  1. Good luck and yes bed would be a good place for you right now! *hugs*
  2. I guess I am jsut to picky! At the moment dad and I are talking a small garden shed which we will then take one wall off and build out a flight area. I found one I liked but when i went and looked at it, it was smaller then she said so I would not have put more the 6 birds in it.

Hi and welcome, had a look at the pictures (and other members feel free to say i am wrong) but he/she looks really young. Is he eating seed okay? Some other general things, what are the perches like in his cage, all the pictures you have are on him on the ground, also try some fresh gum leaves mine love them and it is good for them. Do you know of a good vet near you? Is that his cage? To me it looks on the small side, but it sounds like he spend a lot of time out of the cage is as a night cage its fine. Make sure you go read the FAQ section it's great and will give you lots of heads up on alot of things. Otherwise enjoy your new pet. Also side note try not to use short suts in typing like 2 for to as it makes it hard to read your post
  4. You so don't know my friends! You know my patio cage right, well it took them 6 hours and a case of beer before I gave up and told them to go home and I put it together! I would love a slab but thinking cost wise it is going to have to be pavers.
  5. Yeah i know the guy from lancefield we are looking at $1300 installed cause it has to come in kit form and then he has to put it together.... hmmmm I am just picky i know what I want and can't afford it or build it
  6. see this is my issue I think that is ugly, I have also spoken to the person with it and there are a few rust issues, I have a bunnings down the road and I do check there on a regular base. I am really thinking of buying a shed and dad and i converting it.
  7. okay I now have 6 birds and planning on breeding a few more. My issue is that I know that I want to have three 'stations' you could call it. 1) the breeding cage - which I have and is set up, I will only breed one pair at a time 2) the patio cage (will hold 6) - which Harley will most likey stay in cause he can't fly and young birds will go in cause he is good about eating his vegtables and I can handle the young ones before I re house or move them to the aviary 3) the outside aviary - this is where I run into issues. I want room to have like 20 odd birds but most likey will only have like 10 or 12 max in there. all the aviarys i have found are starting to run into the $2000 mark is there someone in melbourne who makes them or can convert sheds into aviaires? Anyone on the board want to build me one or have an idea? i do regular checks of ebay etc... but still can't find one that will give me enough room and is not ugly. Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.
  8. A friend of mine spent three years on the rd with her teil and three budgies. She attached their cage to a bench in the caravan so it would not go anywhere or on really hot or cold days the birds came into the car with her never had an issue.
  9. I know you told me that but this weekend was my worming weekend so they got another dose, one of the things I do is try an get new birds on or very close to the date that I do all prevenative measures that way they are in the rotation. The really funny thing is I have already got three of the babies (that are yet to be concieved) sold! A few friends on LJ took one look at Fiji and want one of him.... told them that the chicks might not be like him but they asked to be put on a list for then they do end up with chicks! Here is hoping that when they get access to the breeding box in a few weeks that they take a liking to each other!
  10. Thanks guys melbournebudgies really has some nice birds! The male we are calling Fiji the female is either going to be princess or Drama Queen (DQ for short) as she is really kicking up a storm over beiong moved from her avairy. Really need a big new avairy so going to have to hunt out one in the next few weeks.
  11. I know she is sweet, I am thinking of calling the boy Fiji cause all my boys are named after what they come home in, Harley come to my on a Harley motorbike, Blue came wrapped in a blue jumper Fiji cause they came in a Fiji water box. The girls always get their name from their appearance or attitude, Mozzie cause she bites like there is no tomorrow and it hurts like ***, Flame cause of her yellow body and red eyes.... Hmmmm oh well off to buy some more budgie stuff now!
  12. melbournebudgies has some really nice birds and today I went and picked up two, I so could have fallen in love with all them them and brought them all home! My two are such cute little guys. The little boy did not want to hop off my finger while the girl protested loudly as to the fact that she had been taken from her aviary and stuffed in a box! Settled them into Qarra together as they came out of the same avairy. Sorry the following pictures are not better but I want them to settle in a bit and my guys are all excited about they fact that they can hear the new birds but can't work out where they are! I need names so any help would be great. Also my need for an avairy is now high up there so if anyone sees a cheap one floating around or has one in the Melbourne area then let me know, my biggest issues is that it will have to come apart to fit through a standard door. My other guys hanging out (Mozzie refused to get in the shot!) Random but my puppies where feeling left out
  13. LOL that's mu cage but in white, I have the instructions for that but they might as well be in Japanese... in fact they might be! Looks great however
  14. Oh I might go to this. Have to find out where the uni is
  15. Congrats!

Did you guys see him talking about the monsters in the closet?
