Mauve Or Violet Grey?
Yes that's a mauve.

New Birds
I was going to go the other way! I reckon in the first photo (above) his colour is way too blue to be a Grey and his cheek patch not grey enough either. Looks like a Mauve (or Violet Mauve) to me. I guess we get a lot of variation depending on the calibration of the monitor and the ambient light we're viewing the pictures in. I just compared his cheek patch to the greygreen on the perch, next him. It is hard to tell,I thought also in the first picture,it was a mauve. PS perhaps the onwer of the bird can tell us,the cheek patch colour.

Food Variety
I think alot of you people are getting to wraped up in trying to feed to many different things to your Budgie. They are mainly seed eaters,a little silver beet is all they need as long as you are feeding good quailty seed, they will do okay.

New Birds
Yes he is grey, can tell by the grey cheek patch,

Trimming The Vent
It is a lot quicker to pluck out the feather from around the vent, you need to do it each round as the feathers grow back. You can show them if thats what you would like to after, the breeding season.

Fleas
Yes Richo, you can use a hair dryer, just put the bird in the cage & let the warm air blow on him & he will be dry in no time.

A Tale Of Caution
That is interesting Renee.I need to talk to a breeder I know, who would breed up 300 for the season & I think he paints the inside of his nest boxes white,I myself have white ice cream containers in my nest boxes & also I have a light timer in the breeding room & the lights are on for 16 hrs day & when they go off there is a solar light that comes on when the lights go out, thats so if the hen is off the nest the glow from the solar lets them see to go back onto the nest from the glow from that light.I breed my 80 to 100 each season. But only 3 or 4 per round,I have 8pr down at the moment, expecting the first chicks in the first week of July.I will be interested to see these nest boxes, when you putup the photoes.

Went To The Auction
they did have some nice ones i think kazzy and i were lucky with some our buys i think some the breeders actually stoped their bidding when they saw we were bidding on certain things we did speak to lots of them asked opinions on our chosies explained why that certain bird would be good for myself and stuff cause honestly i think some the birds i got could have gone way more we were being looked after i also met geoff tonkin he was in line with me when collecting birds he is a very nice man and i got his number for future he said i made the right choise not going and paying all i had on the cinn violet hen i told him i changed my plan night before that i had some more mutations and coloures still to get but not just now so thats so cool as i love his birds their beautiful I know Geoff Tonkins, very well.He is the same club as me,he would of had birds for sale in the auction as well. He would only give you good information/

Crested Budgies
It all depends on how well bred & size & how much the person thats bidding against you,is willing to bid to. At the auction.you need to have aprice you are going to bid to & stop at that figure.Being a Auctioneer. I like the punters, that dont have a set price, you can easyly pull another bid or to out of them.As for quoteing a price to pay for them,it is a bit hard, with out seeing the birds, they may be worth $20 or they may be $100 If you know someone that is there that knows, there worth, its best to ask for some help if you have not been to the auction before.

Can My "bushies" Go In The Avairy?
Once you breed your bush budgie with a normal budgie, you have lost that true bush type & size & no longer one or the other.

Breeding Pairs 2009
Anything to be helpfull Dave,I usely don't worry about the colour, till they have feathers,But if the chick had red eye, there is a fair chance of it being ino.

Can My "bushies" Go In The Avairy?
They will be okay,if the mesh is small squares & there are no other holes they can fit through.
-
At What Age Do You Sell Baby Budgie's?
Yes at that age they would't be cracking grain yet.
-
I Wish I Had An Air Conditioned Bird Room-
I replace nestbox doors with spare aviary mesh cut to size during hot days and put the nestbox lid back on for night times. That was a good idea Kaz.

New Birds
Matt when mating up,it is best if you dont have to use flecked birds. But if you do,make sure one of the pr has a nice clear top & the chicks from that mating, make sure you don't mate back to a flecked bird.

Quick Question
It might be a halfsider Wayno.

Golden Cob
Richo, seeing as you only have one Budgie, stick with Trill,Golden Cob is in 25Kg bags, unless there is someone you know, that is useing G C.You could Google Golden Cob & look at there site, they may sell under a different brand name, in the super markets,or they will have where you could buy it from.
