  2. Fingers crossed and good luck with the little one- it looks rec pied?
  3. My babies eyes dont open for over a week either. I might take a few pics of a baby I have in the nest now- if they come out okay I'll try to document it. Remind me!!
  4. You can usually feel their chest area when they are thin the bone that runs down the middle is more prominent. Mashed boiled egg, oats- soaked, and if she is on the nest and not being fed enough put a sprig of millet in the nest or attach it to the outside of the nest (can you get the millet over there?) that way she can eat without having to leave the nest. They will lose a bit of weight- usually the 'puppy fat' they carry in the aviary- when they have a clutch but too much can cause big problems, and if not caught soon enough she will starve herself.
  5. Had alot of wild budgies out where I was working a few months ago- they dont sit still long enough to get a picture of but! Heres a photo I took a while back of little pet type babies with my show baby, there was only about a month difference in age.
  6. Oh Merlin Darlin... still looking spunky as ever. Love the bottom picture, he will be fat in no time!!
  7. Definately not a greywing.
  8. yeah he's the one that was rung at 4 days- and his feet are in propotion to his body. Big chick!... and I only rung it once- no having to find it in the box the next day, actually it was a tight fit wouldnt have wanted to wait another day. Fingers crossed. Haha Elly- there are some big moulters there just no pics of them, some of my new birds were starting a big moult when I got them so still some spikers there and alot of my hens are just starting too. Just got a few pics out of each aviary today- have my pet aviary and my 'good' aviary!! (If you have a look at the young grey behind the grey and the violet he is having his first big moult
  9. Some nice birds there Kaz, like the spangle very nice.
  10. Took some more pics- I'm bored! The weather had a cold turn last night so they're a bit fluffy today. Grey fella is 02 rung- with his violet girlfriend- bit scruffy these days Pegleg: Like father like son: Like father like son again!!: Few of the babies (just moulting out now) babies 6, 4, 2 days old
  11. Micko and Shazza!
  12. respiratory infection and what I'm about to say are totally different and I'm no vet- but I have had a bird with what I thought was a res. problem, trouble breathing/wheezing, tail bobbing, fluffed it turned out to be an iodine deficiency cured with a drop or 2 of betadine/iodine in his drinking water. In saying that I do think your friends bird needs to see the vet again he doesnt sound good- maybe a different antibiotic, what is he on at the moment?
  13. I was going to say maybe you had happened to check the chick just before feeding time for it. If you are worried its empty check again within half hour, then an hour. A small chick can be fed and empty again within the time you specified.
  14. Which birds do you prefer? I think this determines which way you will go- whether you like breeding for colours or breeding for a certain type. Money, time, space and numbers of birds you can keep are different factors also. You will be welcome to contact a club near you, go to a meeting/show and have a look at the birds and have a chat to the people. You will find both men and women and usually willing to help a newby out.
  15. which chick looks half sider? If you mean the one with a touch of blue through its chest- thats normal, it'll moult out. Most of my light greens do that
  16. cant see most of the pics to see mum and dad, but if they are all d.pied then either the odds are really in your favour or you have a double factor pied in the mix. I would have said dad was a green DF pied spangle. I'd like to know the mutations of the other birds that are in the aviary
  17. She's a cutey
  18. aaahhhh I love being miles away from everyone!! Well at least until the end of the year incase MB calls through Kal!!
  19. the pie replied to a post in a topic in Off Topic Chatter
Sorry to hear Daz. Have enjoyed your company and wisdom over the time I have been here. If you are ever over this way give me a call- you are more than welcome. Hope to see you around mate.
  20. is that the second chick in the second lot of pics? That is the one I'd have my eye on.
  21. Wow looking great. Love the light green (they're my favourites)
  22. haha yep, makes me wonder why i went and bought new birds for!! Its doubly exciting when they are coming out of birds you bred yourself. Cant wait to see what these new fellas will throw when the time comes. All settled in well, drove the other half mad the whole way home chirping
  23. Exciting times ahead- good luck
  24. You know a few times this week Ive looked at a bird in my aviary thinking- where did that bird come from, when in reality its one of my babies going through its first moult. Ive just been out standing in my aviary in the dark with a torch ( I was packing the ferrets up and thought Id check on the birds) this is the best time for me to assess what I have as they sit still for me to stare at for an extended period of time! I had 2 little piddly babies that I didnt think would amount to much but just starting their first moult I have a green spangle just starting to throw out an extended mask and thicken-up body wise, and what I thought was an older blue hen floating around in there is actually a cock! (where did I get a blue cock from?) oh its the little fella I saved a few months ago just finishing up getting his new feathers (the hen was put into the breeding cage by my 'bird babysitter' while I was away ) Am looking forward to the next few months as I have babies with alot more potential due for their first moults too. After watching your babies feather up for the first time this would have to be the next most exciting thing- seeing what they will be turning into sorry had to share this moment haha. It must mean things are going well though.