  17. huh? Sorry I have no clue what you are talking about what is the differnce between french moult and a normal budgie moulting? I know with Blue on average when he gets them he gets a crop of about 4 - 10 on his head, since he has a habbit of breaking them off and then one of us coming home and a run to the vets and an expensive weekend as we see them we pull them out and put "blood stop" powder (sorry don't know the true medical term) on the area. Blue is use to it and I think they annoy him as he gets a bit cuddley after we pull them out and does not seem to mind. We have done it about 3 times now (and I only got him in July 2007) first time there was only three or so and the vet talked me through the process on the phone the second time there was a rush to the vet he pulled three and then over the next week my sister & I pulled another 2 the last time we got I think 5 over a course of 3 or 4 days, no mess no fuss but we do go see the vet to get a vit A shot as it seems to perk him up.
  18. KAZ does that help reduce blood feathers? Blue aways has a hard time with Molt, he greats stressed and a few times I have had to remove him from the cage and go in the hospital cage as he becomes unresponsive. He also gets masses of bloodfeathers which I HAVE to pull the larger one as he has a habbit of breaking them off and bleeding everyhere and since I work away from the house I am terrified of him bleeding out while I am not home to save him. Harley gets lots of pin feathers and other girls are normally okay. I have in the past gotten Vit A shots for Blue to help him thought his period, a stressfull and expensive option so any alternative would be great.
  19. I know how do they do that? it's just one of those times I want a spy cam on my bords 24/7, normally they are pretty boring just doing their thing and then this, I was so shocked. Mozzies egg hitting Harley was one thing but then Flame to drop one as well just made me think something really werid is going on!
  20. So I am changing the water over for my babies and they are all watching me as I do the normal tell them about my day while they go "Shut up Mum and hand over the millet seed" Mozzie is sitting on the top perch, Harley and Blue are below her and Flame is on the other side of the cage when Mozzie lays an egg... poor Harley got it right on his head and it cracked open and covered him with all the gooey (yes that is a very scientific word I know) stuff. Funny thing was the reactions Harley just straightened up and looked up and started squawking. Blue side stepped along the perch away from Harley as if to say, "don't come near me with that **** on you?" Mozzie is looking under herself at Harley as if to say, "Where did that come from?" Flame (who is on the other side might I add) that was flipping out flapping her wings and then BANG she lays an egg. *scratches head* I know that Mozzie had been trying to nest in the feeding trays so I had changed things around to make her think there was nowhere to lay the eggs, had NO CLUE that Flame was even sexually active (don't I so sound like the parent of a teenage child!) So I clean up the mess while I was doing that Harley was chasing my hands around the cage and rubbing his head on me, so I take him inside and give him a bath (something that normally involves me and my sister and VERY large gloves) and he was happy to take it, now he is back in his cage and every time Mozzie comes near him he chases her off. It was a strange series of events!
  21. (Laughing out loud) that bird is so cute however it does look like someone threw up paint on him!
  22. Hey, millet seed and oats are what I gave my old man to put the weight on him, he loves his oats so much that when I put them in the cage with him he clambers all over me to get to them. Also set the cage up so he does not need to fly anywhere he can hop, walk or shimmy all the way around the cage which equal less exercise and more time for fattening up! (he is eight by the way and shares his cage with three younger birds all under a year and loves bossing them around) As for seed bells they can cause nose/cere bleeds due to the glue, Flame gets them. I use to use trill as well for the "no glue" sticker but she starts bleeding after eating them so I make my own now, there are a few recipes on the board as to how to make them and really not that hard and a *** of a lot cheaper. You can also put veggie in the sticks/bells that you make which is good for the birds. I was told to add pellets to Harleys diet as he was getting on in year but he will not have anything to do with pellets so I don't feed them. Hope this helps, by the way your babies are very cute
  23. Thanks I get that, I figure my guys are pretty much fine but I would love to avoid a trip to the vets every time Blue goes through molt and thought the Molting agent might help. Will have a chat to my vet about it.
  24. Whooo argh now I feel like my birds are seriously under vitimized (sp?? not even sure that's a word but will roll with it) Thanks for this, can you tell me do they just get them all or is there a plan, eg on Mondays their water gets this..... even if you add them to water. My guys pretty much get mixed veg and fruit, seeds and wormer in their water every two months. I worry about my guys getting enough, i know that Blue gets really bad blood feathers during molt and gets vit A shots to help with feather production maybe a suppliment all year round would help? I think I am going to have to check out vetfarm thanks for this
  25. To add to this I was at a breeders once who had put iron perches in, the birds flew over head the older ones who knew what was going on would come into the perch on and gab and flap like mad before settling down, the newer birds would grab the perch and not be able to get a good grip and litteraly flip right around or fall off all together. I know that I would not use them also think how cold they would be in winter.
