Not so worried about cost as I have $100 voucher to spend at the pet store and they are closing in a few weeks so going to have to spend it on something. I know that their fish stock is limited but it's one of thise cases where I want to support them as much as possible, they have been in business in the same shop for 38 years and now due to factors beyond their control they are closing I figure that even if I get expensive plants, some drfit wood or rock formation and two angel fish i am still going to have money left over for some budgie toys, cuttle fish and maybe something for the dogs!

One of Flames unhatched eggs was covered in poo, I was going to try and clean it up but then someone told me about how they had done this and while flicking off the dried poo they took a bit of the shell with it. So I have been leaving it and hoping for the best. Now today I noticed that the outside layer of the egg is missing but there is still the thin layer of the inside. It is only a tiny spot and nothing is leaking out so what should I do? Should I crack the egg and see if the baby is viable, should I leave it or should I right it off? I have no clue when it happened and since 3 of the 6 eggs have hatched the egg is due to hatch any day now. thoughts, suggestions, ideas?

Don't worry i was trying to catch my normal grey hen today and she was really gettting on my nerves then i caught her and put her in the holding cage went back and looked and thought "Oh **** I caught one of the cocks" did a head count in the avairy and nope they are all there, I know she is way out of condition but still I spent most of the day going "I know she is a hen but maybe I got it wrong" sometimes the brain does not work the way you want it to.

OH OH OH I want a pink Budgie... no i want an Orange one... hang on and orange one with black racing stripes... *runs off to find paint* very cute, I have a green faced one at the moment she loves her calcium stick!

MB you're back! Oh Oh oh Pictures needed... anyway will let you know. Set up seems to be running fine just sorting out the PH levels and then adding this other stuff they gave me. It comes down to crunch time next weekend when I get to pick my fish. If I get the PH level sorted then hopefully on Wednesday or Thursday I can pick up my decorations and my plants put them in to settle and then get the fish over the weekend. My only issue is I can hear the water running in my study and it makes me need to pee all the time

Thanks, I think that I will just get two angelfish and leave it at that. I would rather them be healthy and happy then looking pretty for me. Yes letting the water settle for a week. The stop said that they would not sell me any fish untill I have had the tank set up for a week so going back next weekend and picking my fish. The guys was really good when we went through the different types I liked this black one but he said no not with Angel fish. i would love a fighting fish bit then I can only really have one. Hmmm choices choices choices.... My real issue is that the tank looked HUGE in the store but then i got it home and next to my Budgie cage it looks tiny

okay so now I am worried. I decided to buy a tropical fish tank and get some fish. I bought what I could afford and not want I really wanted and I thought that it would be big enough but now I am having second thoughts. I think later down the track I will get a much bigger one when I decide that I have time to look after them all. this is what I got It is a 39L tank with fiter system and heater. I put washed gravel in the bottom and have treated the water going to let it settle for a week before adding plants, driftwood and fish. I really want Angel fish http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/cichlid/angelfish.php I am thinking only two to start with but now I am freaking out that I should have saved some more money and gotten the bigger tank but this smaller tank was on sale with 25% off. Basically with the sale I got a $400 set up for $339 and a $100 gift voucher for the store to come back and purchase fish and plants. Does anyone have tropical fish?

okay the first two I got right the third I had no clue but how did you get cobalt out of the last one, the cinnamon opaline I am with you but the colbalt????? Not diagreeing but trying to wrap my head around it. Also very pretty birds!

Life at the Angelic Zoo! I was watching them today they are so cute, i think the quail family has a convert.... Now I am thinking they need some mates and a breeding set up and please someone stop me! :hap: I am going to call them Ren and Stimpy, why well the plucked one (Ren) seems to be plotting my demise and the boofy one (Stimpy) seems to be insane. the other Option was Pinky & The Brain. I am such a soft touch when it comes to poor little guys like this, I know that I am going to have to harden up when it comes to culls of my show types but hey that's at least a few clutchs away

well I got two. I went to a breeder I found and when I told him i did not want to breed and show he refused to sell me certain birds and showed me his "pet culls" i was looking at this massive avairy with all their little chicken things running around like mad and I notice this one guy getting the **** beaten out of him and another one trying to defend him. i pointed this out and the guy was all like "Survival of the fittest" ****! GRRR anyway i asked how much for the pair and he said $10 as they where **** weak things. One looks really feather plucked and the other is a big rough and scruffy looking but hey they seem in good health otherwise. Settled them in they are a bit stressed so going to let them settle. I asked the guy if they where hens or cocks but he grumbled about how I was wasting his time and walked off and left me standing int he middle of his avairy So I took my guys and went home. I know I should not have bought off him but his show types looked AMAZING and really well looked after. I guess I was not going to spend enough to suit him. Anyway going to put a kitty litter tray of sand in the avairy for them (when they finish qarantine and are allowed in the avairy). Do I need anthing else? Also I know the photos suck but anyone know what sex they are? or of a way to sex them. I also got a tropical tank and next week once the water system is all sorted will be getting some Angel fish, yes my house is turning into a zoo!

I now have two, the two other nest I think are going to be a right off but will leave for another week. One hen is not spending alot of time in there anymore so i think something scared her off the nest :hap:

Not planning on breeding so thought about getting 3 or 4 females but might only get two. Neat I have the same issue all my cages have wire bottoms so I am trying to work out how I rig one for them.

I'll take them send me your bank details I will will send you the money, then just flat pack them and send them to me the strange thing is I am only half joking! I am falling for lacewings bad!

Thanks guys, the bird place near me is closing down and I know they have a few cages of quails so I might see if I can get a bunch of females for cheap. Also thanks Kaz I have another word to add to my "must learn to spell" list

okay so I have a dirt floor avairy that I want to get concreted in but have not gotten around to it. I have been thinking about getting Quails and everyone has been really positive about them so far but wondering what you guys think? Also if I am going to concrete in then maybe not such a good idea i I had heard that they don't like hard floors. Also do they fight much? Not planning on breeding them or anything just researching. Can i ask a question then. I have a dirt floor avairy that I was going to concrete should I just not do that. Ensure it is rodent proof (well as much as a dirty floor can be) and then put sand down? or should I concerte and then put sand down?

Flame and Blue - Flame is a Lutino and Blue I thought was a Ressive Pied but then he has Iris rings so that threw a spanner in the works I think you said he was a DF pied grrr I have it written down somewhere! As for eye colour not sure will check tonight when I get home.

I use straw on the bottom of mine to no ill effects other then for some reason the budgies like to hang it over the perches.
