Problem Wiht Female
Male budgies are sexually mature at around 8 weeks old, they are not physically mature until at least 15-18 months old. If he does manage to mate the hen & she has eggs, do not allow him to raise any babies as he will just be too daft. My Toy Boy was 6 months old when Mrs Robinson coaxed him to mate her - I have not left any babies for him to raise as he is too immature.

I Got A Couple Of Questions?
Sounds like she is building her strength up for laying of eggs! :nest: It isn't that everyone is smart, it is experience - intelligence has nothing to do with it (just ask my family!)

My New Aviary
I know I'm a bit late! Been really busy. Here is the aviary I got off eBay thanks to budgiebird! There are Kakariki only in the pictures but since I took them I have put 8 budgies (6 siblings that just fledged) in there too as they missed them.

Happy & His Girl - New Pic From 3-6-06
Taken this afternoon, it looks like all 4 babies are going to look like their dad. They are all very quiet babies too which is a refreshing change. Dad even ate apple from my fingers today! That is great progress as he used to freak & fly really fast away whenever I went near.

Patches Is Sitting On 8 Eggs!
I hope the egg hatches! There is something special about lorikeets, they make fantastic pets. I had a Rainbow Lorikeet since she was 8 weeks old, she was the most insane bird. We all loved her to bits. They are alot noisier than budgies but not overly so. Mine used to abuse me when I took her tray out to clean. She was fully flighted but had no interest in flying as she had slaves to carry her everywhere!

Jnr Boss Is A Bully
This is Boris' father Jnr Boss. He has increased his efforts to be noticed whenever anyone is near the aviary as he loves to give a kiss - just before trying to take a piece out of your lip! :budgiedance: Anyway I was taking photo's of a pair of Kakariki I'm hoping will bond for future breeding (they are only young yet) & Jnr Boss gatecrashed the photo shoot. Here he is showing how handsome he is: I was oohing over how sweet he was talking to Donny (the male) & Brook (the female) when he reached into the bowl and pulled poor Donny out by the head!! Poor Donny was crying in terror & Jnr Boss just reefed him out of the bowl and threw him over the side! I was stunned and didn't get a photo of the bully in action, here I think he looks rather pleased with himself for what he did:

Blue Budgies Surprise! New Pics 13/5
She was the only one to hatch. Rainbow she is every bit as soft & fluffy as she looks :ausb: I am so glad I have her, she is like a magical gift that just appeared in that nest box. Her mum still dotes on her. Preens her about every 15 minutes & doesn't like it when she can't see what she's up to & calls out for her. :budgiedance: *sets up infra-red security system*

I put them straight in as I trust your aviary. See? She didn't take long to hook up, I think they've done the naughty already! (can't remember the names of the one's I got from you).

The Ants Are Here
1) Sprinkle Ant Dust to within 3 feet of the cages - this will kill all ants that come into contact with it but far enough away from the cages that it won't affect them. 2) Ant Rid - put it in the ants path & they take it back to the nest & it kills any ants that eat it. Both products are available from Woolworths, K-mart, Target, nurseries etc.

Question/advice Please
I have never come across this & quite honestly don't know what to do. This hen refuses point blank to enter a nest box. I properly bonded her & her mate prior to placing the box in. All she is interested in doing is eating the rear of the nest box & will do this for up to 6 hours a day. She is at least 1 year old & likes her mate & is in condition. What can I do? I'm at a loss. I've tried finding avian viagra for my Kakariki but no luck so that's out!
