Fatty Can't Fly
She seems much better today, flew down to get the fresh seed would have made a better landing if she had not landed onto of Angel! She also fly/hops from perch to perch now something she did not do a few days ago so I think it's working. My only issue is Mozzie (one of my older pet types) who hates me landed on my hands today and checked them out, checked out what I have to feed them, bit me and flew off. I don't think she is liking the no oats no millet part of the diet that the entire avairy is on for a week!

They sent them to me but they are screw not the other type so I can't use them! Then they sent someone around to sit down and have a chat to me about saving money on my energy bill and keep e-mailing me and grrrrrrr not happy!

So will keep up with the Cider untill the start of next week and re asses the situation. Thanks for all your ideas and hints and support guys

New Breeding Set-up
I think bigger is okay as long as it is not to big. You based it off daz's designs right? Or was that someone else? Looks good otherwise!

When To Count From?
Thanks Kaz will wait and see what happens. I really want to Candle Storms eggs as Harley is older and the eggs may be clear that way I can move a newly hatched chick from Flame with Egg shell and let Harley and Storm bring them up so that flame does not have to many, I am worried about the stress it might put her under one cause it is her first time and two cause she has had health issues in the past. I found a PINNED post about candling eggs sorry I did look but just did not see it, gives a link to a site with pictures so will have to try that when I get a chance. Thanks will keep you updated.

When To Count From?
I know that it is around 18 days from the time on incubation, but most hens don't start to incubate till they have laid all their eggs. Now Flame started from day one. I got my first egg on the 8th which and since she has been sitting on it and the 5 more that followed from day one puts the first egg to hatch around the 26/27th. However today I was checking and it looks like she is going to lay another eg So do I still count fromthe date she started incuabating the first egg and excpet chicks every few days after that or do I start counting from this egg that she is about to lay? Also if she ends up with 7 eggs should I move some of them across to Storm who has only had 4? just to make sure Flame is not overworked or should I wait for the chicks to hatch and then see about distribution if needed? Also can someone point me to a site or something around here that shows you how to candle eggs? I thought I knew what I was doing but now I have started to second guess myself. Thanks it does not help that I fear that they will all start hatching and I am away this weekend!

Fatty Can't Fly
The only reson I have it set up as such norm is cause I have two birds that don't fly that well, not cause they are fat but because of other issues, and I don't spoil them I just over love them there is a difference!

Advice Needed

Fatty Can't Fly
I am the same Kaz I have a massive log branch thing that runs from the feed dishes up to the other end of the avairy and then a complete network of branches to get up to the perching rails and the "top perch" I was thinking of Harley & Lime (who are yet to go into the avairy) when I set this up but glad I did from the get go as some of the English types that come out of Quaratine are a little on the pudgy side so going to change the mix up so that they get less oats and more veggies!

Advice Needed
okay looked up the bill they list a bunch of test names and and action list (which I am going to say it what they did) Blood test x 4, blood slide x 6, waste scrapping x 2, waste dye lot x 1, crop sample x 3, intestinal sample x 1, feather sample x 2, feather blood sample x 1, skin scraping x 3, cere scraping x 2 & nail scrapings x 1. After reading that I know why she freaks out if anyone goes near the cage! It would be really nice to know what is going on but maybe it will always be a mystery. Also I like my vet as he started to get annoyed and stopped charging me towards the end

Advice Needed
Not sure to tell you the truth Elly, they took swabs from all over and stuck her with needles and also had her overnight at one stage so not sure what they stuck her with

Fatty Can't Fly
She seems better already she has decided that she rules the avairy and is happy with the top perch but to get to the top perch it is a LONG climb from the seed dishes which are on the ground so i saw her today crash lading on the ground from the top perch eat and then climb all the way back up, she was puffed so I figure that it had to do her some good!

Do Males Need A Rest After Breeding.
I will be using my patio cage which is large and putting the three in there to rest them after they finish up. Then after a few weeks they will go back into the avairy.

