This is common I found for older budgies to do to newer budgie, it happens with same sex budgies and different sex budgies, Pretty did this to Merlin in the beginning and Merlin told him off. I am not sure if it is a dominance act or a sexual act (because this is the way the male will mount the female to mate), it could be either. I wouldn't worry about it if Baby is telling Dale off then it will stop.
  2. With the description you gave I would say a Double Factor Spangle and looks to be male to me.
  3. yes you can give them sprouted seed just make sure to smell it to make sure it is not rancid.
  4. looks wonderful, he is going to be a very busy budgie

Yep looks boy to me , he is a doll.
  6. Yep, I have heard and I agreed with the others above, I just wanted to see the back of the bird for another reason and Neville threw in that thinker about mottled pieds .

Pengiun males do raise the chicks while the female go off hunting.
  8. Opaline is the reverse stripes on the head and the V between the shoulders what you are describing is very common in spangles where the body color runs through their wings. I always say opalines look look "bald", and no they can't change mutations like that.
  9. Oh Daz, I was enjoying the mystery of her mutation.
  10. Well to be more sure of a mottled pied, Daz, what did this hen look like when she was a baby? Did she look like a normal baby or was she always like this?
  11. I agree, I also think you should enter that cute picture for Budgie of the Month
  12. What type of plant was it that you removed. Can you put up a picture of his beak for us to see, he may have just scraped it up on the branch.

there are certain constants that budgies can say easily so that is something you may want to look at when naming him like s, h, p, b are easy for them to pick up so when you do a name think about that if you want him to be able to say it, Merlin has yet to say Merlin but both said Pretty Baby or Sweet Baby Bird all the time .
  14. okay...lol warm here lol, opposite season I forget plus it is night for you too.
  15. More picture's of Lacey...... Lacy's stripes and throat spots don't seem to be brown or grey...they are a darker olive green with white flights. Her eyes are black See here you said her eyes are black, but we were discussing that she does have Iris Rings correct, so when comparing her to the Black Eyed Self thread her mutation seems to be moving toward that thought process, anyone else? I am not too familar with the BES. Description of a black eyed self: A black eyed self bird should have their back, rump, breast flanks and underparts all an even shade of colour throughout. MARKINGS: Faint markings are found on their cheeks, back of head, neck and wings. EYES: Dark with a white iris ring. LIGHT YELLOW (Buttercup) : has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches and a neutral tail feather suffused with ground colour. DARK YELLOW: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches and a neutral tail feather suffused with darker ground colour than that of the Light Yellow variety. OLIVE YELLOW: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches, and a neutral tail feather, suffused with darker ground colour than the Dark Yellow variety. White: has white suffused or pale violet cheek patches, and a neutral tail feather with ground colour suffusion.
  16. Oh see on your other post, did we put her down as a dilute? I would if I were you bring up that question back on that post and say you think she is a BES, because I think you just may be right but I don't know that mutation very well.

best thing you can do is type this into a google search engine and add reviews you can read about what people thing about it, you may even type in reviews and bird rooms with it and see if you get different types from people that have birds.
  18. do you have a full picture of her back without you holding her?
  19. Elly replied to a post in a topic in Budgie Behaviour
Budgies bond and their feeding behavior, grooming is not indicating that they are gay by any means but it is a "social" behavior in captivity and in the wild, what you saw is very normal and in fact if you have 2 males only you will see the same type of behavior.

He looks like an opaline sky blue the picture is kind of dark, you positive a boy correct? It is harder to find opaline boys that is why I ask . I know it is hard to name them I had a tough time naming Merlin too. I tend to go toward the color of the bird and see if I like any meaning or like Kaz did with the Cloud names. What were you thinking?

reminds me of going downtown here where I live and throwing seed or bread and the pigeons flock all together or even like feeding a bunch of ducks, great pics.
  22. if she doesn't have an iris ring she can't be a BES only a DEC
  23. very nice, it will be a great thread to follow for sure .
  24. Anne, does Lacey fit the description above for the requirements especially the absence of an iris ring?
  25. I missed this thread for some reason, glad I came across it what a charmer
