okay...............so is the ceres white then ?
  7. **KAZ** replied to gtctan's topic in Budgie Pictures
Since you used a flash on your camera to take these photos, it throws out the actual cere colours we can see. So we cannot tell you for sure. If by any chance the ceres have a lot of white on them it makes them females.
  8. She is a hen because she has a whitish cere. She would also be a hen if she is opaline.
  9. There is a very big difference between cobalt and violet..... in my mind a true violet bird has to be a deeper shade and look purple. I have one in my aviary like that....a cock. In a breeding cage I have a violet opaline hen...she too is visual violet. The greywing hen chick of my skyviolet greywing cock is feathering up to be skyviolet like her dad. She is three weeks old. The intensity of her skyblue fairly rocks your socks BUT it doesnt translate well in photos. She also has the violet hue around her neck at mask level. Her tail is purple. I will email the breeder of the cock and ask about the parents.

  11. :hooray: I know you don't like disturbing your birds after shut eye in the breeding room - but I'd be setting the alarm for soon after dawn and just checking mum is feeding it. :hooray: Will do. I am up at five when the birds start chirping anyway
  12. Renee got to have a cuddle of my greywing hen chick today when she was here. The chick is called FLUFFY :hooray:
  13. It hatched right on tea time. I am slightly worried as at dusk it hadnt been fed yet, but had only been out of the egg half hour or so.
  14. Owning four cats and having birds....I make sure our cats are ALWAYS inside before nightfall, not because of our birds as the cats are now trained not to run atop the aviaries anymore...BUT because I believe cats belong inside at night and not bothering neighbours.
  15. and 007 is busy now making a trophy shelf, .....right ? I hope so, as there will be more to come .... watch this space :hooray:
  16. I wonder does this comment mean there is significant cost to ship birds interstate ? Because, I for one, do not believe that the average cost of 6 or more birds to be shipped interstate at a cost of around $50-80 total per box of birds AND averages out at maybe an increase per bird of around $5-10 extra on top of the birds initial cost....I do not believe that adds significantly at all to costs overall. That kind of money would never be seen by me as prohibitive at all nor deter me from buying interstate. Sorry if I have just taken a segment of what you had to say and enlarged upon it, but the phrase you used peaked my curiousity.
  17. First chick hatched today
