  1. So if you are one of the few people that have not heard I am FINALLY getting my aviary this is what i am getting So my set up will be two inside breeding cages (which at the moment have my older birds in them as they winter inside with the heater) One Patio Cage which at the moment has the other birds in it but will be used for the young or a quarra cage depending on my needs and then the aviary. today we cleared the space the for the aviary to go in. I FINALLY got my paper work from the council saying that it could go in (that was close) they guy came and inspected the area we had to change out plans as it was going to go with one long side against the fence and the back short side against the tree now it is going next to the tree with the short side against the fence. The good thing about this is that there is a concrete runner for the garden which we will but it up against which would work well. For the time being it will be a dirt floor but Dad and I will be laying a slab later in the year (I had 19 staples removed from my stomach today so we figure getting it up and running will be enough slab can come later) Also I have two VERY good rat dogs who patrol the back yard so rats and mice be warned! I really wish I could have taken photos of how it looked before cause that was about 4 hours of us clearing stuff to make room. Then it rained so I went shopping for stuff for the aviay, got a really good round two rope perch for $10 and a rope and wood swing for $7 I also got a water bottle thing to hang from the roof but now am worried cause if Lime is a french molt and Harley can't fly well I am going to have to re think the water thing. I am so lucky that my Dad comes down the helps me with these type of things at 80 and legally blind he is still the best person I know for getting stuff like this done! Blind man with power tool! Will post progress pics of what happens tomorrow. Oh and MB you know that box to dropped off today? Well Dad liked it so much that he is thinking of making me some as he feels that they would be better for me to transport my budgies in then my cage! yes my 8 budgies and me going down to the vets for their yearly check up with two digs in toe! More picture's tomorrow I promise, Oh and if anyone has any ideas then please let me know along the way.
  2. I vacum put the vacum away come back in and this..... I know Harley does it just to annoy me! He was sitting in his feed bowl looking at me as if to say "what, I didn't do anything!"
  3. Huh that must be why... In some of Ivans big aviarys he has got aviary wire in the sheltered corners could not work out why but there are always budgies hanging onto it so maybe that is why he put it there will have to ask him.
  4. I know someone else how has done that she opens the roof as as side door for easy acess to the birds but the small front door she had to wire shut cause they learnt to side it open! **Liv** use the cage you showed for my winter holiday / inside / breeding cages for my pairs or my older birds in winter. I got them for $20 second hand from my local breeder/pet shop owner and also go the stand for free after I took some birds off his hands. I love them and think they are great only issue is most sell them with poles running left to right not front to back for me not an issue cause the nesting boxes are on the bars but does cut down the flight space for the birds. My only issue is that you can't remove the wire bottom and alot of my older birds who do not fly so well like to sit on the bottom so I have to put paper down on it and then yank it in and out through the front but they do work great if you can get them for a bargin.
  5. Dad says to use and Anglegrinder to cut the shed up then bolt the shed to the wood not the otherway around using Tec Screws. Also to ensure no holes stable the wire onto the wood using a staple gun (I have one of these if you want to borrow) and then place another piece of wood over the join so that it can't come odd. he also said that you would use the wood glue nails and then bot it on to make sure it is 100% tight. I can have a chat with you when i see you tomorrow.
  6. That is shocking. As much as I like rats as pets I don't like them when they do things like this!
  7. I know I look at Harley some times and can't work out how he got into the position! Sometimes I am worried that he is stuck but it's not to be!
  8. yes I am so not allwed to look at it! Found out there is no restirction for bird numbers in my sire... oh no!
  9. I must admit I do like his birds and the birds he gets in and keeps. To think his pet shop started cause he breed budgies and Jock the other owner breeds finches and they needed to sell the excess stock At the moment she is sitting on the peg into the breeding box I think she had given up tonight. it might just be easier to let them have at it and see what happens she has been waiting two years to try and have some babies!
  10. I blocked the breeding box up and she has spent most of the afternoon trying to brake into it Thinking I am going to remove it for a few weeks but just need to work out how to plug the hole it leaves behind! They are so cute I just love them If Lime ends up being a French Molt bird (and I would take Kaz's word for it) I will have to rethink the aviary a bit but then again Harley can't fly very well either so there was always going to be lots of ladders and stuff and also gliding room then again maybe I just will keep them inside and let them just have one another for a while... DAM i use to be a cold hearted *insert rule word*
  11. I am not allowed anymore birds so i would not be in on that nope not at all... just like I am not on the waiting list for Ozzies offspring@ Who do I make the Cheque out to?
