Always advertise privately in the free trade papers. BUT do not take purchasers through to your birds or aviary...always have the birds for sale in a seperate cage where they cannot see your setup. It protects you from later and possible theft of birds.

Any chance mice are going through the cages ? They can climb aviary mesh and access cages ? Because that would explain some deaths related to their droppings and wee in food and water and also hens getting off nests. Photo of setup would help work out a solution.

Since they travelled in the dark of night I would guess they settled down to sleep and werent going too crazy :laughter: Splats boxes are excellent !!!

Dad I would say is dilute. I have two like him that were sold to me as greywings but are dilutes. I coudnt tell you which parent is carrying the yellowface.

Well to get a greywing out of that pairing at all the rec pied had to be split greywing or dilute .......they had to be split blue as well and split or visual yellowface..post pictures of the parents and babies.

For sure. There are so many ways a chick can die. Just yesterday when I was busy with ken at the hospital there was an early hatching in a nest so the chick died. I discovered it today. Its when more than the average expectations in a nest that die that we try and figure out why. Whoever said breeding was easy :rofl:

Quite often chicks will die early if they are carrying a disease their immune system cannot cope with like french moult, psittacosis etc

I bought two dominant pieds ...a cock and a hen. I also got a sky violet cinnamon cock.

A stressed or hormonal hen will do this and sometimes there is no real reason.....but its best to save the cock to remove him to another cage and halt the breeding and rest the hen. On of mine........ Cock and what he used to look like the hen the cock died soon after being attacked.

Its the extras and setting up that has to be accounted for that is sometimes hard to work out. There will be equipment to get and medications to have on hand and those times where a vet just has to be called. Being in tune with the birds, their state of health, age related breeding decisions that will save you vet costs if you can follow some guidelines etc. I dont really recall any time at all where my birds paid for themselves to be honest, even when I was breeding a whole lot of pet type birds. Maybe they didnt hold their own financially because of me setting up for them and giving them all I could to keep them healthy and well fed etc. BUT in saying this, there is always a market for hand raised babies. We get a lot of inquiries here. $35 seems to be the right price for them sold privately.
