Amy bought that aviary from another forum member. Have you checked the quokka for second hand aviaries ? Sometimes buying a garden shed and converting it is cheaper than buying an aviary too. Welcome to our forum
  2. All the feather dusters I have seen in nests came from normal looking parents...not long flighted. But who knows whats in the gene pool ? There's only one way to find out what you will get breeding them and thats to try.....and of course not to each other as you already know
  3. Doubt it JB. Hotly contested topic would be french moult.
  4. Check this out http://www.tudinfo.eu/budgiegenex/ Colour and pattern Guide http://www.tudinfo.eu/budgiegenex/colorguide.html
  5. I have always gone off the DF being mostly clear of markings as do many other forms of info out there. EXPECTING to have a DF dom pied chick in this batch doesnt necessarily mean one of them is as expectations range over a few clutches. Just the same, was interesting in this batch that an almost normally marked parent bird with a spot on his head turned out to be a dom pied
  6. any I have had have been the usual variety of dom pied to get DF's that look like that...............mostly clear wings and clear body colour except for darker colour patch over the rump. My expereince with these only.
  7. My youngest was a 10lb baby too
  8. I missed the meet, been a little busy running around getting other things done too. Kicking myself now. Thanks for the link to Gumtree. apparently their breeding season is spring so can i assume there will be more around soon or am i reading the wrong info (quite possible with the internet). Well, my friends ringnecks have finshed double clutch breeding many weeks ago so I would assume its finished now. The birdclub meet is always on the last sunday of the month. Well worth a visit. There were some lovely handraised parrots of varying types there yesterday
  9. A thing to be considered also is.............. advice given three years ago by some people would also be different to advice given NOW. Just as Novices would know a certain amount when starting out and then by the time they move on and even up into open breeders.......would advise differently with time and knowledge. Delving into old topics and old old advice would not necessarily equate to advice given if this topic and others was posted on the forum TODAY.
  10. I will try and get them interested...................son in law isnt ïnto "pets" or animals or birds much.
  11. A MOP is another term for a feather duster. Another name is chrysanthemum budgie...all three are the same. So it's all in the wording!! Thank's Kaz. So do they just appear or are certain birds likely to breed them, or is it just genetics again? Seems to be if both parents have it in their genetic background.

  14. With the hibiscus they get everything on the branch.....leaves and flowers as well. Mine dont like bottle brush either.
  15. This topic has been trawled up from the bowels of BBC...........over 3 years old and I have seen Joey around in donkeys ages Looking at dates of topics is a big help before answering in them.
  16. More information on this ? and where did you hear this ?
  17. Looks SF dom pied to me based on DF dom pieds I have had. DF dom pied Pegleg Pete my one legged DF dom pied
  18. Fantastic. Love the posture and stance
  19. What are your winters like in Australia? Where I live in Western Australia...just cold and rainy. No snow. No below freezing temperatures.
  20. What males this one a DF dom pied ?
  21. Cant help you much as you have cold Canada weather and we dont get it that bad. Heating an aviary here wouldnt be a consideration really. The full spectrum lights are meant to have only a life of 6 months before needing replacing too, so may be an expensive option for an aviary itself. We have low voltage night lights for the aviary and I have a fluoro fitted to the birdroom which lights up the two aviaries when I need it. Looks forward to seeing yours evolve
  22. Birds do not get pregnant. What makes you think this is so ? How old are your birds ? A lot of people think that seeing mating means a preganancy. BUT bird do not have pregnancies nor does mating mean eggs and babies. Without knowing ages of the birds it would be irresponsible for anyone to advise adding a nestbox or encouraging breeding. Please tell us more.

Budgies like to fly across the cage. With perches each side running front to back they can. With the perches as they are all they will do is SIT, or SIDLE along OR fly from the perch to the front of the cage and back. Two perches front to back each side also gives you a perch straight to the nestbox ....if you are using them for breeding cages. Easy to cut perches shorter one end and add a slot.
