Looks like you could be right Kaz, about it being a TCB. I think their skin colour is lighter.

New Budgies In Quarantine
In repose to your message Dave, your bird is a Normal TCB, the faded flights is one of their main characteristics, together with the faded body colour, thanks for the honour [i hope] of naming him after me…years ago I had a calf named after me, now a Budgie. I like your other new birds too. I know you say you don’t like Opalines, but Opaline Spangles like Boof are a pretty nice Mutations I think.

Got Conned By A Petshop.....grrrr
My theroy is that your birds cere is still pinkish, because of the amount of Pied in your bird, it's not a Recessive Pied but if it was, their cere will remain Pink all their life. My idea is that even though it doesn't show Pied on it's face, if a bird is Pied & some area of Pied occurs where the cere is, it will remain with less colour. Sorry I don't agree with Elly that your bird is as young as she says, it's definitely older as others have said. You will have to wait for some other forum members in the Adelaide area to get in contact, about breeders in that area.

My New Blue Dominant Pied Cock Bird
Nice looking bird HarlequinLover, good luck with breeding, sounds like it’s already off to a good start.

Some Tcb Pics:
My favourites Dave are Cinnamon Sky Blue & Cinnamon Grey. Yeah the TCB Clearwing wouldn't be worth the effort, already quite a few completely Yellow birds. Even though some of the combinations wouldn't be showable, that doesn't stop you breeding them to enjoy the different combinations. Sadley the Anthracite is pretty rare even overseas & as far as I know not present in Australia, but someone could get the Mutation at some time, or import it Thanks Elly.

Some Tcb Pics:
Dave these TCB's are only Opalines because the guy I bought them off & myself like Opalines. I think you could breed them in most Mutations, but I think mostly for showing they have only Normal or Opalines or maybe only the one class, so that's what most breed to win. I'm thinking next year to try breeding them in other colours like Cinnamon, I think I have a couple already, I think I read somewhere you can't show them, well I guess you could show them, but they would be up against Normals & probably wouldn't win. I think something like a Spangle TCB could look nice. Here's a couple of Normals & also Cinnamon, the young bird is from the cock.

Sherbet And A New Friend?
Your new Budgie looks cute, he must be quite young if you have him sitting on your finger already...good luck with him.

Got Conned By A Petshop.....grrrr
Jason, they were right in telling you that some of the English type Budgie don’t have much barring on their forehead even when they are babies, compared to other types. But like others have told you, your bird is already had it’s first moult & is at least 6 month probably a little older.
-
What Colour Is This Baby Budgie?
Your bird is very heavily Pied so it’s hard to tell much more about it’s mutation, but it is a Blue series bird, maybe Mauve. It’s wings may have been cut, but it looks a little like it’s what they call a “Runner” a bird that has suffered from French Moult, Polyoma virus, that’s why it was running on the floor. Apart from that it looks healthy. It’s wing flight feathers look to be growing back, so it may recover all right. Sadly lots of people let their heart judge their purchases, whereas picking a bird that looks sad, fluffed up, quite etc can be a disaster…that’s when you should be looking for the most alert, active, healthy looking birds, as you can easily bring home someone else’s problems & spread it to any other birds you may have, even when doing the best to pick the best there, is still a risk of disease.

Some Tcb Pics:
Thanks guys & thanks Birdluv, I guess I should always put it in full at least once for those new to the forum…sorry Texas Clear Body…Lazy Norm …(Laughing out loud)… Yes Kaz I guess I will have to just be patient until it moults it’s flight feathers & if they come back dark…bad luck…might turn out a nice bird anyway.

Some Tcb Pics:
A picture of the new possible Cinnamon Grey TCB I bought, as requested by Kaz, not sure it is one, but bought on the hope that it is. Sorry not a great picture the flash took lots of details out. As I said not a great picture, maybe it's flight feathers are just faded for some reason & will moult out darker Cinnamon. What do you think? Some random pictures of some of my other TCB’s now flying in the aviary. All pictures of the same two birds, both hens. The Green through the wings is a show fault, some may moult out or intensify, only time will tell.

What Could I Get From Them?
Elly is right you can have an Opaline Clearwing...the Mutation Known as Rainbow is a YF2 Opaline Clearwing. Also Nerwin is right about DEC you need two Recessive Pied genes combined with the Clearflight gene.

Worming Budgies Question
Sorry to hear of your loss, but I agree with Kaz, once you said how your bird was, I too also thought it was too late, as once birds get that ill the chances of them recovering are very slight. Make sure you disinfect your cage & then leave it out in the sun for a day or so, before you get a new bird, as what it had may be infectious.

A New Mutation "dusk".
I spoke to the guy that I bought them from Ravengypsy & he seems pretty cluey on genetics & he said they are Dominant & Slates are Sexlinked, so they must be a different Mutation.. I mated the one that I think was the best looking to a hen in an aviary where I was breeding two pair, sadly the first batch was all clear & the hen had produced fertile eggs before, she went down again & so far one chick has hatched, but I wonder if it’s from the Dusk, as I saw him driving a young male in the aviary away from her when she came out of the nest, I will have to remove him. I will await hopefully that the chick is from the Dusk.

My New Baby
I have notice that he "pet" Australian type Budgie tends to have better clear base colour triangles between the wing butts, but in general the British "show type" Budgies have lots of strong baring…selection for this trait must not have been so strict. I agree , the early breeders of the opaline have let this variety down , unfortunatly the opaline is used more for its size and spot abillities in normals and the loss of the clear v in the back is all but gone. How beautiful would this variety be in the full show standard form . Especially in the violet cobalt or violet green I would love to see one . Yes I agree, it sounds like the Opaline isn’t a popular Mutation these days, but they are one of my favourites.

Fallow Bred To Recessive Pied Gives What?
Yes Libby that’s what I would be doing…I like those Yellow birds with dark markings. Do you have another Green Fallow that you can breed her to, to get more Yellows? I bought one recently that has Normal markings & is Pied also, but nice Yellow with Brown markings. I can’t wait to breed it.
