  1. WOW god so strange how these things happen. Glad the kids are okay.
  2. Hey I thin sperm can last for about a week so I would say add the nest box and foster the eggs. DQ is sitting on eggs at the moment so if you need to you can put them under here as I don't really care about her eggs.
  3. Hugs I know how hard this can be and how hard it can be to finally say "I am letting you go"
  4. No hurry he can't get the lizard untill the 18th of Oct. Also have to grab the dimentions off you so that I can get a stand made for it.
  5. okay cool will set up doing a swap then, sorry did not know that you could get a fluro UV tube
  6. Hi just wanted to check, it has the fluro light, the heat lamp and does it have space for the UV light?

What about this poor guy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmY0F4Y2z7Y
  8. Very cute. Bars are a tricky thing I have Buddy who still has all of his down to his beak and he is nearing 6 months old!
  9. From my research and talking to other breeders this is true to an extent. That is why if the egg is external from the body you should smash it and remove as much as possible. The issue with my hen was that part of the egg was stuck to the uterus and when the vet pulled it off she tore the uterus. That is why the recommend that you remove the non stuck egg parts lube the area and let the body take the uterus and the remaining egg back into the body where it will be broken down. they (being my vet and other breeders) say to make sure the hen gets antibiotics, heat and is watched and not put in a situation to breed agian for a few months.
  10. Thanks SW. I normally treat them every three months if I can catch them! But really they only get a does if I see an issue or they are coming into the breeding room to go down for a round and when I first get them.
  11. He has one but it is to small and his dad wants on of the ones that as all the lights and temp gage in it already so Jock is hunting around for one for me.
  12. So the pet psychic talked to a budgie. http://www.triplem.com.au/sydney/shows/the...chic/index.html About the third pod cast down she talks to a nervous Budgie!
  13. Yeah Harley has taught him to open the cage but I locked up all the slidding doors but the cage he is in has a swing breeding box door on the side I figure that he pushed that open. Did not think that he could have done that so everything is locked up tight now. I use a drop on the back of my birds head/neck once every three months, guards against mites and worms. You have to get the stuff from a bird dealer or a vet as it has to be mixed right otherwise it can be two strong. What is the Big resistance debate to ivermectins?
  14. Kaz - should be able to take a picture of him tonight with Stumpy as we are going for a cuddle session as he can't take her home till they move into the new house and get the new enclosure with is around the 18th of Oct. libby - I know I am shocking when it comes to the whole "injured puppy" thing I want to take them home and look after them. I have tried hard over the past few months not to buy her as I don't really have the time and the space at the moment for her, when I knew that T was going to get another one I was prepared to talk him into her but I did not need to do that so was really happy that he is turning to be a "animal carer" not just an "animal owner" the pie - I love the fact that we know the size she will be and her temperment. I have been trying to work out where I could put an enclosure for her in my house without moving her into the living room (which would annoy my sister) but between the young Budgies I am taming, My two Budgies who are tame and Elmo my King Parrot and the dogs she would not get enough cuddles in my house which is sad. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a snake but my mother and sister are deadly scared of them (my mother spent 2 hours "killing" a black plastic pipe once) so no snake for AV
  15. I know with mine (as I am small time and will only have a few) that I will not hand tame them but try and handled them and put them in show cages every day so that they get use to them. I know some show birds who are really tame not fromtheir owners trying but more from them being handled so much.
  16. I know, pretty much any other bird and I think that would have been that. I think he heard Flame and came back for her but WOW I am so going to buy a lotto ticket today Thanks I was thinking he should be covered but not 100% sure so thought I would double check here before I double dosed him.
  17. The 11 year old boy that I look after has had a bad run with pets. First he got a Marble Gecko around the 17th of Jan within a few months the poor guy had died. Now the only reason we can come up with was one day the air con was left on his room at 9 degrees so the poor little guy froze to death or he was older then we thought (they only live about 18 months) and died from old age. We did everything else by the book so have no clue as to what happened and the vet could not even tell us but did think that it might have been old age (however not sure if he said this more for T’s benefit or not) So about a month later we get him a baby bearded dragon. He calls him Rex and all is well, then we notice that Rex is not looking very good, he has stopped eating and never really grew. There are a few reasons that could be behind this, one he has a genetic issue or two he is not getting enough UV light. So a trip to the vet, a new lighting set up, changes in diet and a week later we find him dead in his water bowl. My theory is that he got in there and could not get out and drowned. Then his parents decided not to tell him so we have a good month of saying he is at the vets blah blah blah. So finally over the weekend we say that Rex passed away. He took it really well as he has had about 3 weeks to prepare for this fact. So we start looking for another pet. He decides he wants another Bearded Dragon so we go to look at them at my pet shop. They have some babies in but they also have an 18 month old female who as a young hatchling had her foot bitten off by her father. Now the pet shop has had issues selling her. No one who breeds wants her as they worry that the pet shop might be lying to them and it’s a genetic deformity and no one who is pet shopping wants her as she is deformed. Now she is bigger she is no longer the cute little lizard and kids who are buying pet want a baby. So for almost a year she has been in the pet store. She is really tame as they handle her each day to clean her cage and loves having her head scratched. ( I have had cuddles with her a few times but have resisted from buying her) Anyway, I take the little boy in and he looks at all the Lizards and we say that we will go home and discuss with his parents over what he can get. He gets home and spends about 25 mins convincing his parents to let him buy “Stumpy” the older female. He said, and I quote “Dad she really needs a good home, and no one is going to buy her so can I take her on? I promise I will look after her and if I need to make changes to her cage AV can help me as she has a bunch of reject budgies…” Hey they are not rejects they are flight impaired there is a difference! Anyway I am just really proud that he overlooked a cute little baby lizard to give this girl a home. The other good thing is that an older lizard is a lot easier to care for then a baby, you have less issues with compactions, eating the wrong things and lighting. E.g. a few days without UV light will not hurt a grown lizard a few days without UV light can kill a baby lizard. I am just so proud of him.
