  1. All the birds are gorgeous! Adults & babies alike!!
  2. Got any updated pictures for us?
  3. I'm almost afraid to go to bed. It's midnight now & s/he is still going. I just finished giving Twerp a feed which s/he did not want! I got about a third of a teaspoon of weetbix & Roudybush mixture down. If by some miracle this baby survives it's going to be really sooky I reckon.
  4. Twerp is fading fast, I don't expect him/her to be alive in the morning. S/he has eaten hardly anything all day so I've resorted to syringe feeding. It appears that shock is setting in.
  5. We have our first hatchling! Funny thing about motherhood. This hen is a viscous so & so & yesterday when I took the box down, she climbed out (see her tail?) and sat on the side and nibbled my hand!! A month ago she would have ripped the skin off! Photo taken yesterday 3rd November:
  6. Well I'm handraising Twerp because of parental abuse. The other lutino I found dead in the nest box - squashed under the other babies not attacked. Now I'm sure on the Mothers side 2 generations back there is no blue gene. On the fathers side there is no blue gene back 3 generations. 1 green & 1 that looks more Teal in person than sky:
  7. Eldest baby (bites!): Youngest baby (doesn't bite, yet!):
  8. Little one is looking good! I think this little one is a girl.
  9. If you are really trying to decide which one only to keep . . . how about: eenie meenie minie mo? :(Laughing out loud):
  10. My fingers are crossed for you!
  11. Twerp is still doing fine this morning. Had it's first feed of the morning and seemed more interested in playing in the food than eating it. S/he is very adventuresome too, I opened the lid to check on him/her & walked into the kitchen to prepare it's food. I heard a scrabbling sound turned around and it had climbed out of the box and was perching on the edge! Needless to say I raced back in and locked the box so I could prepare breakfast. His/her eyes appear fine, I think the area just above is a bit swollen from the beating & this is making it squint. I'll keep up the updates.
  12. Went out to give the birds some apple this morning and one of Jnr Boss' babies was out of the nest box on the floor with most of it's head feathers plucked & missing alot of skin. I couldn't tell which parent did it as they both had clean faces so I removed the baby for clean up and handraising. Mum cleaned up the baby while I held it and stroked it's belly & beak. This is the little one getting some food which it wolfed down: Settling into it's bed: I think prognosis is good for survival as it has a strong set of lungs & plenty of energy. My mum has christened her/him Twerp.
  13. She is a white lacewing. :hap: My parents complain that I take too long each Saturday morning feeding them. What should only take me an hour to supply fresh water, seed & vegies usually takes me 4+ because I spend so much time watching and talking to them. The Hen has started sitting in the box - which is good because I gave her an egg to foster.
  14. What a handsome boy :hap: and doesn't he know it!
  15. That is a gorgeous picture! Worth framing! Should win picture of the month! :hap:
  16. Ozzie is such a studly looking boy!! :hap:
  17. The lady had a choice none of us ever wish to have to make. Her husbands health or her birds. You see he's developed 'Breeders Lung' and can't be around birds anymore. :hap:
  18. She did but she got into a fight & had a very bloody toe so I brought her inside to nurse her back to health. My family was so happy to have her inside again & this time so was Boris so here she has stayed. :hap:
  19. He is my newest house budgie (yes! my father finally allowed 2 budgies inside!). I'll tell you the whole story. I've seen an ad on Petlink for quite sometime for show quality budgies for sale, I have been preoccupied with my other parrot purchases lately that I didn't give it much thought. When I was looking in the aviary to see who was pairing up I noticed I was at least 6 Budgie hens short. Next time saw the ad I responded and on Sunday I went for a look hoping to by up to 5 or 6 (maybe 7). I came home with 14!!!! One I came home with was the lady's personal pet Chirpy. She was very happy for him to go home with someone who'd love him the same way she has and to give him the free flight time & human contact he was used to. I promised that would happen. My mother convinced my father who said "he can stay if it's okay with Boris". We need'nt have worried, soon as I put him in her cage she went straight up to him & did everything except offer herself to him! :hap: Do not be concerned, I saw the set up and the birds were in beautiful condition. The unwell bird was more than the quarantine standard of 4 metres away from the others. So I had no worries about introducing Chirpy to Boris straight away. My mother did a very special thing too. She adopted a bird from the lady. The budgie hen was hatched with both legs splayed. The lady was a novice at that stage and couldn't correct it so raised it like any other budgie. The hen is not used to any special treatment so will be going into the aviary with the others. She manages to lay on the perches and can climb. Mum has named her Opal. Chirpy: Boris loves him already: Boris has taken it upon herself to feed him when they are out of the cage: This is Opal, it's how she 'sits' on a perch: I'll post the pics of the other birds in the Mutation section to help with identification - I was told what they were but these things go in one ear and out the other if they aren't written down.
  20. How old is Layla? she looks like she'll still be too young in Spring. What season are you in now? Autumn (fall)? She is very pretty. :ausb:
  21. Karen those Princess Parrots are absolutely gorgeous! I'd love a pair of those! :ausb:
  22. Red Rump sizes vary, just like Budgie sizes vary. I guess you could say that on average they are 1.5 - 2 times the size of a Budgie.
  23. Only 1 this round. But s/he is happy & healthy and that's all that matters. She is as lovely as ever. How many babies have you bred from her?
  24. Yeah, I figured they were girls because the daddy is cinnamon - and the oldest bites!
  25. The markings are known as Cinnamon (brown).
