  1. Babies are at fledging point at 4 weeks so maybe forget the feeding and just spend a lot of time handling and bonding. Handling will acchieve a close bond without the extra feeds. Enjoy
  2. Those two grey spangle babies lucked out big time. They went into the nest with the dilutes and greywings where the parents in that nest were excellent big feeders.............feeding 7 babies full to the brim. I think it helped them a lot
  3. Hi Kate, I would see no harm in a social feeding as you put it, BUT handrearing formula is generally meant for younger chicks as its finer and more processed than the feeds they would currently be getting from their parents right now. At the age they are now they would be able to take some BUDGIE STARTER off the spoon ( runny and warm ). Budgie starter has seeds in it and a lot of other good things. Hand rearing formula is smoother. But give it a try.
  4. Beautiful birds Dave.....really nice. You shoulda bought more Congratulations Budgie on the good birds you have for sale
  5. No I dont know if he is split opaline.
  6. You were mostly right . BUT a DF Spangle will produce 100% spangles..........no normals.
  7. Nice hen Shannon Thankyou Liv
  8. I dont use cuttlefish at all. I use calcium blocks and I use calcivet. Grit is for birds who do not hull their seeds. Although some will argue that one
  9. So what chicks would we expect from this pairing ? Double factor Yellowface Spangle and Grey Opaline hen Grey spangles and YF spangles ? First chick arrived yesterday
  10. A great many people have misplaced faith in cuttlebone. Most budgies play with it more than they ingest it. Grit you dont need for budgies. Try using calcivet in her water. Makes a difference immediately.
  11. I SERIOUSLY doubt the RSPCA would do a single thing if you complained to them about this. We have a hard enough time at the best of times getting the RSPCA to see to genuine complaints about birds.
  12. This young lady lived alone up to 18 months of age the moment it was put with other budgies the others killed it.
  13. Note the greywings are NOT opaline as first thought
  14. The roof is done, and we are amidst doing the ground in readiness to get a slab laid. Meanwhile I have been doing metalwork with the grinder to tidy up the door entries from birdroom to new flights. Also framing up the windows in readiness for glass and leadlights. The height from floor to ceiling will end up just over 7 feet high or 2.1m. The ground on the right needs some retaining wall foundations built to support the slab on that side. This right hand side needs filling in and levelling after we lay some blockwork or bricks to create a foundation.
  15. The two chicks in a foster nest # 1 # 2 and the others
  16. Three chicks out now. This one fledged today Two more in the nestbox plus two fosters. this one......... and this one
  17. You need to hang onto some of these chicks mate to see how they turn out
  18. Very nice birds
  19. Breeding them for pets cannot really be done GB as there is no way of telling how short a life they will have. I dont think it will ever come to that.
  20. Great job Splat IT really helps things having purpose built rooms and flights.
  21. Your babies are looking terrific mate...........so many with directional feather too.

I totally understand what you mean now. I once had a chick with bright red eyes, yellow body and wings, green on rump and light cinnamon markings. Turned out to be a fallow who was also carying recessive pied and affected by spangle as well :happy-dancing: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....l=mystery+chick

He is a lutino to all intents and purposes..that seems obvious........... if he was recessive pied his eyes wouldnt be red.
  24. Yeah :happy-dancing: I love his fluffy pantaloons
  25. In future try white pepper instead of cornflour or flour........... less messy and works better and quicker.
