  1. All sounds good. My new flights will only have access through the birdroom so no need for a safety door. Try going as high as you can....I have found the higher the roofline the cooler it is. If you can go to 2.4 or 2.7 its better.
  2. Yeah ...one does look like it is too.
  3. AND BABY I just found out from the breeder of the Dad The sky cock you bought to my knowledge no dark factor but some of his brothers had the violet neck markings..... his sire was a green greywing and mum was a green opaline greywing I feel he would be split opaline as all his brothers have bred opaline hens but you will get some normal hens. So, does this mean FLUFFY is not female as the white cere indicates ??? and does this also mean that the green of the parent or parents could have been mistaken and was actually a violet green ?
  4. I would say she is older than the cock, and as GB says most likely around 9 months maximum. The cock you said has WHITE iris rings but he doesnt ...they are still beige brownish and his cere isnt full coloured yet. I agree with GB. I wouldnt try and breed them for another 5 months maybe more.
  5. They arent looking fertile by that photo but photos can lie I candle at around 5-6 days. Have you tried yet ? Might be a bit soon as GB said.
  6. Sorry about the news but it had been too long having not been fed. Buried under others means little as a strong baby will scream loudly to be fed and can tolerate even its parents stepping all over it. Chances are very high it was too weak from hatching and didnt call to be fed loud enough.

  15. So, Please tell us what plans you have for your future aviary ....have you done any sketches or plans yet ? Maybe if we see, we can help you problem solve.
  16. You seem to have your breeding room well organised Shannon. I find I look forward to seeing your photos all the time these days....your birds are looking really nice.
  17. I love them all The dark green pied is also very nice
  18. Mummy greywing has decided she is ready for another round................... I will move the babies into the bottom of the breeder cage in the morning. Other greywing nest
  19. As anything purpose built or with the name aviary attached to it would attract tradesmen with $$$ signs for eyeballs, try looking outside the square. Suggestions. 1. Look for a garden shed of the proportions you need and just dont put all metal to it, remove some sheets and mesh it. 2. Look for a retired handyman who may advertise he can do most things....in your local newspaper. 3. If you have time, take a course at Tafe and choose your modular sections to build in a class. 4. Buy something thats close to what you want, buy some good tools and teach yourself a few new tricks. ( I have recently taught myself metal cutting with an angle grinder and can do all I need for my aviary now ).............with only the odd cut here and there

Yeah I have been watching that I was just wondering if that would be what happens? I have discussed it with some of Australia's top budgie breeders who have suspended open sections and they say its fine as long as its suspended. Cec Gearing and gary Armstrong have the same type of setup with suspended open areas such as this. ****ALSO.......it must be said that doves are able to fly at an aviary and shoot droppings inside the aviary aviary up to three feet in and wild doves carry a lot of diseases.
  21. **KAZ** replied to nitsuD's topic in Aviaries
Check my aviary topic and you will see I am amidst doing exactly the same thing. Suspended so if there are wild bird droppings they should go through.
  22. Shannon...do you remember me telling you about levelling out your nestboxes ?? They are still running downhill which isnt good for hens and eggs. How to fix.....get a block of wood or a clothes peg and put it BETWEEN the nestbox and where it sits against the front of the cage. Blu tack it on if you have to. Then the nestbox will be even again. You said you were going to do it but they are still all cockeyed.
  23. Runny is okay for newly hatched babies....and they feed on their backs anyway. Fingers crossed for the babies to gain strength and improve
