okay, I will go on the record and explain that I really DON'T want him to be a Feather Duster despite the indications. So that means that I will be the last person on this planet to accept it. So he has really long feathers but is NOT hungry all the time and does not have a croaky voice. But I'll keep taking photos and we shall see with time. Renee........I once had a recessive pied that startted out looking like a feather duster and even the experts thought she was. BUT she grew into her feathers and was normal after all. I will look for photos for you Here she is........ Later on went on to win Best Danish Pied In show fairly often and she has been breeding for me.

With birds other than budgies in the past I have splinted using gauze wrapped matchsticks and elastoplast over top .........gauze wrapped so the elastoplast can be removed in the future without undoing all the work.
  12. I disagree. Its hugely risky to use a hen past the age of four years........... incidence of eggbinding and prolapse would be extremely high.
  13. Not scaly face in my opinion also
  14. Many many thanks for your help .....much appreciated

He's looking well Renee........congratulations on getting him over the hump I think you could be right about him being a feather duster too. Check his tail feathers and see if he has four all the same length. Does he have a different "voice" ?
  16. If she is underaged she should NOT be in an aviary where there is nestboxes. It encourages underaged breeding.
  17. As I said to you on yahoo answers, before I got you to come here, Kiwi has more going on about the feather issue. Cannot be plucking as there are feathers missing from places Kiwi cannot possibly remove them. Was the vet a bird vet ? An Avian vet ? because the advice you have got doesnt sound quite right. And as kiwi also has issues with overgrown beak, its possible that combined with the feather loss indicates PBFD or beak and feather disease. Since kiwi was a FOUND budgie its quite likely it was released due to an issue a previous owner did not want to deal with. If it has beak and feather then its contagious and your other budgie could catch it too.
  18. Good to see you here Kaz aka moggie

I agree. I have also just begun to feed whole oats to the birds in the aviary instead of hulled oats. There is more nutritional value in whole oats.
  20. If you can source Golden Cob budgie breeder supreme mix its very good. Also budgies eat ALL of good quality finch mix as well...leave nothing behind.
  21. Plain brand or no name brand seed always has filler seed so dont buy cheap brands.
