Help
Coccidiosis comes to mind due to the wet aviary floor........it will kill them in no time if it isnt noticed that they arent well. They can go to ground within hours once cocci is at work anhd dead in as manyb hours again. As Renee says the nibbling is from the other budgies as they do that sort of thing.

How Long?
3-4 weeks is it for me too, but sometimes I have changed the cage location and the whole mood changes and I get results.

What Colour Chicks?
Nestbox lower is not their ideal placement for a nest. Best to attach high up, outside, with access from within. Sometimes this means cutting a couple of the cage bars for access. You can patch it later with a piece of aviary wire. Make sure the cage is big enough for a family and for flying around in displays of mating behaviour. Letting them out while breeding may be a distraction that causes you problems further down the track. Suggest once breeding leave them in the cage. Be careful making promises to your children as a lot can go wrong in breeding..... they will learn the joy and the losses. Hopefully more joy than losses.

What Colour Chicks?
Green is a dominant colour......unless you know the male is split for blue you will only get green series birds. There may be hidden genes that will surprise you.

Finally !
A temporary or otherwise safety door of sorts can be made by using one of those hanging mosquito nets popular in childrens bedrooms. The ones that hang from the ceiling on a round hoop. Hang it over you door.........step in and out through the netting and put it up on top when not in use.

Lilley appears to by a yellowface or golden faced mauve. Aussie appears to be a normal green. Here is a picture that shows the difference between a normal and a spangle budgie..its all about wing patterns Normal wing patterned budgie on the left......spangle on the right. two on the right are spangles...... psittacosis buddy....sounds like sitta cose is- Help
Too hard for us to guess. Did you notice if any were sick ? or had pooey bottoms ? or were on the ground prior ? Was there water ( rain ) getting into the aviary ? Tunnels into aviary ? Rats will eat heads and heart and liver ....all you will find is half a body with no head if rats are at work..........rats tunnels in and out or rats still inside the aviary.- New Mousetrap
No....its a tunnel on each side and too small for budgies. By rights no budgies should be flying around my birdroom- New Mousetrap
- Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
The mother of these looks like him BUT the babies have green body colour I will send the pictures to a show judge and ask him- New Born Budgies
If you had nestboxes in your aviary they will breed no matter what. New birds need time to settle in, so removing nestboxes would have helped. Sometimes constant temperature from the hen will make some babies hatch early.....sometimes two in one day hatch in the same nest. Some hens help the babies out once they hear the pipping inside that happens a day or so before hatching. I hope things get better for you- New Mousetrap
If they are happy and have space to fly. kens aviary is 10m by 3m by 2.5 high.- New Mousetrap
I have some baby mice getting around in the birdroom since we are doing the renovations/new flights..... they are getting in under the gaps at the end where the double doors are.- Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
Thanks PT. These things happen when there arent too many greywings around to breed from :rip:- Egg Eating
As budgies and parrots can eat chilli without feeling the HEAT and effects like we do, I seriously doubt chilli sauce will work. Young breeders will eat eggs sometimes and so will birds under stress or worried by mice. I would never retire a bird who ate an egg once...I would always look at the whole picture and try them again later.- Fighting, Egg Eating And Mice In Nest Boxes
The hazards of colony breeding Angus....take the hen out you think it causing the problem and then it will be another hen and another and another......so that isnt your solution. You have chosen the hardest way to breed budgies. Best to keep the aviary for their holidays from breeding and breed them in cabinets one pair per cabinet. Mice have to be controlled as their wee and poop in birds food will make a budgie very sick and even kill them. Why would a mouse eat peanut butter when there is a source of good seed about ?- New Mousetrap
I bought a new mousetrap yesterday.......it catches them alive for those that care to release them elsewhere. I dont, but I still like the idea of how the mousetrap works. It catches multiple mice all night long and keeps them inside until you empty it, dispose of them or whatever. Clearish lid so you can see if you have caught a mouse or not. Works great............first night have mousies. you place it along a wall....no bait needed.......there is a little ramp they walk up and when the balance shifts weightwise it tips them into the inner area where they can freely walk around, but not get back out. the trap is then ready to catch the next mouse that comes along. Here it is ( most likely only available in AUSTRALIA ? Cost $24.95 at Bunnings. Others I have seen at bird supply stores cost twice that much. Kenh told me I wasted my money and it wouldnt work......he was wrong :rip:- Well... Once Again I Could Not Help Myself
