Meet Mojo
That is such a great pity....I hate it when hens do that :thankyou: Bit hard to say if it is a FD or not Renee as we cannot see the important areas.........head feathers etc.....and the photos are very fuzzy. Look at the first photos Liv posted when she thought she had only one...look at the side shot which shows the feather sweeping out from eye and over head. That photo is a telltale sign. Its a good idea to keep photos going at all chick stages as we can look back on things.

Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
Two of the chicks in the nest ARE greywings. The other two have flights and tail as pale neutral colour ( nothing like the greywing chicks whose flights and tail are definitely darkish grey ) so I know they cannot be greywings but something else. BUT......I will go take some new photos Gives me a break from using the angle grinder and singeing my hair :thankyou:

Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
I once had a "greywing " that a top judge told me would be judged as a dilute at one show by one judge and as a greywing at another show by another judge.........guess that one was a bad greywing too :thankyou: PS pass me some of your reject greywings would you PT .......cant get any over here

Finally !
Is access to the birdroom via the aviary ? as I note there is no safety door. If access was through the birdroom to the aviary then you have a safe area. Entry through the aviary leaves you open to escapes. Or is there a door into the birdroom ?

New Born Budgies
Agree with others and the early hatching yellow belly thing. Also there are more losses in winter and unless you have a temperature controlled birdroom, its best to rest the breeders during winter.

Break It To Me Gently
I feel so terribly sad about him, despite knowing it would come I am really sorry Liv. He was the most beautiful creature no matter whether he was feather duster or just plain budgie..........a beautiful feathered soul in birdie heaven. I know you would be feeling terrible about this :thankyou: but you know you did all you could do.

Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
Thankyou PT. I dont know if I have grasped the concept fully, but it is possible my greywing is split clearwing isnt it ?
-
Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
could be full body grey wings what colour are the cheek patches its the only way to tell between clear wing and full bodyed grey wings Cannot be greywings............the flights and tail are far too light.

Greywing To Dilute ? Pairing
This is very confusing   The babies I see as dilutes not greywing seem to have too much body colour to be a dilute. Does that make them a clearwing instead ?

Whitewash In Breeding Box
Mites like red mites, if you havent had them before are INTRODUCED into your aviary or birdroom. Either on new birds or possibly from wood from tree branches brought in. If you employ certain practices in your quarantine program to detect these then you dont have to deal with them. Feather mites on birds are easily detected and spraying the birds with AVIAN INSECTICIDAL LIQUIDATOR will deal with them. As you should not breed birds who arent in optimum condition and health ( i.e. no mite infestations ) then by rights you shouldnt have to put any pesticides or acidic coatings in your breeding cages or nestboxes at all.

What Am I?
Skyblue spangle and maybe greywing too. Most likely NOT recessive pied split. A lot of spangles have head spots although in show types it is a fault.

Finally !
Very nice setup Robyn. You would have to be really happy with that

Sick Cheeky
Try some soft food for him....soak some triticale wheat and hulled oats for 3-4 hours, rinse it and serve. .....try adding extras to it...vitamins, calcivet, egg...whatever you think he will try. Best of luck with him. Its very disheartening to watch a bird go downhill and you feel so helpless

My Parakeets (breeders)
I so totally understand that Marlon breeds his birds for his income. That was obvious right from the start. And I would totally understand that this would be an honorable way to provide for his family. I have done the maths and worked out that the income would be the primary support of Marlons family. I believe the average price of a budgie in the Phillipines is $7 australian dollars ? Would that be right Marlon ? It is also obvious that Marlon is trying to provide the best he can for his birds within the realm of his knowledge. First reaction from some of us.....a lot of us................are more about the ages of the birds being bred. I also have some concern for the fact that a lot in the breeding cages do not even have coloured ceres indicating breeding condition. Obviously Marlons Dad did things this way and Marlon is following the tradition and business with maybe some better condtions for the birds as he can and as he learns about things needed. Marlon also is under some mis information which seem to promote his beliefs and methods in the way he does things. The 12 month olds not breeding idea for instance which actually is not true but Marlon believes to be true. Maybe purely because everyone over there says so, and not so much because it has ever been tried any other way. It is hard to change the ways of a lifetime just on the say so of others who happen to be from another country. I would like to think Marlon could try a new way which I personally believe would result in more chicks per nest and healthier chicks also. I also would not like to push marlon away. We cannot however be judged lacking based on our reactions to such young budgies being bred. We are so used to advising new and young members about breeding age and this topic may well jeopardise our advice to our younger members who may see marlons ways as okay to try for themselves. We must be careful of flow on effects and how young breeders will perceive this practice.

Break It To Me Gently
bummer... never mind... Thanks for looking into it for me Thats odd, when I spoke to Peg she seemed to think Renee was a bird bred from Vinci stock. Yes, she thought so but didn't know for sure. I know that she had Manno, Levy, Norm Wheatley, Brett Wood and Lloyd birds but no Vinci birds from the ring codes. And as I said, she couldn't recall the parents. Not to worry Renee.......we at least know there was FD's on the fathers side.
