  1. Educate her or get her active on this forum. Tell her about underaged birds shouldnt be in a space with nestboxes and they must have another aviary to grow on in without nestboxes. Tell her about colony breeding. Tell her about nestboxes creating an urge to breed. tell her nestboxes are NOT needed as places to sleep. Check what she has used on the floor of the aviary as a bird will nest in hay etc. and lastly tell her we all do silly things when we first start and do not have enough knowledge.
  2. If she did she has caused her own problem and caused an underaged bird to breed and not only that to breed with her father.
  3. Did she put nestboxes in the aviary ?
  4. How is your lighting being as its in the basement ? Any natural light ?
  5. Nubbly in the show cage
  6. Here's the difference in the cheek patches of the greywing spangles and the greywings greywing spangles greywings
  7. As it was really hot today, I didnt chase the budgies around to catch the greywing spangles up for photos. BUT I found a photo of one of them that shows the tail quill
  8. The yellow has washed over the blue feathers making it appear green. You get that with yellowface blues.
  9. What a treasure this will be
  10. What blend are you using ? Whats its content ? Where are you placing the most importance in relation to your chosen seed blend ? Do you change anything re seed on a seasonal basis ?

Re playgyms. I dont use them but if I were to I would just pay attention to coloured dyes or paint on some of them depending on where they were made Easier to clean if the wood is natural. I have had various budgies commit suicide in lots of ways, so I am happy to point out any dodgy toys
  12. Dont forget budgies like large colourful plastic bangles threaded over perches too
  13. **KAZ** replied to ultrav0x's topic in Budgie Safety
You can avoid an issue with chain by threading stuff through the links, raffia or leather etc

They mostly look okay to me Anytime you have any toys with strings or fringing, cut the fringe down to an inch in length as many a budgie can hang itself by weaving through such fringing and flapping and twisting while they play ( I have lost three birds this way ). Sometimes chain will catch a toe, toenail or foot. Best you make a decision based on that at the time re your budgies and size and type of chain. Check where an item has been made and what dyes or paints have been used in them. Natural wood is best. Watch out for chinese made items. Hope this helps.
  15. Hi to all crested breeders, I have been breeding this variety for 35 years and still learning about them. Breeding a Crested to normals is quite okay but you must understand about the prepotency of the crested gene in the crested bird. Breeding just any crest to a normal may lead to the dissaperance of the variety in your aviary. Breeding Crest to crest first is the best. F/C - F/C gives a chick which I call a DF this is the bird to out cross to the normal and any chick that is crested bring it back to the F/C. Great information. Thanks Rob Any photos of yours ?
  16. Pets Paradise Level 1, Westfield Shopping Town Bondi Junction, NSW fraudulently sells fake "pink" budgies ( just for Google to pick up ) http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pottery-glass/Por...n-263204539.htm rare pink budgie an interesting discussion here http://www.budgerigars.co.uk/forum/archive....php/t-827.html
  17. I will go and check for you later I do know, that now that they are moulted, the difference between the greywing spangles and my greywings is more obvious in their cheek ;atches. The ones that are greywing have blue cheek patches and the ones that are spangle greywings have two colours in their cheek atches.....the blue of the greywing cheek patch with the silvery colour of a spangle running through it. Anyway...........I will catch up the greywing spangles and take a closer look at their tails later today for you Greywing spangle on the left ( hen ) and greywing on the right ( cock ) note the cheek patches ?
  18. Say hi to my buddy Rob Dunstan freshly moved over from W.A. when you see him there PT...............he's a great guy
  19. Your birds are looking terrific Matt. Showing quite some power in the shoulders amongst other great features. Well done
  20. Congratulations Daryl. I love your birds
  21. Not necessarily I'm not sure if I should smack myself in the head or aim it at you! Maybe both... Well, I didnt say it was a boy thats all. Only Ratzy said male. Maybe some more photos...close ups and no flash. What is your gut feeling about this bird ?
  22. Not necessarily
  23. Use the search function Ratzy and they are all over this forum in one topic or another. They arent a mutation but an accident of sorts, so not too many people will have experienced their own. Liv did, Daz did and theres an article on them too on BBC.
  24. Agree....................some kinds of advice we dont like to listen to despite it being best for the birds 2 Nestboxes. 4 birds. 2 pairs, so it seems. They weren't hanging pots, they're coconuts. They used to sit on them, not in them. They stayed in there until just after I took the picture because the only one who shows interest in them these days (since the bonded male and female moved into their own cage) was the grey hen. I figured since was bonded to a female that it wouldn't cause too much issue. Since her mate now seems to be male, it was suddenly an issue. Just so you know, I've come here open midedly and in good faith for advice from more experienced people, not be talked down to. There are more respect for posters on other bird boards, but they are not budgie boards. If you are truely interested in helping people learn and bettering the lives of their budgies, then perhaps you could be supportive? I guess this will get me banned, but honeslty, don't bother. I feel very unwelcome, so won't be returning. This wont get you banned.......you have to do a whole lot worse to get banned around here. Its is a pity the written word can be so misinterpreted so often. Good advice so often goes ignored. Your choice if you choose to listen or not really. I am sorry you feel that way. We only try and help with advice based on personal experiences so others do not suffer heartache. Quarantine is one of those sensitive subjects and one where some of us have had experience in things that go pear shaped when steps are missed.
  25. Me too. I am working half the day ( leadlight repair ) and delivering it later and relaxing once its done. Sometimes my "weekends" will fall in the middle of the week depending on workload. Leadlight is half done......waiting for putty to set, then back into door frame.
