Funny Pied
Well.............My funny eyed dominant pied went to a budgie show today. I took him to test the waters so to speak. He took off best dominant pied. The judge was judging the birds in front of all the members and asking them what they thought etc, but he made all the decisions. At the end after this pied was deemed best dominant pied the judge asked....äny questions ?" to which Renee shot up her hand and said YES, KAREN HAS ONE ABOUT HER PIED !! Thanks Renee So then it had to be said about his eyes. The judge looked and declared he had an iris ring. I said NO, LOOK AGAIN. Everyone looked then and decided he didnt in fact have any iris rings, but the fact that he was deemed best dom pied stayed. Apparently according to the judge, this dommie pied has to have recessive pied in his genetic makeup for this to have occurred. PS My greywings also did very well, and another grey spangle..........brother to my good grey spangle and also one of Omelettes babies...did well too.

Funny Pied
Breeder states the father is an opaline green cock and mother is cinnamon grey green dominant pied. The sister of this dom pied cock with the plum eyes, has taken out best in show a few times and won the Busselton Show also. No recessive pied known of in the background at this stage. Will inquire further of the breeder of this pieds mother. Budgie teaser

My Aviary....start To Finish
Yes...this is deliberate............additional security Last night and today saw all remaining adult birds sorted out from the other aviary and breeding room into their new flight alongside the babies flight. I was a little concerned for my one legged budgie PEGLEG PETE as he seemed to not know where he was meant to go, but it didnt take him long....he looked around...flew to the wire in the middle, then across to the horizontal beam behind the perches, then straight onto a top perch........no flies on that boy Sorted more budgies out for the auction coming up, and others went for free to RIP, and the leftovers are being sold later over the next couple of days. None are being shipped. All done and dusted looking a little empty in there ....better get an advance on my xmas spending money for the upcoming auction Still some birds in the breeding room

How Are They Split?
If next year's cock is split for recessive pied, you can add that to the list, too If she is already a recessive pied, as other's have said would it matter if cock was split pied as well or would she still maybe breed pied's?

A lot of birds split for recessive pied would still have iris rings if they were meant to wouldnt they ?

Funny Pied
I was sorting through all my budgies today as they were being moved into the new aviary, amongst which is a dominant pied cock I hadnt paid much attention to lately until now. I am culling birds so I was checking out which ones I was keeping and whick I am selling. Anyway this dominant pied didnt have any spots before so I was looking at him closely noticing that now he had his pied spots. Then I saw his eyes He has NO IRIS RINGS and his eyes are plum coloured like a recessive pied, but he is a dominant pied. WHY ??

Introducing My Feathered Friends
Hi and welcome The spot on the back of their heads means they are split for recessive pied as per this former topic.................. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....mp;hl=pied+spot

Large First Clutch!
Unfortunately, I don't have the room to buy any more birds until I get my large aviary up and running, but thank you for the offer. Renee is offering for you to bring the babies to her to be fostered...not trying to sell you budgies. Actually I am offering to "loan" you 2 experienced birds as currently my remaining pairs have chicks at the 2 1/2 week plus age. Sorry, but how can loaning two birds help with eggs that are already here ? The birds wouldnt surely just take over the rearing of chicks unless they were in breeding mode or on eggs themselves......and they wouldnt be doing that if they were moved or rehomed right now ............. Maybe I dont get what you mean Renee

Large First Clutch!
Have you been giving her extra calcium ? and if so in what form ?
-
Would It Be Wrong...
You seems to be assuming she will become aggressive to her chicks. Have you seen signs of that ? Some who are aggressive to a bird perching too close in their space may not be aggressive parents. I would act quickly if she were to attack her chicks, but why pre empt something she hasnt done yet ? Whenever breaking up a pairing from breeding, especially hens, they all need a fortnight or so to eat well and build up reserves before going back in the aviary...call it a holiday, a respite...but not straight back into the aviary from a breeder cage. Breeding takes its toll, and they need to fatten up a little after feeding babies before being shunted straight back into the aviary.
