  1. Jimmy the 4th Friday next month, might not be a goer, that the first day of the national. If you want to see the good birds, give them a ring & you can go & see them pick there team for the sheild & on the 17th you could go to the sheild & see the birds from the 16 to 18 Victorian clubs competing, for the team to go to the national. All Melbourne forum members,if the 17th is free make your way to the Northland Secondary College, 62 Murray Road East Preston, you will not be dissapointed, they are the cream of the victorian Budgie on show.
  2. There is some very good breeders in the Melton club,They won the old bird Sheild,goi9ng back a month or so. Some of the top birds, will come out of this club, that will rep Victoria,at the national. How did you go JB,did they take you into the club. Its the up & comeing club. You will be on a winner,Top breeders at the club.Do the right thing & you will be breeding good birds in no time. :thankyou:
  3. There are people in the bird world, that spend there life, working on colour mutation & if they thought they could breed a black budgie,I am pretty sure they would of made it happen. I think if you want to play with trying to do something with the budgies & see some results, take one of the minor breeds & lift them the the standard of the normals. You will have acheaved some thing others will after & all your time & effort will be rewarded.
  4. I would be worried about the ring.falling off at that size, I would leave for another 2 days.

This thread needs to be moved, nothing to do with budgie.
  6. I would think if a black budgie, could of been bred it would of happened by now. There ate some very cleaver breeders in the budgie world,& they havnt come up with one, there has been some badly marked & heavy flecked birds. But not black by a long way.
  7. Yes so true Kaz,only one bird, if there are no mites, its not going to catch mites.Out of the air.
  8. Is the Y/F ubc beak correct.look to be to one side. :hooray:
  9. You can breed them together, but its best to breed them to a normal or crest bred. To get the size, Wack them into 2 breeding cages with normals, & next year, breed the 2 best young birds back to the opsite crest,& that will be your start of your crest line. :hooray:
  10. With the breeding of clearwings.forthe show bench,it is best to be breeding, clearwing to split clearwing,to keep the size, there is a lot of other things come into it when breeding clearwings,it would be a good idea if you are serious about breeding clear wings,is to get a good book on there breeding, they are a hard breed to improve, not a breed for a beginner,if you want to show them,One step foward, two steps back.I have tryed, but they finish up at the bird dealer, for $6 I have a cock I will this season will try over 2 split hens.
  11. Have any of you, that are haveing problems, with sick birds, stopped & thought, why do i have these birds, that get sick all the time.Is there any reacuring reason this happens & why do I keep doing the same things every time. In the last week or so,there have been at least 5ppl have come on my birds are sick, I did this I did that. I had them in quarantine,I gave them every known medicine, that you can give a bird, but now they are sick. I have been breeding birds & poultry for a long time &been around a lot of breeders, I might get the odd one that gets a bit fluffed up,its put in a pen & given a Vit C in the water, for a day or 2 & if showing no improvement. Its sent to GOD,Touch Wood,I have never had more then 2 birds sick at the same time.In the last 10 years I would of treated no more then 8 bird, for being a bit fluffed up.If I buy a bird,it would not go into the flight, till I had breed with it & if it did't breed,,,,,,,out.I only buy in young birds & only from breeders I know.

  14. The plot thickings,Get out the surface spray & spray all the nests.
  15. Sorry about that,Yes Kaz thats what I mean. Splat ifthe second round is not fertile. Its 1of 2 things, the cock is not fertile or the hen is not mateing up to the cock.
  16. I thought red mites, when I started reading this post to,I would be pretty sure you would not have red mites Kaz,I don't think I have come accross the problem,Seeing as this post was started last year, Renee may be able to tell as, how her birds finished up.

  18. Splat take the clear eggs after 3 days & a lot of hens will keep laying,& the fertilty might come good,I see were you a number of clear in the nest & 1 fertile,is that the first or last egg layed. If it was the last egg the cocks are comeing into breeding & by removeing the clear eggs, your breeding season might turn out okay.
  19. If not eating & she is fit, she will eat when she gets hungry. But on the other hand,if she is poorly, you have a problem.
  20. The people that come on this forum & say they went to a pet shop & brought a budgie, after all the posts on here about pet shop budgies. There may be some healthy birds in a petshop, but they are in with un healthy one,I auction poultry & birds of a Monday,to be honest,at times I have said,I will not put that bird up for auction It will dead before you get home. These are dealers buying these birds,Munchie, how old id this bird you brought, has it got a leg ring on if not how do you know that its not 5 yrs old.
  21. There will be every breed of bird under the sun there,& you wont be able to move for people,if its any thing like the one in Geelong,a week or 2 back. You will be able to buy, bush budgie there.they are as big as a little finch.
  22. Yes Kaz,I will agree, this is a good example of spangle dom pied.
  23. I will give you a 10/10 Kaz.

I like the look of the UBC,the cinnomon opline hen,no The grey watson, ; like the head, bit hard to tell if the length of body is there. The green looks short on the perch.E the normal grey, looks to have length.
  25. If you put that bird in a show cage & asked the the passing trade, what they thought it was, most would say dom pied,it only that you know,it has spangle in it that you are calling it dom pied spangle.
