I think when I bring in a pair that I really want to breed from this might involve a trip to the vets and get them to do it or wait for MB to get good at it and con her into coming over and doing it while I hide in a corner.... :mellow:

okay feeling a little better, none of my cocks have been that agressive towards the hens having gone from one or two birds at a time I now have a bunch (and I blame MB for this) so I am worried that they will all get along.

I hope them getting their thing on would be perfferable to him ripping her head off! I might bring her in and put her in the hospital cage over night so I get some sleep tonight!

okay so I have spent a large % of today budgie watching and I noticed something that I have not seen before and I am freaking out that the might be fighting but then maybe I am just worrying for no reason. I have a Cock and a Hen they are sitting and you can hear the Cock making quiet low pitched noises then he tried to make himself really tall and rushing along the branch towards the Hen and the look like they butt heads and she sticks her chest out and they do this over and over and over again. She does not run away from him, however I moved her off the branch and out of thw way the he started pacing the perch making the same noises and straching the back of his head with his feet and then she moved back on the perch and the whole thing starts again. I worry that he is being mean to her and maybe I should split them out but then starts the whole cage storage cause of quarantine birds so I really need them to get along but maybe it's just me freaking out over nothing. In other news Mozzie is find and now in the aviary and really happy.

I went through this with Harley after I lost Queenie. I took on Blue and it did pick him up. However you have to remember Quarantine to make sure that neather bird catches anything and also make sure you are ready to get a new one as well. Good luck with what you decide it never gets any easier but time does help.

LOL can I still give them squeezing hugs? I have done AI in Horses and Cows before and have seen the issues that come from rushing a stallion or a bull into breeding not pretty. I think sometimes the less people know or think they know the better!

Noramlly I would have not put a bird in the large Avairy that late at night but I had a cage shortage and without putting her in the hospital cage it was the only option left to me. As for the bitting her name is Mozzie for a reason I have never handled her and NOT been bitten and she can bite through most things! She seemed fine when I left for work today. Going to check her again when I get home then turn on all the lights and put her out letting her get use to the environment. I know I stuffed up which made it all the more worse (yes my english is real good! :sad: )

That is why I like my local pet shop. All their kittens and Dogs are de sexed. They do not sell breeding stock but have breeders that they can refer people to. It's one of the reasons their animals as so expensive. One lady told me how she was horrified that a kitten cost just over $200 from this store but the Kitten is desexed and microchipped so really your just paying them back. This is compared to other places that sell kittens for $35.... can anyone say impluse buy?

She seemed happy today when I got up a bit annoyed about being in a cage by herself but hey she was the one that flew into the wall! Will try her in the aviary tonight when I get home from work.

She got called Storm and my two more coming last night turned into 3 dam MB and her cute babies!

Yeah I think she is a Mauve, the breeder says that if I put her with harley who is a pale Blue then i might get violets. I don't know but she is really cute. Thanks my bf did it for me. Oh and Cloud put him in the patio avairy and he flys around and dunks his head in the water which is why he has a flat top in that picture!

lonebudgie I think it comes down to what you have experienced. I take two pet stores. Petstore A has puppies for sale @ $600 - $900 mark Petstore B has puppies for sale @ $800 - $900 mark Petstore A gives you a puppy that has had a health check by a vet and it's first injections, has been de sexed & microchipped, an info sheet, a months worth of food, vet records and 40% off first vet visit to the local vet. Puppies that or older are reduced in price and walked by the staff until they are housed if they miss being housed as a puppy they are fostered out to home and put through training courses and adopted out at a later date. You also need to supply info to the pet store with size of back yard, work hours etc... they do vet their prosective buyers Petstore B gives you a puppy with first injections and health check record done by the manager. Would you stop Petstore A from selling puppies? They offer more then what most breeders would offer you and they do not take puppies from serial breeders eg people breeding dogs just to make a quick buck or puppy farms. Same goes for some birds that are sold via pet stores. I always said I would never get through a pet store but I have done that. I agree with how Ivan breeds cares for and sells him birds. He is happy to take on excess stock and has taken sick birds off people or done change overs when people have been sold the wrong type of bird. his staff are pretty stable and are trained in looking after the animals. One girl has a badge that says "I know nothing about birds please don't ask me ask him..." cause she does not and she does not sell or help people purchase birds. Ask her about a rabbit and she is great! Some people have great experenses dealing with pet stores some have terriable ones.

That was the plan, hopefully she can get an idea on the side before she take it on! She seems happy enough now.

I think this was the issue she has always been in small cages and then my Patio cage then the breeding cage and now a MASSIVE aviary I think she just flipped and didn't get it. Hopefully she can adjust if she is okay tomorrow.

Yes my little Mozzie gave me a heart attack and reduced me to tears in the last half an hour. She was inside with Harley and I noticed that she has taken to beating him up so I decided that was it she was going to have to go into the avairy. I catch her, get bitten, release her into the aviary and she flys straight into the back wall and drops like a log onto the ground. I freak out and fear that she has broken her neck or something. I go down to get and get her and she is breathing but just limp in my hands does not even try and bite me Rush her inside put her in the makeshift hospital cage (got to get a better one) give her a heat lamp and wait.... and wait.... and call the vets after hours... and wait... and it seemed like 4 hours but infact is like 20 mins. Then like a light bulb she sits up and is chirping away and trying to escape as if nothing happened..... So I figure that I will leave her for tonight if she still seems happy tomorrow then I will try her again in the aviary, have no clue what happened hopefully she was only stunned. My heart is still racing a bit and I feel sick... someone remind me why I have birds again????
