  1. your welcome, I would worry about the foil heating up too much an burning the budgies so I personally would take it out .
  2. Every budgie is different. At times if one jumps in then it is monkey see monkey do. Pretty never bathed but when he saw Merlin doing it in the water cup he started to but not as much as Merlin .
  3. Maloney I think you want a yes or no answer and at this point since you didn't have her at a very young age, I personally can not give you a definate answer on that. Maybe someone else will but it doesn't mean they are right . Be patient time will tell. If you read the article I posted it even states at times you can't tell only through breeding
  4. shorter days will throw your budgies into breeding antics so to speak. What you can do is cover them earlier so cover them at 7pm and then uncover them at 5 will be okay. I personally cover Merlin at 7:30pm even if it is light because he squawks to be covered. He is uncovered at around 7-8 in the AM.
  5. the hardest part is holding them, it usually takes 2 people 1 to hold and 1 to cut and if you cut too short a budgie can bleed to death very quickly because they are so tiny. A dog or cat clipped nail too short will not kill them.
  6. the best way to know is to bred her with a blue series bird if you get greens you know you have a green bird if you get all blues you may want to try again to a blue series to see if she is really blue or split for blue.
  7. Kaz that would be AWESOME
  8. well how about how it is shown in the first post with a general description it doesn' t have to be as detailed at the BES which you did a WONDERFUL job on
  9. yes you can tell from the expression
  10. I try and educate myself which leads me to googling all the time so the answer to that is no not everything certainly not the Black Eyed Selfs
  11. A very good start for sure here are some things I have learned about hospital cages and what to consider. Just passing on for information to ensure the one have will be safe and perfect . (hope you don't mind ) good temperature for a hospital cage is between 27C- 30C when keeping the cage warm you can use a spot light or heating pad but keep one side of the cage slightly warmer then the other side so the bird if he gets to warm can move to cool down. They have a choice. If you use s spot light remember to position over 1 side of the cage and you can if you want use a red light therefore it is not so bright. If you don't have a red light then you can position behind a sheet to reduce brightness but becareful it doesn't touch the sheet. If you use a heating pad you can stick it to one side of the cage or again under the cage floor but only on one side. Always use a thermometer to make sure that your bird is not overheated. You said you were using foil on the bottom of the cage? Just asking why? On the cage bottom, use newspaper, and underneath the newspaper you could use a soft sponge or some soft material in order to cushion the bird if it should fall. I hope this helps Oh you have the cage built and the basic's here is a site I found that can help you ensure everything is in the right spots etc... Building a Hospital Cage It looks like you may have referenced here already as your cage looks similar Hats off to you splat many of us are not prepared but you will be , thank you for sharing your ideas.
  12. It looks wonderful what I would do though is you can leave the perches there or put them down a little lower almost to the ground along with the food. When Pretty was sick he was not able to perch and therefore if he wanted food or water he would have not been able to reach it in this cage. What type of lighting are you using? also is there on the side vents for circulation? You want it warm but air to go through and a tempature indicator would be good to so you can keep the room a constant warmth. You can buy the stick on ones and add to the inside of the cage.
  13. When I read it I wondered because I read that from a different site. The gene works in the same way erasing the blue or the green yes? The 2 colors they come in would be yellow (lutino) with cinnamon marking and (white) ino with cinnamon marking yes? Just making sure I am thinking along the correct lines.
  14. Clipping nails is easy if you know how but tough if you don't if that makes sense Here is an article from our FAQ on nail care Clipping My Budgies Nails from BBC FAQ Section

  17. gorgeous, I love rumps (Laughing out loud) because this is really where the color is intense on most birds. Kaz's Steel in his picture of his backend is gorgeous.
  18. excellent pictures they are sure enjoying
  19. " If the Yellowface genes are alleles of Blue this result should not be possible. However,it should be pointed out that in the instances I am aware of where it had been claimed that a Green to Blue pairing yielded Greens, Blues, and Yellowfaces in the nest, the Yellowfaces involved were Goldenfaces. That in itself suggests the Green birds in the pairings may not have been true Greens at all but heavily pigmented Goldenfaces." I am quoting this from this article, I have always found this interesting in terms of the YF gene The Yellowface Budgie In the picture that Nerwen shows it does show to be olive but on the fligh a yf2 violet is possible. Some birds you have to pair with certain birds to display what genes they are really carrying. Anyways I hope this article helps a bit more.
  20. great news Kaz, congrats!!!!
  21. Paul what a beautiful bunch of babies 2007 is looking to be a wonderful year indeed for you
  22. can't say for sure something you have to breed them to see, the yellow face 2 gene can be very light to very dark yellow
