Breeding Black Budgies
Honey I think someone beat you to it. Anthracite The anthracite budgie has a black (or very, very dark grey) body color. All other markings on the budgie are normal, except for the cheek patches, which are the same black as the body color. This variety is very new and was first established in Germany. This variety has been shown to be genetically semi-dominant. A single anthracite factor produces a darkening effect extremely similar to a single dark factor (producing cobalt). A budgie that is double-factor anthracite appears as the true anthracite with the black body color. Basic Genetics: Normal - recessive Anthracite - semi-dominant Taken from - http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html However I now REALLY want to breed these! I think I have fallen in LOVE

Harley's Patches are very similar to Storms. Lime - huh okay just had a good look at him and compared to Mozzie really does have a different body color that's now I know what to look for in the difference between these two mutations Cloud - Yes he has spangle wings Really but everyone has told me recessive pied cobalt just when i thought I had worked it out.... FYI the above shots are a good six months old, his Blue has come through a bit more on his belly now

Winds In Melboure
okay so the winds started here, talking to MB trying not to worry. Checked on my guys a few times they seemed okay. Then went out and almost got stabbed my a flying stake! So I called to my sister and we braved the winds armed with a net and a pillow case and got the guys out of the aviary and into the patio cage, I had to make a choice break quarantine with some birds I am 99% sure are healthy or risk the guys in the aviary cause I am out of room and cages so I decided to break quarantine (Kaz you can beat me up later  ) So I now have one VERY full cage in the kitchen and the noise level is through the roof! This has stirred up the guys in the study that can hear them and Sky in her isolation. I went back out to tie the aviary down and every time a gust came the whole thing shook, so going to have to find a better way to affix it to the ground until the slab goes in. Just thought you might like some pictures Top Perch Flame & Cloud L to R Blue (on the wire) Boof, DQ, Fiji, Pretty Somehow Mozzie got a perch to herself Jail house shot This did help me solve one question, I decided that no matter what if I can I will keep the patio cage cause it is good for situations like this.

Getting Water Based Meds Into Birds
Thanks, at the moment she is on a seed only diet. Waiting for the poop test to come back. When the vet calls I might ask her what she thinks I should do I just want her to get better and I hate not having control over it.

Breeding Black Budgies
Hey spoke to Ivan he said he thinks he might have a grey hen show type that has a few black spots on her belly but she only came in about two days ago and so he has not had time to have a good look and it's to dark now to go have a good look but will get back to me tomorrow.

Sparrow Problem
A good way to find gaps is at night get someone with a torch either on the inside or the outside and sline it along the joins and edges if there is a gap you should be able to see the light come through the gap that is how Dad taught me to check my avairy and I found a few holes that where patched before my guys went in.

Getting Water Based Meds Into Birds
See this annoys me this is what the first vet told me and said to keep her off water based veggies. However the second vet said that even if I just give her seed then she still may not drink. I am soooooo confused.

Getting Water Based Meds Into Birds
okay I found out that some birds can go for six weeks without drinking. Since I have been told to medicate Sky's water this worries me cause I have not seen her drink the whole time I have had her so I thought that I might be able to "force" medicate her. I had a hunt around the net and here and the two ways I can see to do it are to get an eye dropper and try and get some in her mouth and hope it goes down or inject it into her crop like you would crop feed a young bird/sick bird I have issues with the whole crop feeding, something I know I am going to have to get over but untill I NEED to do it I just don't think I can bring myself to do it. So was wondering what are peoples opinions on using the eye drop method? I have to catch her once a day anyway and clean her vent cause I think all the poo sticking to it has caused the feather loss and redness and I noticed that since I cleaned it last night and again this morning it looks better. Anyway suggestions opinions would be great

Sky's Vent
Yeah that is where I am at. At the end of the day the vet said that the treatment might stay the same anyway so I put her through all this stress for nothing... I think I am going to see how we go. My other issue is that Budgies can go 6 weeks without drinking So I might get an eye dropper and each day when I clean her vent i might drop a bit of meds in her mouth to make sure she is drinking cause if she is not then giving her the meds is useless.

Sky's Vent
Thanks I think i will just have to give her time and hope she comes through. I mean, I could run the test which may not work due to the meds she is already on, I could take her off the meds to get her sick so that the test would work... argh i think not! Or I could just give her the meds and hope for the best which is what I think I will have to do.
-
Sky's Vent
Well thanks for nothing! $102 to be told, you should spend $500 to do all these test which most likey will not work cause she has been on meds for the last few days. As for her Crop... "Yes it does seem large but I guess she will clear it in a few day" As for her vent... which I told her about, she had a quick look and went "yes it is very messy" I asked her about the missing feathers and nothing! She just ignored it and seemed upset cause I was not prepared to lay out $500 for her to run a bunch of test which will probley come back clear cause of the drugs she already has in her system. :budgiedance: That really was a waste of time and money and I am no better off and neither is Sky.

Colony Breeding.
The only thing I can help you with is the seed growing. You can grow it but don't just go down to your local store and plant it and expect it to grow. as much budgie seed comes in from overseas and is hit with steam I think so it kills the seed. You would have to go to a plant shop and see if you can get it from there. Other then that I will leave the rest to the other guys.

Sky's Vent
I have just given up, I decided that I am going to bite the bullet and take her to the vet down the road from me, she is very $$$ but suppose to be one of the best in the state. Don't get me wrong I like my vet but there is one guy who is an aviarin vet and the the rest are just trained on the job to be avairan vets if that makes sense. So I booked an app with this vet tonight and really want to get some answers and hopefully a plan to move forward cause I am giving myself stomach ulcers worrying over this little girl and I could be barking up the wrong tree.

Sky's Vent
4th picture down under the blood poop it is sort of like that and LOTS of it! She has been to the vet, nope ni lump just inflamed and red. I have not given her wormer but she has had ivimetin (sp?) for mites as she has them. She is on other meds that go in the water from the vet so can't add worming meds in with them. I have not seen her scratch herself on the perches however she as large flatish perches as she could not perch on the smaller ones after she had her feet done. Hmmm I have been looking this up and there are a few other people who has said this so going to talk to the vet when my boss leaves and hope that this is the answer.
