birds and pets. We can pick up his culls for around $20 - $30 a bird. In fact we purchased the sister of one bird that went for over $300 for $20. Granted she is a little smaller but not by much.

Eastern District Budgie Auction (melbourne)
Hey your wife was she the darker skinned women who bought hot dogs for the kids? and who's kid was outside asking for daddy and you had to walk out at one stage? If so Budgielover13 (carolyn) was sitting behind you and I was the girl in the Korn t-shirt writting numbers down near the front door. Pip was in a red shirt and bidding with number 5. It was a great day!

Eastern District Budgie Auction (melbourne)
It's just an attendence thing, if you are not a member of a club just tell them that you are thinking of joining and apart from Pam trying to convince you to join you are free to come, just head toward the BBQ and tell them you are friends of Pip and G and the will let you in for sure :ohmygod:

When Is It Safe To Allow Your Birds..
I have always been told that one the hair dye has set, which means that when you wash it with shampoo and the bubbles stay white or at least 2 weeks. this is the rule that I have always used and never had an issue

Purchasing A 'winter' Budgie!
I have heard this tale before, the reason that the person told me this was that breeders have fewer clutches in winter therefore the baby will be handled more. That may be the case for small time breeders like myself but larger breeders I don't think will handle the birds any more or less.

Charlie My Quaker
Charlie my resuce Quaker is now 7 weeks old and is learning to fly. We have learnt not to land on the BACK of the book shelf as that means we slide all the way down the back and get stuck and mum has to come and resuce us which is an hour long process (gap is now blocked off) We have also learnt that you do not attempt to land on the pictures hanging on the wall as that means that both you and the picture come crashing down to earth. We are learning however to recall! okay so it's a bit shakey at the moment and normally means he launches himself off his cage flys around the room and they attempts to land on me normally aiming for the face hoping against hope that mum will catch him BEFORE we crash (we have crashed once when I misjudged his speed!). But still I have never had a bird recall on demand before and it's great!

I Need Advice Asap
Kaz - some petstores down here have vets that either come in or are physically attached to a vet surgery. I know of about three in my area

I Need Advice Asap
I had this issue once before, I explained to the pet shop that I was attached and I felt the the bird would be happier to go to the vet with me and could then please set up an appointment and I would take him and they get the bill. I also offered to go to the vet with one of their staff members to make sure I did not put unthing unreasonable on the bill. I would not take a refund for the bird, say to them that you are happy to bring him back and they can keep you updated with his care and that can you please have the number of the vet so that you can call and check up on him and also recieve any information about his care so that if he gets sick again you have a madical history. As soon as you take a refund he is no longer your bird. In the mean time, what do his poops look like and make sure that you keep him warm.

Disgusted With What I Saw!
I agree with what others have said, do it in stages, add a few veggie out of their fridge sort of as an off handed thing and change the sand matting for newspaper.

How Do I Keep My Baby Budgie Warm At Night.
Personally unless you know what the mother died of I would not put him in with other chicks incase he does have something. If the father is still feeding then he should be right. How do you know the father is not keeping him warm at night?

Bird Breeding Mills
Thanks I will do that They are MB and Elly. I visited one, not knowing what it was just that the guy said that he had birds for sale and I could buy in Bulk (should have been my first clue) buy more then 6 birds get a discount it was shocking. Not as bad as some of the vids on you tube but still I felt ill and then came home and had a shower and bleched my clothes before interacting with my birds

The Sale Of Unweaned Birds
Also I side note about handraised. I weighted my King Parrot and looked on line and he was underweight. I took him down to the vet and we ran test, the vet compared him to other king parrots that he has had in over the past year to make sure it was not a seasonal thing etc... nothing he weights about 3 quaters of what the others guys do his same age. More tests and one very worried mum and then finally the vet looked at me and said "he was hand raised right" I told him that he was and we had a look as some reseach and found out that birds that are hand raises vs parent reared normally are smaller in both size and weight. We where comparing Elmo to avairy raised and wild birds and he is smaller and will most likely always be. The vet was so embarassed and has given me some free visit to make up for all the money I have spent. (in his defence Elmo is the first pet King Parrot he has seen through his clinic all other Kings have been avairy birds or wild poor guy)

Need Advice For Moving...
There is a group call http://www.jetpets.com.au/ they can organise a loan cage for you and I have not found them to cost that much more then doing a straight drop off. A friend of mine used them to go from Melbourne to Perth. She picked up the box a few days before hand, gave them all her flight details and dropped the bird off to them. When she got off her flight then she picked him up the other end. She had 3 days to return the box (she ended up moving the bird to his own cage for the car trip and running the box straight back in. Might be worth looking into.
