  1. I get them from my produce store normally if you buy in bulk they are cheaper also alot of the time they are out the back and you ask for say 5 or 10 kg and they put it in a bag for you.
  2. Basically it looks like they have a bump down where their vent is, it looks like the area is swollen. Flame's has gone down now cause guess what.... I HAVE AN EGG! I am sure someone can get pictures up for us.
  3. My guys love their oats and it really does help bulk them up! Just watch it as I have a few that will only eat the oats if they get a chance and they get a oat gut (like a beer belly but on budgies )
  4. I hate the waiting!
  5. They have some funny little quirks like the two pages letter they gave my father to read when he went in there by himself... he's blind and the guy handed him the pages and said read these I will be back in a min... My dad is blind he has a very large BLACK lab seeing eye dog... really people come on! Glad you got the forms that you needed hopefully it can now get processed quickly
  6. I did think about not putting her down to breed but she is a very nice little Lutino Hen. Her Allergies are caused due to her being feed the wrong diet as a young chick and also she is alleric to the glue they use to stick honey sticks together. A change in diet and making sure she stays clear of certain foods and she is a happy healthy little girl. Neat... none that I could see today. Flame was sitting in the nest box today when I went to wake them up so I did not disturd her will check again tonight.
  7. Anyone have one they want to get rid of or know of where to pick one up? My cousin just lost his and wants to get another one. PM me if you know of one please.
  8. okay well i don't but Flame does and so does Storm! I am so excited, Flame seems very cuddly. For those who don't know I put Flame and Blue down to breed these guys are my semi tame Budgies they come get Cuddles when I go out to the avairy but only on their terms. Flame also almost died after Nell my dog tried to eat her and then had blood nose issues so she has been through alot in her short little life. I did take her down to the vet and got a full check before putting her in the breeding cage as she has "allergies" which causes the blood noses so wanted to make sure she is in top condition. I go to clean the cage or change the water and both of them jump on my hands for a stratch and a cuddle, while giving flame a cuddle I noticed the egg bum! I am so excited! I then checked Storm and she to has egg bum so excited as Harley seems to be doing his thing! She also seems more settled and not as flighty so hopefully she will not smash the eggs this time around.
  9. This is a sticky issue each person will have a different opinion. Some say there are more cases of FM in summer when it is really hot others will have it crop up while line breeding and they can trace 5 or 6 generations with no cases of it and then bang is happens to one chick out of 20.... I can't work it out. I have been told if you have a french molt bird you should cull (and cull in the old fashion sense of the word eg kill all your birds) clean, disinfect and start again. I have been told it's not that big of an issue unless you have a chick that is really suffering. I have been told it's okay but if the bird can't fly then to put it down. I have a FM cock (Lime) he can't fly that well but then neither can Harley. My avairy is set up so that they can climb all the way from the ground up to the perches via a massive log and they glide down to the food landing with a cute little splat! Have any of my older birds come down with it since introducing Lime... nope. Have any of my chicks got it, well no as i am waiting for my first round to be laid. Would I kill my enitre flock because of lime? NOW FRELLING WAY. Would i put Lime down cause he has it? NO. Personally I am not going to worry about it unless every one of my nests have it or I have a chick that gets it really bad. It comes down to a person thing.
  10. If you don't want him flat pack him and send him to me
  11. Ring Centrelink and get the nomiee forms as suggested but also get the ball rolling on POA as it can take a while for this to get approved, it took almost 18 months for me to get it for my brother who has mental health issues and while waiting for it to come through he bought a 3 million dollar property????? That was fun trying to get out of that!
