  2. Thanks guys she is currently at work with me (shhhhh don't tell my boss) so we are tyring to be quiet today, lucky there is only 5 people in, three on my floor and 2 on the other one. She is happy playing with her banana so hopefully she says quiet for the rest of the day.

  6. WEll we had a set back. Ella has a fit today. I took the day off to stay home with her and then I went out to get a coffee and bank a cheque came back said hello to her and then she sor of rolled to one side and started rocking her head back from side to side and her feet twitching and making really strange noises. I grabbed her and drive straight to the vet and tried to hold her so that she did not shake around to much like you do with dogs. Well the vet sore her stright away and gave her anti seziure meds. WE are not sure what caused it and have taken bloods and other samples for testing. We ruled out environmental as I am very bird safe with what I use in my house. We think it might be something as simple as she was mucking around and hit her head and had a fit or it might be a brain wiring thing we are not sure if she will have more down the track basically we don't know squat and will not know again thing untill we get results. We decided that she should come home with me as if she fits over night there would be no one there to help her so going to move her box into my bedroom tonight and will be taking her to work with me tomorrow. Still going to go back nd see the vet on Thursday. Have no clue what is going on that that scares me. On the upside she has put on weight! Now she is in her head box sleeping.

  13. Hey guys an update. Went to the vet and Ella has worms, thrush, bac infection and crop issues. Vet gave her two shots and she is on bactrim for 5 days twice a day. We also have a pretty specific feed route to undertake. We are hot boxing her till next thursday when she has another apptmt with the Dr. Really sad thing was when the vet said that if we had left her another 24/48 hours she would not have made it so glad I pushed for them to fit me in today. We hope we have managed to get meds into her enough that we can save her but the vet said the next 48 hours will be the teller, if we get her past that then she should pull through okay. Will keep you updated. oh she weighed in at 350 when the vet said she should be closer to 450
  14. Oh God I have done it again! A guy rang me to organise for me to pick up three tiels and two budgies as he did not want them anymore (the Budgies will end up for adoption when they are cleared so keep your eye out for that on the for sale section) Anyway while there he brought out his Eckkie Ella, she is so cute but small for her age, not eating and her poo is really the wrong colour. I had a chat to him and said he really needed to take her to the vet. Well he was on the big bird boards and basically got told that an Eckkie was to much to handle andhe should look at giving her to someone that knows what they are doing. So at 10.30pm last night i set out to point cook to go pick her up. His mother insisted that he get his $450 back for her (I think he would have given her to me for free but hey) so I paid just to get the little girl out of the situation, either way $450 is NOTHING for an Eckkie, hand tamed ones down here are going from $800 - $1500 and if she does not tame down enough to stay with me a friend has a male and a large avairy so I know she has a home no matter what. Or as my sister says we can build her an avairy outside. Well last night he said he feed her 40ml (she should be on 52mls per feed) we got another 10mls down her when we got home, but today we struggled to get 15mls down her.... going to ring around the vets and hope my boss lets me duck out for an hour so that I can take her in. She is also coming to work with me today as I know my boss (not my normal boss I am moon lighting on a weekend job) will be cool with this as she is an animal lover. So yeah I got an Eckkie! :grbud:
  15. Don't worry your not the only one to not work something out. I got these boxes off ebay put them up and no one would go into them ???? then one morning after weeks of trying I find one hen who tried to get into it and got stuck! the entry holes too small!
  16. one that the eastern district put on a while ago
  17. Last auction I went to they all sold for more then $400
  18. I think it is, I have a funny feeling I can remember reading or hearing somewhere that they see conditions as being okay to nest in and the females secreats a hormone that aids in egg production. It's not something that can turn on and off at a whim but something that the environment effects. A vet once told us that cronic egg layers do not have the ability to turn off the secreation so they just keep laying as the eggs form. Hmmm I know I have a reference somewhere will have to look it up!
  19. He has settled well, Pip came around last night and well cuddles and scratches and "oh no don't leave me" happened. His vocab is amazing, he was screaming away and I stuck my head in the door and said "Do you mind" and his reply "Sorry" he says hello, what ya doing, tells the dogs off and can sing. He is also trying to pick up new words by the day! I am really hoping to place him in a male family as he was raised by a male and bonded with him. His owner went back to singapore and left him with a female family member who locked him in the laundry so I can see why he thinks we are all evil B***hes!
  20. Oh I missed that! Caulfield birds are great, I know pam and John well and they raise some of the best birds around. In fact the bird that pip lost and was found trying to break into the police station is one of theirs, see they breed smart birds as well as good birds!
  21. I bought a cat trap, If I catch one (on my fourth now) then I call the council and let him know that it's in the cage by my front door (under cover) and they come and pick it up and take it to the RSPCA the guy knows me now and even calls me to confirm that he has taken the cat.
  22. I am not keeping him, he is come through the shelter so trying to find him a new home. He would suit a male owner who has some time to put into him or an avairy but i will try and find a indoor home for him before I look intot he avairy option
  23. Yesterday I picked up a 4 year old corella called Lou Lou, his family could not look after him anymore and he had been banashed to the laundry. At the moment he is scared and doing the agressive scared attitude but I think he will calm down soon enough at the moment he is scared. He has also been on an all pellet diet to introdcing him to the joys of veggies and dried fruit and he found sunflower seeds and fell in love! He is really pretty and really loud it was so sad listening to him cry last night as he was so confused as to where he and what is going on.
  24. Ihave had busy Budgie in with mine, yes they will try and breed but as long a there is no nest boxes in the avairy it will not matter. Only thing is when you go to breed make sure they are away from your hens for a good two weeks to make sure they are clear of any of the Bush budgies sperm
  25. *points upwards* I agree I am still mad about a lut cock that I took in over a year ago they took him and never told me that he would be put down if I had known that at the time then I would have kept him as he was a very pretty bird!
