Third and last chick has arrived :laughter:- My Hen Is Not Feeding Her Babies
One thing you should NEVER do is change things amidst parents feeding or caring for babies or eggs..........BAD MOVE. Reverse everything you have just done and see if the parents go back to routine.- How Do Babies Leave The Nest?
It is hoped that the chicks do not try and leave too early, but at 4-5 weeks when they are fully feathered. They will glide to the floor trying to use their wings. It is rare any will be hurt leaving the nest. In the nestbox prior to leaving ( fledging ) the babies start to strengthen their wings ....they flap them madly learning how to make them work IN the nestbox. Natural instincts kick in at the time they have to use them. More concern could be watching who, in the aviary may interfere with a newly fledged baby. Some of the other adults may bother it, but again sometimes the other dads in the aviary feed the youngsters too.- My Aviary....start To Finish
No injuries today? Bruises, minor cuts, and R.S.I- Trying To Make A Travel Cage
They are plastic strips used to join thin panel board....very cheap...$4-5 length something like that .........some have double edges for joining two peices of ply and others have one edge...you want the one edge piece. If all else fails...just screw a lid on with the budgies inside and I will unscrew them this end :laughter: I had a piece of that plastic beading nearby...so here it is- My Aviary....start To Finish

- Show Budgies In Perth
BBC forum has amongst our members, show breeders here in Perth..........myself and Renee, Nubbly, Fran Mc Laughlan, Jan Mc Mahon and RIP and so on. You need to tell us your area so we can advise you on clubs. Joining a club is how to learn things and to get contacts for better birds. You cannot colony breed show birds so you need breeding cages. the aviary is just their flight space and holiday home A few show breeders on here from Perth would be able to sell you some good birds to start out...trying to find them in petshops by chance before you learn a little more is a waste of time in most cases. PM me for details about clubs and we will try and take you to an interesting event over the next month or so before we all break up for Christmas. There are two club auctions coming up too.- My Aviary....start To Finish
I am trying to do some of the popout mesh today but a dud screwdriver bit is giving me grief and also it is raining. I am wet but I have done two sections of the floor of the popout anyway. Have to go do some funeral arrangements business now. Will try and do more later.- Breeding question
Dont add the extra hen. Try removing the first hen for awhile and see how the new hen and the cock relate.- I Think I Have A Feather Plucker!