  12. MB why does it not suprise me that you know that!
  13. You got a link to a picture? I have not seen them yet.
  14. Going to check out the levels and adjust amount acorrding. I know that alot of breeders do this down here when I spoke to the company that I am getting it off he told me that he has 5 other breeders that use the same brand. I would only be using it in the breeding cages not in the regular aviary or flights to help give them a boost over the egg laying period. If they hate it and refuse to eat it well I always have a horse who will be happy to get it
  15. This is great I know how much you wanted to get babies out of her!
  16. Keep It Simple Stupid I had heard this so figure I can nick some from my dad as he has bails if it for the horse and cow. I have ordered some HyGain that has the minerals as a powder form not a pellet form. Will see about adding a bit into their diets and see how I go. Thanks for the advice guys
  17. As people say don't use straight Detol. I use it to clean cages with but it is like half a cap full to 2L water! Also all cages are dried and aired before a bird gets back in them. Really need a picture or you can try the oil olive trick. Will not hurt the bird if she is just in breeding condition just amke sure you don't cover her tiny nostrials (sp?) as I believe that birds can not breath out thier mouth.
  18. Hey... *runs off to vent about neat saying I vent to much * Honey I am so there with you. I worry that I do not take care of my birds well enough and I have around the 25 - 30 mark and spent at least 3 hours a day just doing feed and water. I have taken on resuce birds and have tried to help and is sicken and saddens me when you see things like this happening. As you have told me so many times before all we can do is support and educate and hope we are doing the right thing for the birds *hugs*
  19. Works for me as well.... it's a link revolt for neat! Sorry bad day....
  20. Yes they are sold to breed Budgies in. I mush just have fat hens!
  21. Mine have a flip top I think I am going to have to do something about the bottoms however as they do no have a concave....
  22. I have spoken to some breeders down here and alot of them are using horse food mixed into the seed for Budgies. Wondering if anyone else does that and if so what brand do you use? I keep hearing about soaked seed, what is this, how do you do it and why? PVC or PVM or something like that, it's a red powder made from Bricks that I have been told to add to the breeding cages for the birds anyone know anything about this? Wheatgerm oil, does it really work? How do you and how much do you mix in? And last but not least, people talk about egg mix, but then I hear how the egg mix that you buy has no real eggs in it. I have never bothered to get it as my guys get fresh eggs (cooked) but is this something that I should look at getting? One breeder I went to had like seven little tray things full of stuff and was telling me how the water is on a router system so they get something different in the water each day. Another breeder was big on the KISS method and had his breeding pairs on seed only diets. I am trying to find a middle ground.
  23. Check out the link that I gave the yellow boxes are them they are plastic and great to clean! (Don't tell my sister but I dishwash them!) My smaller hens are not having an issue and I have one who likes it over the wooden one that I have. And yes neat it was funny... I wanted to get a camera but also worried about how lemon was doing so she had to come first.
  24. WEll I have that nice Albino Cock who really was just going to go in with the Lutino Hen that I have but maybe I will try and breed MB a Cremo?
  25. This is a little bit of a funny and a little bit of a warning. I got my cage set ups from JJ Avairies and I do like them and this is not a negative post about the company or their product. I got this set up - It's the one with the yellow boxes attached http://www.geocities.com/jj_aviariescages/FlightCages.html They are great and my pet types has taken to the cages and boxes like pros I have two pairs who are using the nesting boxes at the moment going in and out and no issues. Well I gave Lemon and Lime (one of my show pairs) a nesting box, she is a ground layer and I really thought she would not be intrested in it but gave it to them anyway to see what happens. Yesterday morning while doing the round I discover her stuck halfway in the box. The hole is not big enough for her. I open the box and she is just sitting there going "Well you going to get me out?" Lime is preening her backside. I try and push her backwards and with some angling (and a few more bite marks added to my collection) and we get her out. Removed the box and thought well she is a fat hen.... Then today I go out and my other show pair is stuck, the hen had managed to get in but could not push her way out..... So again her box was removed and I am going to get some other boxes to use. So my warning is do make sure that the hens can fit in and out of the nest box before you give it to them. Lemon did look funny but the other hen was really upset about not being able to get out to her mate. I know that it is simple but really I bought Budgie nest boxes I just assumed that the hens would be able to fit.
