  1. So true. A swelling doesnt always mean you are getting a bonus with that particluar budgie.
  2. Females are well known for "scalping" other birds...their partners, their chicks etc. Scalping is whats just happened to the baby. Common also when female is teritorial over a space. She had the cage then you added another ? The vet is the only option now, but meantime warmth.
  3. Quite frankly we dont truly know if there will be a problem with the chicks. To know that you would need to know the birds and their family line and still cross fingers. Inheriting a problem or not may be the least of her problems. She is hoping a 5 month old baby will be a good mother. And Matt is right. She most likely will proceed anyway.
  4. Possibly but you have to look at it like ....if there are hidden health issues inherited by the dad and the daughter also inherited some of these issues then by breeding the two you double up in a potential problem. You would have to know whats being carried in the family line.............good or bad.
  5. From eggbutt to laying is a day to a day and a half usually. Buying a hen with an egg on board is no sign you will have a whole clutch. She may not continue after this egg or another due to the change in her environment. Wait and see.
  6. Time to learn to crop feed and if you had that skill you could have supplemented the feeding earlier on. All babies should have been out in the breeder cage to be fed not some in the nest and others out.
  7. I am not sure. There are more experts on here on mutations than me. I dont consider myself an expert yet

  9. Both are spangles. he is skyblue spangle POSSIBLY ( flash used ? ) she is yellowface skyblue spangle POSSIBLY def both spangles..........shade of blue is in question as it seems a flash was used in one of the sets of photos
  10. Your green budgie is a female and the blue is male They arent as young as you may believe as they have iris rings developing. The green female is getting her coloured cere as is the male. I would say around 4-6 months.
  11. good to have you here
  12. Sometimes it looks like they do, but they dont. A few do, but most dont. Good luck with your eggs
  13. Maybe next week they will be selling the super rare black budgie or even one of those extra super rare red ones
  14. She may not actually be incubating yet. Often when they are in the nest just to lay the next egg ( and yours is only halfway through a clutch ) people think they have begun incubating when they really havent....just sitting in there to lay the next egg is all. Maybe she hasnt really begun incubating yet.
  15. After all this Renee, how about you showing the generous and giving and loving side of your personality and adopting a more open and giving approach in the future to anyone inquiring after a bird you bred,..... no matter what it sold for or no matter where they bought it. After all, you do believe in Karma, and you DO have a giving spirit and soul.
  16. Where have you been hiding Daz....you have missed a lot of stuff
  17. I once had a pink cat for months after I tripped over the white cat we owned while taking a newly made bowl unset of raspberry jelly to the fridge :laughter:
  18. another good reason for keeping good records I supose.
  19. We kissed and made up days ago....none of us are at odds with each other
  20. It is commonly known that the nastiest diseases in budgies are resistant to the usual bleaches etc anyway. I would go with Splats suggestion of the VIRKON S.
  21. I made a phonecall to Pets Paradise head office yesterday also about this shop. They are investigating apparently.
  22. I was talking yesterday with a breeder of national winning birds and she said a lot of hers like to spend time on the floor now too. They can fly, they just dont want to most of the time. Is it seasonal ? Hotter weather ? Is it as the birds progress in feather development ? Is it learned behaviour ?
