  1. I have done something similar, I cut up an old cage to fit in my sliding part. It is exactly the same size as the sliding door, I just swap them over, works great.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum DaisyDeWoof.
  3. Gosh well done, I would of fainted I think, not really Geoff and I cut my hens eye that time remember, blood every where it was horrific but she is excellent now. But we didn't need to stitch thank god. I think if I had too I would do it too. Df spangle is nice but he does look worse for his tear as the saying goes, hope he comes in to condition for you soon GB as you have had him for a while. But saying that last JULY/AUGUST I bought 2 birds from a breeder and paid a fair amount of money for them, (a fair amount in my books as you know I do not spend a lot but I don't have it to spend anyway. And plus I like to breed my own good birds). But anyway that hen has had a blue cere since I got her and about a month ago her breast plate was razor sharp and I am thinking what a rip off BUT I am pleased to say in the last 2 weeks her cere has gone brown and she has meat on her breast plate. so I am now happy.
  4. That's what i was going to suggest Kaz, put mouse proof wire of bottom of cage and lay a good quantity of sand and later when settled concrete the floor. That is how mine have been done. Never had a mouse in them or sick birds.

Hey need to stick up for the poor blondes.... I am saying that the some of the ones that dye there hair blonde are much dumber that some of the true blondes and they are the ones that give blondes a bad name. I am not being serious here just having an opinion....
  6. Very Nice birds Gb, wow you saved that hen, amazing.
  7. Good on you, the bloodline sounds good. Good luck with him. He doesn't look a big bird, is he or is he small but typey. pics can be deceiving . Take that back he has big feet, so he could be big. Just have to wait for new photos.

    Thanks GB
  9. Nice birds and lovely set up

Not commenting.... I am blonde..... I think they should have some brunette jokes too because I find they dye their hair blonde and they are the dumbest of all.
  11. What's his breeding Gb, only if you want to tell me, don't mind if you don't. But really would like to see picture of him when he is himself.lol
  12. What size is you (shed) bird room/ aviary GB, is 3m x3m . Love the pop out idea too.
  13. That is what I was going to say Gb, wait for a nice day and take a nice photo of him because we can't judge him like that. But as Dave says his mask is long and has nice spots but he looks very weird and leggy and that would be because of the heat and he is trying to cool himself down, and you said he has feathers missing too.

They are beauties Phill, I would like them in my aviary.
  15. There is wire behind mine which will be annoying because it will collect feathers and spider webs, I think. But I have the tin off the ground slightly so when I wash them out the water still flows out. But still it will be much harder for mice to get in, I have never seen one in there or any sign of them, but you never know. We were going to do the door but Geoff seems to think there is no need.I can always put some more clear PCV on the bottom. The winter stuff is still on the top half.
  16. Thanks Gb, Yes it really looks good, Greg commented today on it again so at least he is happy with it. He said it is a lot of stress off his shoulders, worrying about coming and finding Jake has ripped the wire open and kill my birds. Mind Jake doesn't even worry about the birds at all but you never know when he is on his own and bored. But I am pleased that he can't pee in there now. He still squats but the day will come when he starts leaving his mark everywhere. YUK hate boy dogs for that reason.
  17. Yesterday Clearwing (Geoff) came for a drive and bought some tin to put in front of my aviaries to stop Jake peeing all over them, he hasn't started yet but he will soon, so we just got in first. I actually love the fronts being covered in like this, it is much better, Greg likes it too he said Geoff did a good job. Going o change the colour of the shade cloth to match the cream on the tin. Greg's idea so he is paying. lol. We haven't finished yet I need to get a small piece to go on the side, it has to match the tin that was already there, so we have tacked the side bits on until I can get some. I think the birds love it too, I think they feel more secure and safe now and haven't got this big dog staring at them all the time. I have decided to put a small veranda in along the from too, hopefully will keep some rain out. pics.
  18. I have the red millet mixed in my seed Phill and I am giving them Jap millet seperate and boy do they love it. It has cut back how fast I go threw my seed. I was going to buy a bag of red millet, still might.

I mean around the outside of the aviary. I would do what Kaz and Gb says because also the breeding pair can not relax when other birds are hanging on the front of their breeding cage, they would think it is a threat.
  20. splat replied to Maddy's topic in Aviaries
It looks great, well done I think you have done a great job. Seems you have already laid the floor, you could put wire around the aviary underground a 6 inches or so and Straight down in the ground not layed on top, which might deter them. I have done that before I cemented mine. Never had a mouse in them.
  21. Sorry Kaz, I thought you moved over Christmas. So you are in limbo at the moment then. I bet you can't wait until all moved in. Is Ken keeping his job or Transferring or is he retiring?
  22. Good luck with it all Kaz, At least you have the garage to breed in. Did you have to do a big cull to move or did you take them all with you.
  23. Greg use to have a small one, a ozito and it was light, I had a go one day but it jumped and caught on the wood and frightened the **** out of me. He now has a GMC I think and it is very heavy, too heavy for me. Yes I would love a table saw. Had my eye on a work station thing that has a circular saw under and I now wished that I had bought it, it was second hand. But at least my wood would be cut straight and I could do it myself. Geoff and I have put off the timber for the wall until next fortnight. So i guess I will get stuck into painting the ceiling.

Hi Phil, just dropping in to see how Jaws is going, love to see an update photo. Cheers.
  25. Went shopping for timber for walls today but no luck, will try again tomorrow, I am getting really keen now. Clearwing has offered to bring it from Shepparton to here once we purchase some and help me put it on as it is far to heavy for little old me to lift and I am really scared of using a circlar saw. I am a jig saw and a mitre saw girl. Today I started gap filling all my gaps. Going to start painting the ceiling in the next few days. Really getting excited as things are moving a bit now.
