Budgie Of The Month Emblems
Personally, I believe all of the entries are excellent and I would like to use them all so we can rotate throughout the months, I would add your name that you are the creator but I will need to upload them to the BBC Photobucket Account so if you decide to delete out of your account it won't affect using them, so if you can reply on this post and say sure that is okay that would be wonderful . Mauve Or Violet Grey?
Slate is a rare mutation, it is a color adding gene just like violet or grey, it produces a very dark bluish grey in white-based budgies. The darkness of the slate varies slightly according to the dark factor of the bird. Slate, like violet, can be present in a green (yellow-based) budgie, but only produces a darkening effect. True slate only appears on blue (white-based) budgies. This variety is extremely rare. Basic Genetics: Sex-linked (on the x-chromosome) to see a picture go here http://www.budgieplace.com/c_slate.html plus there is an article about Slates too. I agree with with Neville, had told me.

Welcoming Schnitzel
He is a cutie, he is a Skyblue Domanant Pied, and I would say around 4 months, it looks like he is starting to go through his first molt.

Mauve Or Violet Grey?
I went and asked some advice from Neville, a member here that knows his stuff and I barely ever disagree with his words of wisdom, here is what he PM'd me Hi Elly I think the chick is both violet and grey. The cheek patches are quite a bright blue which is usual for a bird that has both mutations. I think the base colour is probably cobalt

Mauve Or Violet Grey?
Not sure I agree that the hen looks like a dark factor grey although greys are pretty difficult to tell in the dark factor series. But like you say IF she is carrying a df then it is possible for the baby to be mauve. If she isn't carrying a DF then the baby could only be a cobalt never a mauve you know so then this debate would be over BUT if you can get another picture of the Grey in natural light that would help too . I don't think it is a mauve personally I think he is a pretty Cobalt to be honest , until I see better picture. If you look at Merlin in my signature he is the pretty much the same color. I can't see how he is carrying a grey gene because grey in a white based bird the out come is a grey.

Mauve Or Violet Grey?
I would agree with GB that it's LIKELY to be a grey violet but not impossible for it to be a mauve also given that the mother COULD be either no dark factor, single dark factor or even double dark factor (although she does look like having no dark factor). For the chick to be a mauve it would have to get 2 dark factors from each bird the mother would have to carry at least 1 dark factor for this chick to be a mauve. The father is a Yellow Face I Cobalt Violet (carries 1 dark factor) the mother is a Yellow Face I Dominant Pied Grey and the grey is dark so I am saying she is carrying at least 1 dark factor, they can produce a mauve chick. Very cool that they produced a white faced chick The chick has too be either a cobalt or a mauve (these are base colors indicating how many dark factors) with the ADDED factors of grey and violet I would still like to see better pics of the chick in natural lighting. This is my personal opinion.

Goodbye Chicken
Hugs, I can understand where you are coming from the same thing happened to me when Pretty died suddenly leaving Merlin the sole budgie. He has remained the sole budgie and has done very well. They will call for a couple days but what you will find is if you leave him the sole budgie that he will come around and start to bond with you more. If not and you decide to get another budgie do make sure you do a 30 day quarantine. Hugs.

Hellp
Check out the FAQs and you will find all this infomation and more...there is an article for Taming Your Budgie too. You may find out that though your male will be more friendly and that is okay, I would work with the one that wants to be worked with especially when you are working with 2 because budgies tend to follow each other so if the female continues to see the male friendly with you she may come around even better.

Sick Bird