  12. I have not had the budgies inside since around the start of the year so it's strange sitting here in my study with birds right there One thing I forgot was how Harley sleeps, he tried to get side on to the bars, tucks his head back and pushes his chest against the bars, does that make sense? it looks really weird. Mozzie on the other hand leans her head down and looks like she is going to fall off the perch I forgot how fun they can be just to watch I have been sitting here staring at them for a while and just loving having them back inside. Also I can't believe the difference it has made to Harley he is really liking it and there is a heat vent/duc that is half closed that is under the frame for the cages so they are in one of the warmest parts of the room (still one of the coldest parts of the house) and he has been preening all day, he has been singing and flapping around. I let him out in the study while I set up the stand and the space for the cage and he was flapping around and sitting on my head and singing and then fell asleep on my keyboard!
  13. I like playing it up loud and my boy Harley sits there and tries to talk back only issue is that he can't say the same phrases... he did sing a few lines of the Buffy theme tune today after I played it for him. he has not done that in ages so going to see if I can get that on camera!
  14. If you hit any issues let me know and I can always get my parents to pick it up and bring it down they are down about once a week
  15. Stumbled on this and it got me thinking we so need to get a group of melbourne people together that want Kaz's babies.. i mean birds and just get her to ship us an aviary! Weird how different places have different rules when i was in Europe I got on a flight and the guy across from me had this HUGE Blue bird in a cage sitting in the seat next to him. He had paid for this bird to fly bisness class with him and no on batted an eyelid!
  16. Dude my parents are from Kyneton you should have told me and they could have picked it up on the way down today
  17. I took mine on the train from melbourne to Kyneton. I had a custom cover that I made for the travel cage so no one could see in and Harley was really quiet so no one questioned it but that was a few years ago.
  18. That is my patio cage, if you are down near springvale. Springvale birds and pets on Springvale rd always has them in stock for around the $300 - $400 mark Otherwise there is a thread on good vs bad cages that I think Kaz started that has some examples to help you out. These are always on sale but the bar spacing is 1.2 cm so might not be close enough I stuck at letting distances http://cgi.ebay.com.au/3-level-145-cm-Ferr...1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. Dude even better!
  20. Yeah they are, I have been calling them Lemon and Lime for about 6 months now cause I would see them everytime I went to Ivans so I think it is going to stick . Oh I know she is not young, She is also the type of bird that would nest on the floor of her cage and has been producing eggs. The Last lot that Ivan took off her had chicks in them so they are still getting something right. How did you know he is a french Moult bird? *tilts head to side* okay going to have to go research that make sure he has everything he needs. As I said it was a pitty buy (not that Ivan charged me for them so they where more a pitty adopt) more then anything, I know I should not have but they are in love so I figure that they can live the rest of their lives out in a nice happy home. If they breed they breed if they don't they will always be together and.... oh god I am such a romantic at heart! Hmmmm will ask might be the case. I know alot of his yellow/lutino birds came from this breeder so maybe. Again i know he has had this pair for at least the last two years.
  21. Cool I like those they are simple and easy and great to house just a few. You are always finding the bargins.
  22. That's it I am done this is the last of the birds I swear..... Yeah I know I don't believe me either. So here are my two new ones that I picked up today. Meet Lemon (she has an red leg ring anyone know what year that is, it's hard to read) Meet Lime (he has an orange leg ring again hard to read) Sorry for the crappy pictures but don't want to stress them out to much. I know that they are older birds but I really don't care. It was a bit of a pitty buy and Ivan kept telling me I should pair her up with a better cock but they are my cute little old couple. My sister says I should call them granny and grandpa but they might get a complex! And a refresh on my other guys so they do not feel left out. DQ (short for Drama Queen) and Fiji And the rest of the guys are in my sig. Aviary coming on Saturday morning with six other birds that I will not be keeping! Ivan my local breeder gave me a breeding cage stand that fits my cages on so that I can have a few pairs inside at anyone time. Mostly it will be the older birds over winter and then if I decide to breed come spring. So that's it that's me done... my mother is so going to kill me and Dad can't understand why I don't have more blue budgies!

On my travel cage I link a large belt right around it from top to bottom that way there is still something holding it on. But yes alot of the cages have handles but really they should never be carried by the.
  24. see it was suppose to be! he was waiting for you all this time! Ivan says when you get chicks out of him he wants pictures to put up on his wall of fame
