The brooder is quite a simple item. I bought it off Ebay a few years ago. It is like one of those big plastic storage containers and has a light bulb attached to the inside of it with an electrical cord and plug. It has a smaller container inside it for the smaller chicks which can be removed as they become too big for it. It has a lid to keep the warmth inside. It has a digital thermomter on the outside so you can regulate the heat. It works very well and I have reared all different varieties of parrot chicks with it. Photos coming!

Well today is the first day of a very hectic few months for me! I have brought up to my brooder 3 baby cockatiels to handrear, and within another few days or so will have another 2 ready. Also very soon I will have 4 Princess Parrot chicks to rear as well and then last but definately not least my Major Mitchell chick which only hatched today but he wont be ready until another 3 weeks or so. So I will have to stock up on handrearing mix, syringes, etc etc etc!!! I will start a "photo album" here for you to see just how fast they grow! First picture will be of my 3 cockatiels but you'll have to wait till tomorrow for that!

I try and walk daily but it's hard to fit in on the days I work but when I'm not I walk at least for an hour and a half in the morning and sometimes then for another hour in the afternoon! What do you do to keep fit??

Unfortunately the other two eggs are empty, but one chicks better than none I guess!

I have just checked the eggs in the Major Mitchells nest one of the chicks is on his way out!! There is a crack about 2 cm long so by the morning he should be hatched!! :mallet: :question:

This is Buddy, he loves his little bed - sometimes he sleeps inside and then other nights he'll perch himself on top of it!! If she wants me to sleep in this thing, you'd think she'd turn the lights off!

Just a few nights ago I dreamed that Britt Lapthorpe, the young Aussie girl, who went missing in Croatia, had been found dead. This morning I wake up and go straight to the computer to visit BBC (as you do!) and the headlines read that she has been found and she is deceased. I feel so sad for her family, they have been going through such dispair. I hope now that they have some sort of closure.My thoughts and prayers are with them Britt

Thats funny you mention a "guardian angel". My sister went to a lady who does raki (I think its a bit like accupuncture ??) and also claims to have psychic abilities. She told my sister she had a guardian angel and her name is "Pearl". Well our grandmonther's name was Pearl. How amazing is that? When Lorraine told me I got goose bumps. She knew nothing about our family or our relatives names so to mention the name "Pearl" was too uncanny to be a coincidence, so Grandma must be my guardian angel as well!! :angel1: :angel1: Grandma!!!! Thats so wonderful and I do believe in these things too...BUT please ask Pearl if she can fit a return spring to your aviary doors Jenene Will do Kaz!

Apparently the door was open about 12 inches!!

Yesterday I did my daily check of all my birds and had been inside the budgies aviary to fill their seed dishes. I had been interrupted (I forget why) and had just closed their door and raced up to the house with full intentions of coming back after doing whatever it was I had to do I think you can all predict what happened. That's right! I forgot to go back and lock the door. I have been out all day today and got home about 4pm. Terry arrived home about 5, saw the birds cage door open and raced out of the ute to close it! I was so lucky that I didnt lose one bird. I'm very surprised my two mischievous cocker spaniel puppies didnt discover the door open and, well, we wont go there! Someone is looking down on me, thank God!

Most of them had already hatched by the time I got home, it was great to come home and see they were all well !! I couldnt wait to jump out of the car and race down to the cages and inspect the nests !!

Has anyone got any good tips on growing sprouts? I have tried it many times and dont have a lot of success

At last count I had 5 cockatiel chicks with one still to hatch and 3 Princess chicks with 2 yet to hatch! The Major Mitchell eggs should hatch in about 7 - 10 days !!!!

We stayed at the "Lyrebird Lodge" which is about 15 minutes from Tilba. Gorgeous place, I'll be going back !! I dont know if I'm allowed to put up their website here but I can PM it to you if you'd like it!

I did have an awesome time! It has done me the world of good! And to make it even better I came home to all my new chicks!!

I arrived back home at lunch time today from my holiday. We had a fantastic time and have taken a few pics for you to look at. Spent the first night at my sister's place.My brother in law with his son's dog asleep on the lounge!! Pelicans swimming by while we waited for our boat to take us whale watching One of the four whales we saw! It was amazing!!

Hi Guys!! Well I'm back from holidays and had a fantastic time!! (very exhausting though!) It was a 3 hour trip to Sydney and then the next day another 6 and a half hours ! We stayed in a lodge in the middle of a beautiful forest, it was an incredible feeling being the only people (4 of us) in amongst all the bird life, animals and the amazing trees. I have taken some pics but havent got the energy yet to put them on the forum - sorry I am sooo tired!! . Do you remember how I said before I left that when I get home I should have some new babies?? Well guess what? I have 5 cockatiel chicks with one more egg to hatch, and 1 Princess parrot chick (with about 5 more to hatch) Its great to be back I missed you all ! I have a lot of catching up to do!! Sorry I forgot to tell you my new pair of Lutino cockatiels have eggs but she has laid them in the feed bowl when she has a perfectly new nest box!

Thankyou so much everyone for voting for my babies! I never thought they'd win after seeing all the other cute photos!! They are two of my budgies that I have been taming for some friends. One of them - Pat is a member of this forum and has been patiently waiting for a green one so I took it down to Sydney last week when I went on holidays. He was thrilled with him so thats good. They always sat on the swing together of a night and looked soooo cute !! Thanks again everyone!!
