  1. Budgies rotate and shift the eggs in and under them and out again and all take turns being moved into the right positions for a certain period of time. So I still say that at this particular moment in time the photo was taken.......it was a fluke.
  2. 3 fertile and three not or three too early to tell. Smart budgie ?? NO.........fluke
  3. Good move
  4. Could you divide the cage between top and bottom so the babies have their own seperate area away from Mum and Dad ( a kindie cage ) just in case marigold gets nasty and hormonal while breeding ?
  5. The thing is..........I hear all the time from various people who find birds in their yard or clinging to the sides of their aviary. I hear all the time from others who "found" a bird............these people often race out and get a cage to keep it in and after awhile get attached and end up keeping their found birds. Not everyone looks for the original owner. So, often the bird is safe in someone else's home and they just havent looked enough for the original owner. So, do your letterbox drop of leaflets in your block and around 3-4 other blocks nearby. Put a notice in all the vets, pet shops and bird supply stores and at you shopping centres. He may show up yet. You have to be sure, in your own mind, that you have done all you can to find him.
  6. Maybe they saw the Dr Harry video and thought it was a good idea I think you need to spend some time with them and have a very good chat Ratzy Do you have a book you can lend them in the meantime ? What part do the friend's parents play in these decisions ?

A lot of us have experienced the more dodgy pet stores and the bad advice they give re birds, cages, and them selling budgies with obvious health issues. You may find quite a few of us are on the whole anti pet stores because of this. Its good to know you work for one of the good ones Some of us monitor the bad pet stores and keep them on their toes, with prompting for better conditions, better advice for customers etc. Just because someone owns or works in a pet store does not make them knowledgable. This is not aimed at you.....just generally speaking. I am glad you feel the way you do about where you work. We know there are good pet stores out there. Would love to hear some of your positive stories about RSPCA animals.
  8. Nestbox wasnt even connected either I daresay stuff like that may encourage kids to breed budgies.

We have princess parrots........about nine at last count I love them Has your boy grownj his spatules yet ?
  10. I really do hope you dont have trouble this time like before Clancy, but since you go to school you cannot watch over them all the time. It is a concern, thats all. So, here's an article on COLONY BREEDING http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...lony%20breeding that may help you make it work. .....and Clancy ........in the past you have come on the forum posted things and left and we have posted answers and you never return, look at them or answer. So our help or posts to you has seemed wasted....... ( not talking criticism here....but in general all answers or posts ). Please check back in your posted topics and answer others helpful advice to keep the topic moving along and to get the help you need. The more info is provided the more we can help. If you arent sure how to find your topics or posts click on your name and go to your profile page and see your topics there
  11. My advice is based on my experience of colony breeding. I havent always been a cabinet breeding show budgie breeder. I just want people to go into it with their eyes open thats all.
  12. Good luck
  13. Thanks Kaz, If i may ask, how do you euthenase them. I have a friend who is a vet nurse and she has offered to take it away for me and do whatever she does, but i am curious what you think the most humane way to do this not so pleasant job is. From what you described in your reply i think it is a deformity as when the chick is in my hand the knee joint is red and if you move the leg forward it looks as though it has no obvious hip joint. This is the down side to breeding budgies, Yuk!!!!! Due to people getting upset in past topics re euthenasia we dont discuss it on forum. PM me if you need help in that area
  14. We have pictures on this forum somewhere....if not check the FAQ section. Most people forget to use our faq section. It wont be from "being squashed" ....it may be a deformity and not splayed. Sometimes chicks arrive with a seperation in the bone between their "knee joint" and hip. If you have one like that.....If I do, I mean, I euthenase it.
  15. I am excited that you are excited. But I cannot offer you anything positive about colony breeding
  16. I wouldnt get too excited. You are colony breeding and you may have problems.
  17. OOOPS we missed your question .......sorry  Sleepiness can be him feeling not 100% while moulting. How is he now ? Another moulting budgie in the aviary
  18. There are a couple of kinds of clips you can get for attaching perches depending on where and what you are doing. By the way Here's your boy and he doesnt have a name
  19. Here's the boys again Quiche ( moulting ) and brother EGGNOG
  20. Mine was green too, but was seen and caught
  21. I lost a 4 week old newly fledged baby that flew out the aviary door once............early morning. By 6 pm later that night it came back and I ended up catching it ( she stepped onto my finger from a tree branch ) so there is hope. We also got back a princess parrot recently that escaped.
  22. He may not be too far away....what have you done so far to check the neighbourhood ?
  23. Well if Budgie starter is enough and its in the recipe, then they are getting EXTRAS arent they
