One Of My Show Type Birds:
Sorry Libby I misled you the other day, yesterday I was watching my birds & I realised which one that bird was & it is in fact a Yellow Face. [Not a dirty face or maybe both]. In my other post of YF’s, this fact that, that Pied cock & the YF Violet hen at the beginning of this post, both have the cream type faces & that seems to be washed out by the flash, but the others in my other post asking if they are Golden Faces, the Yellow stays in, of course the Yellow is more a Buttercup colour & stronger, but maybe this shows that the colour is different in some way. Deb I was hoping someone else would answer that question, I have never watched that close to know exactly how long it takes. Budgies seem to be replacing feathers almost all the time. If you remove a large feather for any reason it will be replaced in about two weeks. It also seems to me that young birds vary in when they start their first adult moult, as I have families that start quite young & are finished in a short time while other families are much later, in starting. I think the main part of the moult takes a few weeks, but they probably still are replacing some body feathers much longer.

Goliath And Sootica And Micky And Softy
Nice chicks Kaz, I have a lot now of that colour. I bought that cock the YF2 Blue Spangle that was one of the first birds I asked about what mutation it was on this forum, when I joined, as I like the colour, they almost look like Rainbows. Well now I have lots of them from that cock & his line & others I bred, but I have made a personal preference to keep the Pied out of my Spangles, so I don’t loose the wing pattern. That Opaline has nice strong markings, but once you get the marking that good it’s hard to keep it out of the triangle isn’t it.

Curry And The Showgirl
They look like they were looked after real well Kaz, pity the flash washed it out a bit, can’t see the TCB that well. The must be getting spoilt, as most of mine, of the larger size ones, would have left the nest by that stage.

Yellow Face Or Golden Face:
That's what I used to think Libby, that the different intensities were just variation, as you see in just about any colour & I thought you should just select for the strongest colour to improve your birds. Then I read that you shouldn't mix the two, as they are separate mutations. Then through reading I get the idea that really you shouldn't mate YF to YF as then at least you get double Factor YF which turns out with White Faces, so that's another complication it seems. So the idea I have now [if it's right] is to mate YF Blue to White Faced Blue, but then there is the problem it seems to me that, that makes it harder to improve the YF. Whereas if you mated the best YF to YF you are selecting for improvement of the depth of the YF. Correct me if I have got the wrong idea anyone. Try this site Libby. http://www.al-nasser.co.uk/

Do you think these birds are just Yellow Faces or are they Golden Faces or something else?

My Breeding Room
Looks a great set-up Lonebudgie, interesting idea with the cardboard. They sound keen, I have been mating different pairs basically all year & the last few months lots of the new pairs don’t seem interested, some hens have never even entered the boxes. Don’t know why.

Help, Have Eggs And No Nesting Box
Welcome Linda, as others have said just leave it & see what happens, she may leave them at some stage, but I have had Cockatiels lay on the floor & raise young without a box. If she leaves & you want to breed get a box for the next time, as it’s more normal…laying on the floor is desperation.

The Start Of A Birdie Bread Cake
:hap: You would be right with the aviary birds, they get the usual seed, water, veggies, etc. The indoor guys are pampered little princes and princess's though. I can't say i would want it as my cake either. When dad saw them he thought i was making bubble and squeak. Good thing he didn't sample one. I know why...they look too healthy for you guys.Yeah, where's all the chocolate and cream pouring out the sides. Exactly!!! See I know you girls.

The Start Of A Birdie Bread Cake
Some birds get spoilt rotten. I must remember to never buy any birds from you Bea; otherwise I will have a riot on my hands if they talk to my birds & I’ll be getting demands for extra conditions.

What Would This Color Be?
Great young birds Sandy, you did better than me in getting the Violet to show out anyway. Those Yellow Faces have such nice dark faces, I have some like that I want to ask about it, I’m wondering if they are Golden Faces instead of Yellow faces, as I have some Yellow Faces where the Yellow is a light Cream rather than Butter cup Yellow. I heard some show breeders talking about Cream faces too, so maybe there’s a few different types. Also I had a nice big show type hen that would get full batches of fertile eggs, but after the first two had hatched she wouldn’t feed any others, after I realised it, I fostered out the youngest to other pairs. I agree with you it’s points against them & I wont breed from her again & will watch her daughters, so far they haven’t been that keen to breed. Re them laying before the last chicks leave, I have that problem all the time, if you don’t have fosters where you can accommodate them, sadly you will just have to take them away, as that’s all you can do. You don't need to shake them they will die from cold.

Just An Italian Amateur
Sandman, if I were you I would make separate entries from your original photos in photobucket so that it doesn’t effect your other forums. You could just post links to the ones you already have, but people on slow connection may not look at them.

Thanks Kaz, yes they are a nice colour...re sponsoring is that very expensive? Thanks Elly. This hen was bred from a Yellow Faced Opaline Sky Blue hen & a Spangle Violet cock, they had YF Violet & Sky Blue Normals & YF Violet Spangles, the Normals all look better than the Spangles, the Spangles seem to be later at moulting also. I noticed with some pairs that one particular colour out of them always seems better [show wise] than the other young. Like one pair where the cock is split Cinnamon I have produces a lot of nice Cinnamon hens, much better than the cocks from the same pair.

One Of My Show Type Birds:
I had some time to take some pictures of some of my young birds that are finishing their first moult today, but as soon as I started the battery went flat, so only two pictures of the one bird, more later. It's supposed to be a Yellow Face2 Violet, but with the flash you wouldn't know it. It's a hen bird if you can't see the Brown cere clearly. I think she is developing nicely, but I don't know if you can tell from these photos. Sadly I can't take pictures without flash as the roof is compelety enclosed, so insufficeint light.

Dusk Budgies:
With the first of my Dusk cocks that I paired up, the first batch of eggs were all infertile. They are breeding in an aviary with another pair. On the second batch one egg hatched early & then nothing else hatched until last week out of 8 eggs, when one of the last ones hatched, I was worried she may have mated with a young cock from a previous nest, I have now removed him. I’m now getting more confident that they may be the Dusks babies, as the first one is getting feathers & they are a very Dark Blue series, which might turn out a Blue Dusk. Why I’m more confident now is that the last baby to hatch appears to be a Lutino. This Dusk cock is split Blue & Lutino. He is mated with a Cinnamon Violet hen. His fertility might be getting low, as he was born June 2003. If it turns out a Dusk I will be happy, as even if I get one or two out of birds I have bought, I’m not so worried. It’s when you get nothing & I’ve had plenty of those, it’s disappointing. Photos later if it turns out okay. The other Dusk [a bit younger] is mated to a Light Green Normal hen, whose on eggs, in a cabinet, they look hopeful as well.
