Gunky Budgie
Personally i would wash him with warm water to help clear the gunk and then dry him off in a warm room. If you have a hair dryer that has a really low setting I know mine like it but just make sure that you are not to close to them as and always go with the feathers make sure he is warm tonight as well even after you think he is dry

When You're Down They Do Something So Cute
she busted through the block on the box a few days ago and then shreded the cardboard so I removed it and put wood shaving in there. I figure she did all that work she is determined to have a baby so she can have one or two so the breeding box is there now she is pushing for sex but I think Lime is scared of being a dad!

When You're Down They Do Something So Cute
okay so a bit down today and then Lemon and Lime come to my resuce.... Lemon is trying to get Lime to breed with her so she is rubbing him and trying to push herself under him and he will not have a bar of it and is yelling at her So she went and was all "I am not talking to you" in the corner of the cage so he goes and gets some food and tries to feed her and she will not take it and then finally gives in there are resting their heads together beak to beak sort of like how a couple hug when they are both making up with the other person and saying sorry..... It is so super cute... this was why I had to get the pair cause they are just to cute together and so bonded that it would have been a shame to split them up! It so cute I think I am going to cry but in a good way.... I so need to go to bed.

Having A Bad Bird Day
Thanks guys....Masie I might take you up on the rant about the like hen that I got today. At the moment I want to see if I can find an owner before I tell everyone the details cause if I was her owner I would like to know first, however from what I can gather she would have been lost around a month ago so i will give it a week and see where I get. MB I am so going to have to bake you a budgie shaped cake! (and yes I can do them, not very well but I can do them)

Having A Bad Bird Day
okay Mods if this needs to be moved then please do so not really sure where it was suppose to go as it is about budgies but is also part rant. Today has been a really bad bird day. I found out I was out of Calcium that you add to the water for the birds so I thought I would pop out at lunch and go to the pet store that I drive past near work. I get there and am blinded by the bright light but it looked really clean. I go down to look at the birds as no one is manning the front desk and I hear the shop assistant tell this girl that any bird can be tamed it really is a very quick process... she then gets this little green girl out of the cage (using a glove might I add) and clip one of her wings before standing her on the top of a cage and saying "See all tame." The young women decides that she is going to take the little green girl and the poor bird gets shoved in a box and taken to the front where the shop assistant goes around a grabs stuff from the shelves. I was pleased to see that she did get her a nice long cage but the **** she started putting in it worried me. For one "Breeding-Aid" this was going to be an only bird??? I really started to feel sick and I wanted to say something but worried about looking like an idiot. When the sales assistant rang up the total at just over $1000 I finally decided that I had to do something. I stepped in and told the lady that 1) the bird was not tame it just had it's wings clipped and not very well might I add. 2) I was pretty sure it was not a baby and that if it was in fact an older bird to get it tame will be a VERY hard job. 3) She did not need half the **** that was in the cage in fact she could get the same set up without the **** for about $100 is she shopped around. (The cage they gave her was the flight/breeding wire cages that a few of us have) At this point they owner comes out and the sales assistant is asking me to leave. The poor girl looks so stressed and you could see that she really was having second thoughts about getting the bird. The Manger is this very slick looking guy who has this poor huge red bird on his shoulder at which point the bird keels over and falls to the ground with a sick *thud* the poor guy is still alive but the young lady fled and I got shoved out the door. Add to that I ended up getting a lost bird but the story of how it got to me is not good and makes me feel sick, really this was one of the most… argh I am so mad, I am still very worked up about this poor bird! Poor MB got my ranting phone call at about 6pm today. I get home to find the house in an uproar, my sister was trying to help and moved Storms cage into a room to change it away from the dogs and she got out and fell behind the book shelf, we could hear her moving but the only want to get to her was to take all the book off the shelf and move the entire thing.... Then to top it off I go to change the water in the aviary and I thought oh aren’t they being nice coming and saying hi and nope all my little babies came over and pooped on me! Brand new top to. Then the vacuum blew up while I was cleaning under the breeding/winter cages and poor guys got grabbed and taken out of the room wrapped in my jumper as when I say the vacuum cleaner blew up it literally blew up and there was flumes and smoke and a small fire, it was quicker to latterly reach into the cages and grab the birds then attempt to move the cages… something they are all very unhappy with me about now. My luck held a little and the carpet survived but I have had to move the cages as the smell in the study worries me so they are all out in the other room right now expressing their annoyance about being moved. I am now officially out of cages so going to have to try and buy another one tomorrow as I can't keep the found bird in the little cage for to long but I do need to Quarantine her.... See it is just not my day, someone remind me why I have birds again....And now my camera has run out of batteries... I think I am going to go to bed now

Bird Room/breeding Room?
Baby steps are a good Idea. My Issue is that I could spend A lot of money converting the garage and then decide that I really don't want to breed budgies after all. I have the bug now but untill it has been around a few years I am going to take it slow. I might see about setting up some more breeding cages in a small outside sheet and just keeping the indoor cages for the older birds during winter. ETA - Sweet kid LOVE the prision PJs.

Bird Room/breeding Room?
Liv looks like a great start! I want one! I want to convert my garage when I get to the point of having more then two pairs my only issu is natural light I am thinking I am going to have toput a window in the back door. My other theory is to convince my sister to let me convert 1/2 of it into a gym/living room and the other half to a breeding room.... maybe I should just ask for a shed instead! :budgiedance:

An Important Petition
Kind of hard to make an informed choice when you are getting 100% different information from different sources. I made my choice based off the information that I had at the time, now I will have to rethink things and find out more as to how these animals are breed, but that is just me. having said that thanks for the info Kaz

I don't mind putting two animals in a cage or helping them breed as long as part P goes into part V I don't like putting things in a dish and mixing them up. Even to the extent of taking the same spieces and doing that (and please don't get upset at me cause I understand that alot of humans go thourhg IVF and I know the struggles and the heart ache so I am excluding them from this discussion) Most farm animals came about by selective breeding way before AI was invented. I grew up on a farm I get why we did it I am happy for people to continue to do it. I can see we are going to have to agree to disagree.

An Important Petition
Derek I agree that it's not that differnent however bringing in a bird is a little different then bringing in a cat. I know that I have to do more reading on this subject however not sure why people are so up for things like this. It's like the Liger tell me why the world needed that? If it came about on it's own then fine but to force breed these animals is what I disagree with. There has been no cases for Lions and Tigers breeding in the wild and producing viable offspring it's done in the lab which scares me. As far as I know the same goes for these cat and if you have any proof that it was a more natural process them I am open to reading about it but from what I have read they are another expamle of humans trying to breed something that should not exist and maybe there is a reason for that... That is just my personal opinion.

An Important Petition
From what I had heard and read nothing was said about being neutred or that we currently had cats like this in Australia. I have issues with how cats are treated in this country and the idea of adding more cats when we have 100s that are in need of a good home annoys me. If we could breed them from our existing population then I do not have such an issue but importing cats to get bigger animals worries me. Some people will be anti it, some people will be for it and some people will not care. I am against importing any animal into the country because I personally think we are opening our selves up for issues that we have not really thought through. We can plan and cover all the bases but at the end of the day we can not account for or plan for all the possible outcomes as we can't even imagine half of them!
