Lamps needed for warmth are meant to be 24/7 no matter what. A tired budgie will sleep even with the light on. Light on also means they feed themselves through the night and that can be a good thing. Sulha D is available at any bird store...also available as suplha 3 sulpha q sulpha quin etc. Triple C is also good. Make sure the globe is one that puts out heat ( the old kind )..............most globes available now do not put out heat.
  2. If you are using a spoon or syringe you just have to make it managable for however you are feeding it. If you ever feel a budgie babies crop you will know it isnt all mushy liquid...it also has seeds and vegies from the parents. Three week olds get a lot of seed fed by their parents. I would start trying them on BUDGIE STARTER off a spoon about now.
  3. If it seems too runny change it, but also be aware that runny poos might mean they are getting tummy bugs too and you must be careful to keep all feeding utensils clean. Never reheat left over formula either as it can introduce bacteria to their gut.
  4. Most formulas say that you change the mixture strength as the chicks get older. Runnier is usually for very young babies
  5. We are doing some more work in there today. Hoping to complete at least one side to shift birds in already.
  6. I have to say I agree...this could have been better served in PM form. Closing topic.

Common practice with birds with poopy bottoms is to pull away the feathers from that area to stop it sticking and to stop it irritating them. Quick pull...not big deal....like when you have to rip off a sticking plaster quickly is better than slow and cautious Give him a warm lamp by the cage ( not the energy saver globes...the older ones ) .....warmth alweays makes them feel better.
  8. Some decent sized feathered fluffballs you have there.......gorgeous
  9. Did some more on the aviary today amidst other things. Here is the perching setup......2 m wide. Designed on hinges at the top and locking pins at the bottom, so it can be dropped down against the wall for cleaning and repairs. Also, so that, under the perches can be cleaned without ducking under the perches
  10. Thanks heaps Daryl
  11. Fluke timbo....you will still get FM in the aviary. I used to aviary breed so I know this to be true.
  12. If she is 5 weeks old I woulod put her in a icecream tub on the floor of the breeder cage, with rolled oats and seed as bedding.......and a drinker inside the cage at floor level

    How old is he ?
  14. We are both feeling a bit flat But we have decided to do some more work on the new flights.
  15. They are pretty things despite their lack of feathers....dont worry they will grow back faster than you think.
  16. To be honest Hannah, we have all given an opinion and thats all we can do. If you are really worried, maybe get checked by an avian vet.
  17. Yeah, I had a beautiful cock who fitted and died within seconds as I watched him. Fine and vibrant one second and dead the next with no signs of illhealth. Dave has a cockbird who fits when being netted. I think over the years I have had about three like this. Good luck with your hen
  18. Two grey spangles so far...
  19. :) :) soon as things settle here, I am coming over to see this for myself............... Great to see you back here
  20. Please post a link to a catalogue............it would be so much easier.
  21. Can a link to the catalogue be posted here ?
  22. Well, the day is done and we did him proud. Morgana did the trip in style. The turn out was huge.................so many people. The ceremony was beautiful. Everything went perfectly well. I was so proud of Ken who stood and said his words of respect for his father..he did a great job and didnt falter once. RIP looked great and had her beautiful birds on display and made a special additional touch for the final part of the ceremony when two white birds were released by Ken and his sister. Many thanks to RIP and also to Adam for his back up hearse which we thankfully didnt need to use, but made the funeral cortege looks so impressive. A really big day but a really great day
  23. Today is the funeral of my father in law, Michael ( Mick ) Morgan. My husbands father. After a year or so of various health issues he passed away just over a week ago. The funeral is today and we have been doing all we can to abide by his last wishes. One of his last wishes was to go out in the blue hearse which we own. So the blue hearse we lovingly call Morgana has health issues herself. A wheel bearing that is on point of collapse anbd we have been trying to get sorted out. However, as the parts have never been disassembled in 50 years noone could undo what was necessary to replace the wheel bearing for the day. Upshot of this is, we are going to risk it. I will be driving the hearse with my father in laws coffin in the back from funeral parlour to the chapel at the cemetary. I see this as an honour. This man took me as his daughter from the moment he met me and a day did not go by that he didnt tell me he loved me. He was the best father in law a girl could have. We have a back up plan in case things go pear shaped. A friend has a hearse. He is going to ride shotgun behind the funeral procession so if anything tragic does go wrong........like a major breakdown....then we have his hearse to continue the journey. So here we will be............our 1959 Cadillac hearse leading,,,,and at the back another hearse following. What a sight that will be my hearse and Adams and thanks to RIP off BBC forum we will have white doves released at the funeral in his honour. PITY there will be noone to take pictures
