I love looking at photos of your birds thank you for that this morning, I really like this picture would be great for Budgie of the Month, looks like she is doing a dance move, you should enter it.

You received good advice what an incident...you will probably have to wait for those feathers to molt out to completely get rid of the red staining.

  5. He is a doll, and that is how Pretty progressed, his breaking point was around the 7-8 month mark for us .

Budgies usually do this when they are settling down for a nap or talking to themselves or another budgie quiety, it is time of rest when they do this also.
  7. I don't comment on the breeding journals much as this is not my area of expertise but I do read through them, I am very sorry to hear about your loss pearce , hugs, rip.
  8. We had 2 pictures that tied but one of the pictures was removed from the contest so here is our winner submitted by: bird_paradise

Yes, Frontline could be dangerous to a budgie, just like they have different ones for cats and dogs there is a reason, I would not let him ride on him until the fleas are gone and you have given him a bath to take any residue off which I believe can be done after 48hrs of application after that it is in the blood system of the dog. I did a google to see the answer to this and I didn't find anything concrete. It is unlikely they probably would get fleas but there is not guarantee that one won't get on the budgie and bite it since budgies are warm blooded. I would just keep an eye on your bird and if you see anything that isn't right call your avian vet for treatment. From what I read Ivermectin would be the treatment of choice.
  12. Looks very male to me  All birds are different they say that females do this and males do that doesn't mean they can't do other things too. Pretty was very quiet and never moved it took a long time. I believe once quarantine is over you will see a different personality once you put him in with your other bird.

Very sweet looking , I agree a boy, as for names Ollie is what comes to mind.
  15. I was thinking along the lines you were Neville, he is a young bird so we will see if the cere changes or not.

Pretty was like Piccolo for the first 6 months and then he started to come out of his shell. I find that they are quieter when they are alone (depends on the bird) but when I introduced him to Merlin a whole new personality came out so this is just the beginning both birds are different of course but he will come around when you intro him to Cosmo too. Pretty didn't have anyone for the first 9 months so he was really quiet for a long time.
  17. Did you bird that bird Daz? I assume yes? I would say that with so many mutations mixing it is hard to specify anymore without knowing the parents or breeding the bird out. The best way we will know is if the cere turns blue or stays pink because it looks male yes?
  18. with visible iris rings? another type of recessive pied? The DEC don't have visible iris rings. That is what I would have said but it states the iris rings are visible. what do you think pie?
  19. Daz, the bird doesn't look recessive pied and the iris rings are visible as noted above. Wouldn't be ino as the eyes would be red.
  20. With the recessive pie already going through it's first molt the cere would have gone more of a very light tan or bluish, being that he is a little older I stick with boy because recessive pied's cere do stay pink, have a tint of purplish blue and are very smooth looking as this one is, my Pretty was a recessive pied in my signature.
  21. sprouted seeds are more nutrition then before they sprout, just make sure you smell them like I said because they can get rancid on you, in the FAQ there is an article on soaking and sprouting seeds under Food Section.

glad to hear everything is okay, if he yawns you will see the tongue, I even think I have a picture of Pretty on here some where yawning and you can see the tongue.
  23. All birds have iris rings what Kaz means is that the iris ring never becomes visible to the human eye .
  24. I dont have a clue what the white bird is. The white and green bird were born around Nov of 2008. The bird that you are speaking about here is a Recessive Pied and would be around 8 months, since the cere has not changed to a tannish it is a male, it will stay pink for the rest of it's life in this mutation, their eyes also stay black and the iris ring never becomes visible like in other mutations. I just bought the blue bird yesterday. The third picture he is a greywing and he looks to be at least over 6 months since he doesn't have the baby bar lines which indicates he has had at least 1 molt. I am also confused with the age of the green and white birds as their eyes are all black. I explained that above why the eyes stay black, he looks young he looks like he just went through his first molt because I can faintly see the baby bar lines that have receded back. I would say around 4 -6 months. The first bird, is an Opaline Hen and looks around the 4-6 month mark too.
