  1. They are quill mites arent they Matt ? Not the average feather mite ? Quill mites can interupt the blood supply to a feather shaft causing it to die along the length of it.
  2. I dont know if its too late.....I sent you stuff on how to ID quill mite however to compare it to though. Quill mite can cause these kinds of issues too as they bore holes in the feather shafts to get in and out, and they disrupt the blood flow along the feather. Worth a try checking for quill mite mate.
  3. The reason breeders do not always euthenase a french moult chick is some of these chicks drop their flights and tail due to nutritional reasons or shock/stress leaving the nestbox. Some of these chicks grow them straight back again. Some chicks definitely proven to have french moult and recover their flights have a form of immunity. There will be differing schools of thought on this from different breeders, but in my on experience breeders are not, on the whole quick to euthenase anything that loses some flights based just on the guesswork it has freench moult. A case where a definite diagnosis helps. Touch wood, I havent had any for 2 years. Can you open up the feather shaft and put contents under the microscope to see if there is any quill mites inside the shaft ?
  4. I think younger. The only photo that seems to show iris rings was one taken across the face of his eye and others dont show it like that.
  5. Considering she tries to chew things like the wood, if you sat her in the middle of a large tray of seed, would she try it ?
  6. Need a picture Simon
  7. Legrings do have a different colour every year, ( which colour varies between countries you live in ) but also a code with the year on it and breeders code initials. If your budgie legring just has 55 in it, it would be a generic legring bought over the counter at a bird supply place. Is there more on the legring ?
  8. Yeah...there ceres both look the same. They even have me confused
  9. New home and a clutch would be a bit much and looks like it may be a third too so GBs advice is very sound. Cardboard box ?? Not a good idea to raise babies in either
  10. They'll look better real soon.
  11. trembling and unstable is due to not being able to maintaim body temp due to being so sick and unstable is a bad sign of a bird sick enough to be nearly ready to die. If you pick them up and feel the keelbone ( the bone running vertically down the front of the chest ) ....And it feels sharp then they have lost a great deal of weight. Any delay in getting them treated asap will result in more deaths I am afraid. They do need urgent treatment.
  12. Did you ask how many clutches in a row the mother has had ?
  13. Do you have any meds ? In a cage together is fine. You might want to check the aviary to see how wet and horrible it is under thw woodchips.
  14. First things first.........pull them all out of the aviary into cages with some sulpha meds to stop the diarrhea, and warm lamps by the cages to mai9ntian the body temperature. Couple of things can be happening................ Moisture on the floor of the aviary can bring coccidiosis.............symptoms sound like it. Rodents can go through the aviary and contaminate the food and water and create same symptoms and deaths. Birds could have had another health issue that has now resulted in megabacteria which is secondary and kicks in after other things have brought down their immunity. If you have no suplha meds you needs something like that to stop the diarrhea URGENTLY. you cant treat them or get them well with them in the aviary. They must be pulled out and treated. Especially in case the probloem is in the aviary. Since you mention wet season I suspect coccidiosis.
  15. thanks kaz their getting bigger and bigger also the chicks out nests this time are mostly really big thick birds makes it hard as some come out small and grow like wild fire others come big but really dont progress in length just their feather is beautiful and feather height above head mask ext all good i still dont really know what im looking for and club night showings arnt really helping me understand what im looking for as the birds are judged as we are in discussing things so and by end of night all birds get taken pretty quickly and everyone goes own way not really giving you a chance to ask what the person who judged them judged them one i am however really enjoying our club meetings of late their have been some changes and their really good changes im proud to be a member of this club and hope i can put in with my birds and assistance or ideas im going to be showing a few birds at our club show this march so more for fun as i dont belive any of my birds are really of showing standeds yet but want to partake for the experiance Could you ask if you could follow the judge around as he is judging and just listen ?
  16. Must be a full moon or something in the water........................ Please be nice to each other and do READ POSTS PROPERLY so there arent misunderstandings and people getting annoyed at each other. Remember its harder to say sorry, hug and be nice when we are physically worlds apart and cannot see what someone intends to convey instead or what we perceive them to mean
  17. Your birds are looking really nice
  18. Black spots can also be red mite so look a little closer at those black spots just in case.
  19. No..........most breeders dont.
  20. Just want to say CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Who would pay ? Someone who acts on impulse AND has a credit card
  22. feeding budgie starter warm off a bent spoon will help in this case as it contains seeds
  23. What a handsome little fella he is now Pie  Good to see you ON again
  24. So you were told to add a box for the budgies to sleep in ??!! I guess then you have budgies breeding that are too young really ? Under 12 months ? You wont have ten eggs in each nest hatch....the last ones get so poopy that they dont.....and they may all not be fertile anyway. Read up on candling the eggs to see if they are fertile. When babies come out of the nestbox they glide to the floor and will be fine. Some come out too early and need to be put back
