You should try and get her to step up on your hand inside the cage with out taking her out. Go to www.budgietalk.com and look at the taming tips for older and/or more skittish budgies, this is very helpful.
  2. Good on you. Where there is life there is hope.
  3. I'm all teary-eyed now . Sniff
  4. Hi!

Wow, you are so lucky, not to have lost him. Go out and buy a lottery ticket.
  5. Quarintine is done for 30 to 45 days, because even if your new bird looks healthy, it could be carrying a hidden disease and the stress of relocating into a new home can bring that disease out and your budgie could pass it on to your cockatiel. The reason for 30 to 45 days is most diseases if any will show in this time. I know first hand how important quarintine is. if I hadn't quarintined I would be treating all my budgies for scaley face now. The reason why you should not house a cockateil in the same cage as a budgie is because: 1. They have different dietry requirements 2. The larger cockatiel can badly hurt the budgie 3. The more aggressive budgie could hurt your cockatiel. You can however let them outside for flight time together (supervised) and house them in cages next to each other (though not for the first 30 to 45 days because of quarintine).

Post a picture of her cere, so that we can get a better idea of it.

I read on budgerigarsgalore.co.uk that letting them exercise, out for free flight time is good for the parents and the babies.
  8. That is what I would assume anyway
  9. There Petey looks like a definate boy

That's what I thought. Why make it boring? Apparently it is better if they are given the ability to keep active, babies are usually healthier, so I have read. So I think keeping toys in would be a good idea. Flight time is, apparently, good for them during this time as well.
  11. Well if it is 8 weeks old and has a blueish cere then it would be a girl. Ceres for boys don't go blue until they are 3 to 7 months old. From the pictures I would say girl, she has a purplish coloured cere, with a bit of browny pink and large white rings.
  12. Well she has pied spots of yellow on her side doesn't she? All budgies with a spot are dominant pied, but not all dominant pieds have a spot.
  13. Nome of them are spangle. The dark factor will affect the grey, it will make it a darker grey.
  14. Wylie isn't a golden face, he is bluer than my Arkady who is a YF2. Are you sure Sylvester is a YF and not a dilute green? If Sylvester is a YF then: Half your babies will be YF If he is a green then Half or all of your babies will be green. All the males will be split for opaline., but none will BE opaline Half or none of your babies will be dilute Half of your babies will be cobalt and half sky blue (if Sylvester is a YF) If he is a light green then you will get cobalts, skys, light greens and dark greens (depending on whether he is DF green) No spangles. For the next pair, Tweety and Tazzy: Combining the violets and dark factors: If Tazzy is single factor violet and Tweety does not carry any violet, same ratios for your previous pair too (possibly, depending on whetherpuddin would have violet)) 50% sky blue 25% cobalt 25% violets You will get half or none recessive pieds Your female babies wil be cinnamons Half or none will be dilute. For your third pair: Yiou will get all or half greens. For the blues that you have it will be hard to say whether they will be yellow face or not as we don't know what daffodil is hiding, but you should expect at least half to be YF2. Half or all of your babies will be clearflight pied. None of your babies will be opaline but your males will be split for it. You wont get any spangles in any of those pairs. And any recessive genes such as ino, fallow, cinnamon etc could show up in any of your pairs. Hope that helps.

    Why no toys?
  16. Yes I would say girl. I think she is also a dominant pied int he first picture. So a female, light green opaline dominant pied.
  17. They do it just for fun too. Arkady will flap really hard out while holding onto his perch and then he'll suddenly let go and go swirling up to the top of the cage really fast.
  18. Hi!

    Oooh what happened?

I would say if they have a coloured cere already, wait another 9 months to be on the safe side. If they are baby like still, (baby coloured cere, bars, no iris ring) wait about 11 months. This should give you a safe amount of time.
  20. Biff looks like a yellowface type 1 sky blue, with a little bit of violet on him. He is quite dark for a sky blue, almopst cobalt, but because his violet doesn't go all the way through his body he can't be a cobalt. What does every one else think?
  21. Godlie, looks much lighter in colouring than my yellow DFS. I think goldie cood be a yellowface or dilute?? Yes I have noticed that DFS seem to have a small amout of colour show around their neck. My saffron has a faint line of olive colour around her neck. About your French moult babies. Can they fly? If they can't, can i ask you a favour? Will you give them flying lessons? Because I think perhaps that if they start to have lessons at a young age they may be able to regain flight and I think that would be a record break through if you managed to accomplish that.

That's what mine do, they keep everything nice and tidy. One time Arkady made a little poo pile of all the poo's he had collected and tidied into the corner.

Hey Daz, your dark green hen has a blue bum in the picture. Is that just the camera? Or would she not be a green? http://home.gil.com.au/~dwellsadsl/chicks/Chime.jpg Beautiful birds, by the way.
