Breeding Condition = Large Flaky Cere?
Is there any way to treat it? Other than treating its causes first by having the cause identified, no other treatment other than what you are already doing.......... http://www3.sympatico.ca/davehansen/obstruct.html

Breeding Condition = Large Flaky Cere?
She may have brown hypertrophy of the cere which is unrelated to being in breeding condition.

When To Stop Hand Feeding?
You can buy cheap small diet scales at most good stores. Also read this ......http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=22446 and another thing I do with fledged chicks that arent getting it yet about feeding...I put them in a small box like a show cage with a warm lamp up to it and seed underfoot. They peck around the ground at the seed and feed themselves. At the age yours is I would only give it a night feed ( between 4-5 pm ) and all day in a warm cage with seed underfoot and maybe another budgie youngster who will show how to eat the seed.

Fertile Eggs
Nathan .....................you have already asked the question about a Yellow budgie, and a Sky blue budgie here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=30996&st=0&p=367131entry367131 I am going to be real honest with you here Nathan. STOP what you are doing. I am sorry but you havent a clue. You say you threw out non fertile eggs yet you also admitted you really didnt know how to candle eggs properly or what to look for. Based on when you candled and how old you say eggs were chances are real high you threw out perfectly good eggs. You go out and buy a new bird and put it straight down to breed apparently as well. What ages are your budgies ? Show us your breeding cage so we can help you with advice...........how to post photos link in my signature. You have begun about four random topics along the same lines when you should just have one and keep adding to it by using the reply button. You dont answer or address many questions or suggestions put to you by members. I dont think you should be breeding yet Nathan and you have far too many gaps in your knowledge. You should be learning from us all here and now well before you go adding a nestbox. Sorry, but really......you need to stop and listen.

Fat Budgie
Take a good hard look at size of cage, whether or not its too crowded with perches and toys and not allowing flight. Post a photo so we can advise

Culling Budgies
Means to sell or separate out of the flock for sale ......not kill

Crying Baby
You are doing a great job I just thought I had better mention a little known fact. Older siblings do feed the younger ones in the nestbox to help the parents out. So, this baby begging food from older siblings is a normal thing. Babies in the nestbox at age 2 and a half weeks will feed their brothers and sisters.

I Have An Egg!
How old is your hen Kristy ?

Hen Behaviour
l hope when she is pregnant, seems like stupid question but is there a size change in the hen? Budgies do not have "pregnancies" . One egg at a time a time is formed and travels down the oviduct to be laid. The only signs you will see is an egg sized lump at the vent ( bottom ) within a day of being ready to be laid. They dont store eggs in their body therefore do not have an enlarged body in any way other than the egg showing at the vent just before being laid. They also do very large poops while egglaying.

Hen Behaviour
She is staying in the nestbox because she is about to lay an egg

I Have An Egg!
It is a quail egg.....we have quails. Usually they lay eggs all over the place and when they have the right number ( ours like to have 8 ) they roll them together into a nesting spot and sit on them Its easy to tell the difference between a male and female quail as a male has markings called a bib on its head ( around throat area ) . Budgies dont have pregnancies...they just form one egg at a time and send it out. Your hen may be eggbound, so she needs warmth and calcium, and a vet if you arent confident about treating her as they can die quickly from eggbinding. Runny poo is normal for egglaying but dark isnt. She may need to go to an avian vet.

Pink Budgie Nest Renovations
Well done Maddy !!!! You are always on the improve for your birds....great job. You made me laugh about the spider dance....I laughed so hard I nearly choked LMAO. About the spider spray..............avian insecticidal liquidator which is safe for birds and can treat feather mites and other things like red mite infestations, also works for spiders and cockroaches etc. Try having some of that on hand instead of surface sprays. Cant wait to see more photos

I Have An Egg!
A newly laid egg wont show as being fertile yet anyway. It needs to be around 5-6 days old. BUT also no newly laid egg needs to be kept warm. The budgie Mums dont usually incubate till they have 3 or 4 eggs. Eggs can be put aside and kept non incubated for a week to ten days or so with no harm done. Take note Taylor and Pride
