I think she has read all these bad things about hens and has seen my guys and all my really friendly ones as cocks. maybe I should send her some pictures and tell her about flame as I know that she really likes this bird. I know the hen bites but she is a dog trainer by trade and does amazing things with abused animals so a little bitting should not be an issue (I am not saying that if you can train a dog you can train a bird more that she has a way with animals and is prepared to put in the hard yards) also she is looking into clicker training which I am going to start with Boof so maybe it will be okay. Also the Hen will be a one bird family so should be easier to train that way.

See this is what you get from pet shops and she works there! then again least she spoke to me and sent pictures of the cage as they one they sold her was wrong but we are making do with it and least now it is set up right. See I had slimey the gold fish for about 16 years and never had an issue with him. He survived two bush fires, three moves and Bording school and Uni with me so I did not want to get another one till I was ready (I know that sound stupid cause he was only a fish but it was strange when I was really little I use to hug his fish tank to give him cuddles and he outlived so many of my other pets). I thought if I kept a gold fish alive all that time these would not be that hard. That and my BF who kills plants can keep and even breed tropical fish so how hard could it be! WRONG! Oh well. If I decide to go with Fancy gold fish it is only really a matter of taking the heater out and letting the water settle and going from there.

Thanks for posting again Neat I think we should also put a "signs" for these issues up as well. Eg how to tell if you think your bird has X. It's one thing to say treat it with this method another for people to spot the differences. I am sure there is a list here somewhere will have a look.

Thanks for the info. I was told to do the 3 hours change over. One hour in the bag resting in the tank water then slowley add tank water to bag every 15 min for 1 - 2 hours untill water is completely mixed. A few people have said that the betas are very hardy so thinking that is why they have survivied. Going to get some more of them next week. Might even get a nice big pretty male and just have them in the tank. I do like the cat fish things however as they clean the walls and the rocks so might look at another one of them. However if I still fail then pulling the heater out of the tank and going to get some more fancy goldfish I brain tumor is so much fun to watch!

No I think that is a large amount to have to pay. Also I did not think that they could say no to a wheelchair? My Dad has a seeing eye dog and theatres have to accommodate her so they should have to accommodate a wheelchair. Also limiting the tickets to X per family is a joke. One of the kids that I look after has a school play and they did say direct family only (ie mum dad brothers and sisters) but ran into an issue with one family who is a family of 13 kids! (mum came to the marriage with 7 and dad came to the marriage with 6) But they still mananaged to fit them all in and give them a dicount to make sure they all got to come and see. I do think they are asking alot and if the kids do not want to be in it then don't make them is my theory. Also I would hate to have twins in that group. 2 x performace tickets = $12 2 x parents tickets = $24 2 x superhero costumes = $60 Grand total of $96 and what is you have other kids? Most hire shops charge you to clean the costumes which would be another $40 on top of that. It really does add up. I would balk at that as well so don't think it is only you.

It's because of the way the filter works. also the warm water rises so you should have one corner with rocks etc that is cooler by a few degrees, well that is what all the research i have read says so was how I set it up

The guys at the pet shop did a water test for me everything was right. The only thing we can think of is the heater. I have it set a 26 so one side of the tank (filter side) is 26 the other side is a little cooler at 24 right down the bottom. It was the tropical tank that had an Angel fish, 2 catfish things, 2 female simese fighting fish and three platy's. I only have the two simese fighting fish left and one looks not very well :sad: BF is coming around on the weekend to check the set up and will go from there.

I have been offered some large pavers for next to nothing so thinking of putting road base/sand base down, leveling it off and then placing the pavers on top, they are VERY heavy so it would take alot to move them. Maybe a little rappid set under it. Then sanding over the top to help with the clean up. Then going to put some logs and shurbs on the back end for the quails. Might go and see about getting a few females. The research I have done say to have space for the two nests and have at least two to three hens to one cock to stop them fighting over a hen. Going to have to buy off another breeder as I don't want to go back to the same guy again. Will post pictures when i am done. Oh god another project!
