New Breeder! Help!
have you candled the eggs to see if they are fertile ? Is there any difference in colour of the shell of the eggs. Pearly white is fertile. Peachy coloured is not ,,,,and white with dark rings or coloured streaks on the shell is a dead in shell in most cases.

French Moult?
I agree. If there's no sign of losing wing flights you dont have much to worry about at this stage.

UV light makes cable ties brittle ...they fail within a year or so....prepare for that or use another method.

French Moult?
Generally the tail is the first thing you notice, then the wing flights fall out. Pick up the baby and see if the wing flights are loose or any are lost already.

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
Some of this new owners can source the info by coming to us later. The thing is if we go overkill it start to cost us too dearly in printing. My original concept is...........if we help the average petshop with info about health and sexing for the birds they buy in, and we can also help them with anything while in their shop................then they should be more condusive to us leaving any info sheets for customers........info sheets that direct them here. Not too much though in the way of info sheets, as it all costs and we arent geared for that kind of expenditure or financial commitment to go overboard.

My Aviary....start To Finish
Calley has found the top perch and looks happy enough in the cage. I also gave her a larger food dish to make it easier for her to find both up top of the cage and down the bottom. Thankyou.....I am starting to see good things in the aviary Thats good. For right now she is trying to figure out what has happened to herself I guess.

Bird Toys
I dont know what they are made of, but they do splinter once broken so I wouldnt use them. Even the thicker plastic toys in my aviary get chewed up by the budgies.

My Aviary....start To Finish
She is a little stressed by her " new health condition " but she is now in a cage of her own and has to learn to find her way around to her food and water. The cage is just one I was given....not too small and not too large considering her impairment. She is doing a lot of cocking her head and listening.

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
I also take the time, ( if I have it ) to recage the petshop birds according to sexes. If they have three or four cages, I put baby boys in one, baby girls in another, then adult males and adult females. In doing some positive things for them they also take on board the criticisms

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
For sure there is a need for shop staff to be able to 1. recognise illness in birds they are being offered for sale from breeders to them..so a health check info sheet for petshops with pictures so they dont buy birds with scalyface etc. 2. recognise males and females by a chart and info we can provide for staff. with input here we can refine it all and start putting it into practice....we can adjust methods info sheets etc based on results and feedback

Pet Shops...........time To Give Em A Boost
I had in mind more of a BIRD WATCH GROUP rather than inspectors as it seems more like we are watching and helping not necessarily an authority that inspects their premises and birds. psychological connotation I wouldnt have the email address but give the shops posters with tear off forum address for "further assistance" for the budgie purchaser.

My Aviary....start To Finish
Well thats just great....she is the mother and grandmother of nationals entrants so she deserves a bit of spoiling. I also have a funny feeling that she may be tamable, even after all this time. Once you are holding her she loves a head scratch and a bit of fuss ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- soft food time in the aviary --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Brothers

My Aviary....start To Finish
Just a point to make.........I DO keep a few cripples, and birds with issues. I have a one legged budgie and a couple of oneds with wonky legs, one with a broken wing etc. I would rather Calley ( the blind DF ) was spoilt in someone else's home than making do here. Keeping her in the aviary, means she flies into walls and panics and she also makes the others fly madly about in the process. I could keep her in the breeding room myself, but if Little budgie wants her too she can go live there. Calley doesnt mind a cuddle it seems VIDEO This is her when she hears a noise ( me ) besides the show cage she is in

The knot in the log is barely half inch deep Luttle Budgie said she will take the blind girl. I will put photos up of her shortly.

My Aviary....start To Finish
Just found a white DF spangle hen in the aviary acting very strangely. I worked out she is BLIND. Tested her fully and she has gone blind. She has produced some nationals winners. Anyone want a cage pet budgie ? Euthenasia may be an option. Meanwhile she will be put in a cage on her own. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- some of the other budgies My one legged boy PEGLEG PETE Young cock bred from Clint Ault hen and Gary Watson/Cec Gearing cock One of Omelette's boys One of Omelette's girls Young greywing cock