Pairing Question
She has nail growth issues, basically her nails grow and she does not file them back they also curl when they grow so I have gotten lessons from another breeder about how to do them, they also grow really quickly so I have to watch her and catch and trim every month at least. This may have been the reason. I am happy for her to become one of my reject birds :hap: I am looking into building another avairy somewhere in my back yard to keep my rejects / resuce / older non breeding stock and only have my breeding stock in one avairy this way the older nasty hens (which I have a few of) will not pick on my young future diploma winners :hap: (what I can dream big! :hap: )

Pairing Question
Oh I'll take her... Still thinking if I don't get over there in Jan then I might have to look at getting you to ship me some birds. Elly - you rock at this stuff but now my head hurts. I was told that he was a ino slpit to lacewing Outside of the throat patchs and a very small bit of shading on his wings he carries no other colours Liv - okay *points to comment above*

Pairing Question
Lucy is doing an 60 day Quarantine as I want her to be in top shape. I did contat her breeder from her leg ring she is a cull bird that he sold to a pet shop but was not intrested in telling me more then that. Lucky is an early 08 Bird that I believe needs at least another 6 months as she not even a year old.but will look at pairing them this time next year. Hmmm maybe I just need to go buy a lacywing hen

Pairing Question
Mods if this is in the wrong spot sorry. okay a few people are taken by my guy Angel Now I am told he is an albino split with a lace wing. A few people has asked me if I could breed them lacewing babies for pets, I have said no cause I want to keep my pets to one side of my breeding show birds however it got me thinking. What would you put him to to get lacewing chicks? Also wondering what to put him with from my stock. My options are Unamed Hen 1 Unamed Hen 2 Unamed Hen 3 (been told to to breed and Lut to an Albino so I would be thinking this was a no go pairing) Island Lucky I also have Grey a smaller grey hen (can't find a picture of her) and Lucy side note, Lucy is now mine as the pet shop gave the family their money back and did not request that she be returned to them, Also she looks stressed in this picture but she now looks a picture of health and is very settled in her quaratine cage. So any suggestions would be great. I think I need to keep an eye out for some bigger hens my really big hen Lemon (a Lutino) is on her last clutch

Advice Needed
He is infact a she Checked today and looks like there are a few rounder poos mixed in with the mush, not sure if it is just me or if the cider vinger stuff is helping. Will keep at it and let you know how she is going.

Fatty Can't Fly
Nope she is just fat! Can't feel her brest bones at all! and she waddles when she walks. Either way she was flying when I bought her (she gave the breeder the run around trying to catch her) so unless her feathers have changed in the past month then I would be going with just fat!

Advice Needed
I added aple cider vinger to her water last night (because I have it on hand) need to pick up cordial and the sulf stuff. Spoke to vet, he can't work it out either so we are going to try 7 days on cider, 7 days fresh, 7 days cordial, 7 days fresh, 7 days sulf, 7 days fresh. Oh course if it clears up with any of them then we will go back to fresh and restart quaratine. The vet does not believe that what she has will be caught by the other birds but I am still (at this point in time) going to stick to quaratine rules. Other then that she was in fine form when she got her fly around the room today. I hope so to Norm! I have a male that I really want to breed her with so if it does not clear up then come the warmer months they might get a breeding cage together. it will be his last round as he is an older cock so as much as I hate saying this it is not like I am risking one of my younger stock who has years ahead. the vet thinks it might be the norm for her but not going to risk it till I have tried ever option availble to me. I have monitored her water intake and her feed intake and she does eat well. Most of her died is seed based as I have only been allowed to feed her veggie up untill a few weeks ago and when offered she is not overly intrested in them (not sure she knows what they are) Yes the vet also says that it is excessive urine output and she does drink well which when trying to give her meds is a good thing She has been tested for liver isses and diabetes.