  18. I am doing my rounds today and I notice that Blue is not in his cage (Blue is the daddy of my month old babies) So I freak out because if he got out then the dogs could have eaten him or he could have flown out the open door. I know he was in there last night when I went to bed so I am crying and I move the Bubs and Flame in their cage outside, I put my treat bowl on the top of the cage and I am calling and calling. I start to feel like it is a lost cause and sitting on my back step in tears as Blue is one of my semi tame guys that use to live inside with me. Then something lands on my shoulder. It's Blue! I very quietly move him to my finger and then into the cage with Flame and the Babies. I lock that cage up tight (Bread clips and twist ties) I still am feeling so sick about the whole thing and I can't believe that he came back! Now I am wondering they are not due for Ivermectin till another 3 weeks but should I do him earlier? Would it be safe to do the babies as well? Still in shock that he came back!
  19. I have no clue but there are some people on this board who are amazing and can tell you around day 7 onwards what you are going to have! Very clue jellybeans, can't wait to see them fully feathered.
  20. Hi not much on the vet knowledge here but i can give you a little info on gout. I have it in my hands things that flare it up are, alcohol, seafood, cauliflower and painkiller. Heat helps it, I love holding my hands on a hot water bottle when it flares up it's great. Maybe letting him have a cuddle on a warm hot water bottle (I have a little one that has a sheep skin cover that my budgie love I use it as a sick pad) Gout is the most painful thing I have ever had (and I have a prolapse disc in my back!) anything touching the skin hurts like red hot pokers so maye standing on the perch is really painful for him I can't even stand the touch of my bed sheets when I have a bad case it's so bad that i throw up from the pain. I know for humans when my gout flares up they give me anti inflamatries not painkillers so maybe have a chat to him about that. A few things that I try and add to my diet to help keep it under control (any feel free to jump in if any of these are not Budgie friendly) Ginger - raw cooked or covered in choclate it makes me want to barf but it does work Turmeric - I add it to most things i cook Arnica - it's a cream that I got very good might want to check with the vet before appling to an animal Licorice Root - i can get it in tea form Cod liver Oil - Makes me sick thinking about taking this, but I know you can give it to Budgies as I soak one of my hens seed it in to help keep her regular and her eggs come out when I add this to her diet. Boswellia - never tried it as the tea always smelt bad but it is suppose to be good. That is a start. Have a chat to your vet. As i said it might be different with humans but I got told I had this about 5 years ago, some simple mods to my diet and i have not had a flare up in about 2 1/2 years. i hope this helps. good luck with everything.
  21. I have nothing bad to say about working mother, heck I feel like one but I do sometimes feel like my bosses kids are missing out. At one stage i worked out the kids went about 4 days without seeing their parents and they live under the same roof. MB you spend time with your kids, like the bird auction/sale thing we went to. We took them, yes Alex is a little money and tried to disapear a few times but we worked it out and worked around it. If my boss thinks it is to hard to take the kids somewhere they don't go. They are not going to the show because it's to hard to take all of them, Oliver does not do swimming lessons because that requires someone getting in the pool with him and that is to hard (they just bought a house with a pool so worried about how that is going to work) I wonder sometime why they had kids as they don't seem to enjoy them like other people I know do.
  22. I would have said two as well one is cute but I think two would be the better show bird
  23. I bring up my Bosses kids, had the youngest for about 12 hours a day from the time he was 5 days old till now when he is going on 4. I feel like a working mum and I have done all the major step, when he crawled for the first time, his first steps, his first word, his first day at school, his first hair cut you name it I did it (even that really awful first nappy) so I don't feel the need to have a kid as I feel I have already had one if that makes sense.
