Half a day to a whole day in this weather.............less in summer.

Eggs
Show breeders often boil eggs and put them whole in an aviary with just a bit of the shell picked off for access to the egg. They eat the lot.

Is There A Problem With This Bird?
It looks normal. There is a health issue called hypertrophy of the cere that means the cere builds up and looks a whole lot larger than yours does but I dont think your bird has it. She isnt in breeding condition at the moment and doesnt seem to have scalyface mites although they may be beginning ( check the beak for roughness and minute tunnelling lines running through it. Give us a closer photo of cere.

Swapping Cock Bird Mid- Stream
I wouldnt ...............he isnt just an egg eater he's a fighter, a scrapper. I would sell him on with full disclosure as to his faults ( i.e. not as a breeder ).

Swapping Cock Bird Mid- Stream
Sounds like someone got rid of a problem cockbird to me As far as the hen continuing..she may or she may not....only time will tell and you will have to be observant ( which I know you will be ). In most cases of a new cock in the cage they abandon and start all over, but some will just continue.

Breeding In Wa
So, the timeline is................November you put them down to breed......say 1st November. Give them a week to ten days to first egg = 1 1/2 weeks add another ten days to produce 5 egg clutch ( approx) = 1 1/2 weeks incubation 18-21 days starting usually middle of egglaying = 3 wks Hatching to fledging = 4 to 6 wks so a total approximately of maybe 11 wks or so taking you into middle of January and breeding through the hot weather You need to plan now for relief from hot weather for any birds you will have breeding and hens and chicks in hot nestboxes.

How Did I Get Cobalt And Not Sky Blue?
The albino could even be a cobalt or violet recessive pied underneath. Patch on the back of the head CAN indicate split for recessive but many recessive splits dont have that spot either. Not one of them but both.

Max Number Of Budgies In Aviary
I wouldnt be putting 40-ish in there at all. 20 is the most I would put in there.....with no nestboxes.

My 2011 Breeding Journal
Fussycat brand is NOT the clumping variety so dont buy clumping as it has additives. Fussycat is natural.

What's On The Bottom Of Your Cage?
Not necessary......more petshop blurb selling shellgrit for budgie cages.....wont save seed....its going to land on the floor of the cage no matter whats down there.........and will NOT help sharpen toenails.....not that they need them sharpened anyway. Just another petshop employee selling a person something they dont need.

Hi All :o)
Perhaps you can use that cage as a quarantine cage ? Quarantine is essential when buying in new birds.
-
Hi All :o)
The sooner the boxes are out the better........like yesterday Any more than one pair with their own nestbox is still colony breeding and you will still have issues. Yes, by all means use that cage for breeding but only one pair. Make sure all birds where nestboxes are, are OVER 12 months, and retire females at 4 yrs. The presence of nestboxes force breeds them.

Hen Not Staying In Nest
Rarely this is one of those old wives tales many people say.................hens arent that smart. You would get the odd one or two who will throw out clear eggs after they have not developed but this is due to her sitting on them expecting a hatching and its gone past that date. Other hens will throw out perfectly good eggs with chicks in them. The Lion..........post a photo of your breeding set up please so we can assess. and how old is the hen ? How well is the hen ? A sick hen wont sit on her eggs and a sick hen wont raise chicks.

My Bird Cage Stand
Thats a very small cage for your budgie'.........rounded roofline also reduces usable size. You dont need sand perches either.......they are responsible for infections and foot conditions like bumblefoot

Little Help
I agree with Daz......both males
