  1. Baby is doing well, I am a little worried as when I check it the crop is never full - it does have food in it though. It could well be that I just check before feed time but I am still keeping an eye on it. The little baby looks like it is going to be a Sky Blue Cinnamon Spangle - half brother/sister to That Boy and Jazz.
  2. I was given this little boy yesterday from a friend as I have experience with beak problems and I gave my word I'd look after him. I don't mind, I've adopted a few 'special birds' in my time. My mum named him Blue Boy after a Jim Reeves song. He really is a lovely little fellow and very friendly too. This is the picture I took when I got him home: After a couple of hours' rest time I gave him a light trim & took about 4mm off, he was rather good:
  3. I knew the egg. The fostered egg was larger than the other eggs.
  4. Your explanation is sound Lovey.
  5. I vow to be the first to breed a white faced green!
  6. Checked them today as I'm worried with the extreme heat we've been having. They are all okay. Their colour is darkening so they might not be violet after all.
  7. 42 degree's celcius here today. I'm afraid the ino baby didn't survive. :offtopic:
  8. Their eggs appeared clear. Just as well I don't throw the eggs out straight away!
  9. One of the babies died. All 3 are definately purple birds. The picture shows them as cobalt, they are not cobalt! This is the eldest baby:
  10. There are now 2 babies! 1 is an ino. I really didn't expect one of theirs to be fertile!
  11. The eldest bub died yesterday. It appeared she flew into the wall and broke her neck.
  12. I was told once that a gray budgie paired to a lutino would help with injecting new genes to help with size etc. Is this right or is did I miss hear the ino?
  13. Great closeups! :(Laughing out loud): I think a girl too.
  14. I have my notebook ready (Laughing out loud) I may get converted into showing one day!
  15. What about breeding a violet to a lutino? What will that do to a lutino's colour? Do we have a colour chart on this site so that we know exactly what green to breed? I would have thought that a green would enhance the sheen on a lutino? Can you explain how the greens keep the green sheen from appearing in the body colour? With grey to an albino, would that not make the white a more duller colour? Mate, there is so much to learn!
  16. Lutino cock too lacewing hen - any males will be split to lacewing. DEC to albino. dominant pied to recessive pied. That's just me though, I'm not really into genetics so that's the 6 I'd breed. With the cock who lost his mate, I got some wonderful advice from Bubbles. Find a hen that looks like the one that you lost - the male should accept her as his new mate. My spangle male accepted his new mate and now they have a baby!

Good advice there Shell. Spend time going over the many posts to decide if you even want to attempt budgie breeding. It is not a matter of putting in a box and giving extra vegies etc. If you don't want extra birds you'll have to find home for them. There is so much to learn. We are happy to help so any questions please feel free to post them here.
  18. I would remove the nesting box - I find that resolves any male dominance issues.
  19. That is a good idea, think I'll borrow that! :bluebudgie:
  20. At this stage I'm keeping them. Both of them are grey with cinnamon markings.
  21. Well Mumma Budgie's widower has certainly moved on! They are the proud parents of a little baby (I don't think it's theirs though - I fostered them an egg).
  22. The little girl is being chatted up already!
  23. All babies are well fed and growing! I believe that the eldest baby is a violet as it's pins certainly don't look blue. This is the eldest baby:
