My Nappy Cage
Thanks Kaz even surprise myself sometimes , BUT if I couldn't do it myself I would never get these type of things. This morning my lovely pine tall boy fell to pieces when I tried to get a jumper out, so I pulled it out side and fixed it all by myself, very proud I was. Always have been good with my hands. Love my new cage, I went to wheeler street timber and second hand yard and bought a sheet of galvinised steel sheeting for a tray for the cage and came home and got the angle grinder out which I have never cut with before, (I have use it to make my concaves so not a complete stranger to it Anyway I bought the right blade for the job and it cut like a dream and then I had the had task of bending the front up but after awhile hitting with a rubber mullet and the steel stuck in a vice with a long piece of wood to get it straight it work great too. A nice big tray for my cage.

My Nappy Cage
Last weekend I was going to the Melton auction but at the last minute we didn't go, well I decided to put part of my money to good use meaning forget those dump auctions as birds go far to much than what they are worth. So I set off to bunnings and bought my supplies. I made a 91cm long and 50cm high and about 40 -50cm deep nappy cage for my babies. They love it, they can stretch their wings etc. I would of liked it longer but I had only enough room to sqeeze it in. I designed it so I can hang a show cage off one end. there is plenty room on top to sit my show cages too. So over all very pleased with my work.

So do they get points. Is there something that replaces the Diploma. I think all states should be the same, a standard point system and rewards system, what do others think.

Splats Breeding Season To Date
As promised here a a few photos of my babies, This nest has 6 babies, parents are sky blue hen and father my violet I won the violet class at the shield last year and he is the father of the violets babies at the start of this thread but different sky hen. the babies are over 2 nest 2 in this nest the pink ones. the other two with down are from another nest and this is the other 4, the last one hatched yesterday, I took the picture when it was a hour old. There are 4 from this nest, there are 2 left here which are the youngest and 2 in the nest above, parents are a light green cinn spangle hen out of the violet hen and my wow bird and the cock is a cinn grey green (watson breeding) both birds. The other babies in the photo above are from 2 nest , 2 babies the sky spangle and the grey cin spangle ate from my grey cock bird full brother to hen above and the violet cock above and the hen is from G Tonkin sky cock and the grand daughter of my violet hen ( hen hen died after laying 6 eggs and silly me saved the first 2 fertile ones and threw the other 4 away. She ruptured herself. poor litle girl. The grey spangle is looking quite nice today. AND the other baby is a green oplaine I think is from my dark green spangle hen out of the yellow df spangle cock and the violet hen and the cock is a sky cock from Geoff which is A Rowe bloodline. My final nest with babies is 4 grey green cinnamons, 2 are opalines. This is dad a grey green on loan from Geoff, ( he is moulting as I have had him in a cage on his own so now I am waiting for him to come into condition to use him again. and this is mum a cinnamon opaline violet full sister to the violet, grey and the 2 light green cinn spangle above. She has raised these babies by herself, she had 3 babies up to a week ago but I had to put her youngest back because of the other hen decided to pluck all her babies. So she will be getting a good rest now. and 2 of her babies and here is an update of a couple of the older babies . I have 28 babies to date. Going to put some pairs down soon.

2010 Melton Blue Ribbon Auction
I was going but my ride had to work but I decided to put my money to better use and I made a big nappy cage for my babies. Decided I have the birds here just need to work on them for a while. AND maybe save my money for the bloodline I really want.

Danger In The Nest Box
The whole idea of this I would think is the hen gets her self in the breeding mode and then when the cock is introduced and the nest still bloked off gives the two plenty of time to mate before the hen takes to the box and more than like resolves the problem of nest bound.

Ivermectin
The vet told me to keep it in a dark place as light deteriorates it. I have use cotton bud on babies as young as 10 days and never had a problem.
-
Ivermectin
Here is a warning, a budgie breeder from around here bought some ivermectin from a bird stall I think in Sydney and applied it to his birds (nest feathers I think and lost the lot), SO BE careful what you buy as what he bought would of have to been oral or the one for sheep. I always buy mine from the vet. last year I bought some from a stall at one of our shields and I think it was watered down because my birds had lice after Kaz will tell you that  . So I threw that bottle away and went back to my vet and bought some good stuff. It is dearer at the vet but at least I am not wasteing my money on inferior products. I use cotton buds and find it mush easier to apply.

God No... Please Help
I agree with Kaz, I have saved my violet hen from certain 2 seasons ago and she is going fine now. I gave a course of antibotics straight into the crop and she went on to have more beautiful violet babies for me. But then I cropped needled my white df hen and it didn't worked But good luck with him
