First of all, you shouldn't be colony breeding. Females will fight over nest boxes and it can get really viscous. Either, remove the nest box or seperate your breeding pair from the other female. How old are your budgies? Budgies should be at least a year old before they can be breed and 15 to 18 months old preferebly. Is your cage an indoor or outdoor cage? How big is it?
  2. It could be french moult. Or it could be due to dehydration. Most likely it is French moult. You should get your babies checked out by a vet. French moult isn't usually fatal in budgies. The baby will regrow its flight feathers however usually they are deformed and the baby can't fly. This isn't so bad. I have a budgie that I believe had French moult as a chick. She can't fly, but she has lead a perfectly good life. They are known as runners and really benefit and love exercise wheels. My runner loves her exercise wheel.
  3. Just as I was about to take the nest box out, I discovered that Isis had started renovating the interior on the nest box and now she is spending a bit of time in there, chewing away. It took them 3 weeks to get the hint.
  4. 6 eggs so far. Yay! The other pair of budgies are starting to clean out their nest box now too, so they are starting now.

When I apply medicines I grab them in a blanket and hold them in a blanket, so that they associate the manhandling with the blanket rather than your hands.
  6. 4th egg today! Yay. thankyou Lovey.

I once watched a vet program where a parrot had one nostril blocked and it was caused by a deficiency and high fat content in his diet, as he was only being feed sunflower seeds. What do you feed your budgie? Maybe he is deficient.
  8. Blinkie is a very upstanding member of this board. Him and Ozzy have a huge fan base and must satisfy their fans. This site is for people to talk about their budgies and if you can't talk about your budgie more than once then there wouldn't be many postins now would there. I talk about my budgies a lot and all other members talk about their budgies a lot. I love hearing about Blinkie and Ozzy, and Lovey's Pretty and Merlin and then Apple and Munchy and then Bobby and Kirby and Belle and all the other budgies (sorry if I didn't mention yours!). That is what this site is for. I love talking about my budgies. Arkady Arkady Arkady Arkady!!!

But she has removed the mum. The mum passed away unfortunately. Jule: It sounds like papa is doing a good job and I wish you and the chickies well.
  10. Haha. These two still haven't started yet. I'm gonna take the nest box out in a week and then reintroduce it later. The female just recently moulted and has hardly any flight feather left on her wings. Do you think she won't want to mate until after they have grown back, because it will be less energy consuming and may be she'll have better balance during mating??? (Laughing out loud)
  11. That second one looks like a lutino, as it seems to have red eyes. I would say a lacewing as well as you can see the wing markings very slightly.

Do you have a cuttlefish bone and calcium and iodine block in their cage? If not you should go buy some as they are a good source of calcium, which is especially needed during breeding.
  13. Well she has laid 3 eggs so far. She is due to lay another tomorrow. She is a really good mummy and started incubating them straight away and is hardly ever off the nest.
  14. She laid her second egg yesterday and it looks like she is gonna lay one tomorrow. She is looking after them. She spends most of the day in the nest box and has rolled both eggs into the middle of the concave. I decided not to mark them as I'm scared of dropping them or something. They look so delicate.
  15. I had 2 boys and a girl and it worked out fine. I prefer even numbers, that way no one is left out.
  16. Well she laid her first egg today!!! Yay.
  17. Well this is Saffron, the soon to be mother: Double factor spangle And this is Izzy, the soon to be father: Normal sky blue :ausb: When he had his wings clipped: Here they are together: And with the other two: Saffy has completely cleared out the nest box now, she doesn't like wood shavings. I picked up and extra iodine and calcium block and a cuttle fish bone for them today. :bluebudgie: I need to get some more recent and less blurrier pictures.
  18. I wouldn't really know. Maybe you can put him in his own cage and sorta tame him up. Hopefully someone else will come on who has had experience with this.
  19. Best to have 2 boys and a girl. Girls like to fight over boys.
  20. Yeah I'm gonna use a pencil. She's a double factor spangle, so I'm actually kinda looking forward to seeing her babies. Not to mention the spangle, but you just don't know what colour combinations she carries.
  21. Ha ha. You won't stop. What I said in the other one is that they are both yellow faces and that I want them both cause they are so cute!!!
  22. I read somewhere that it is not a good idea to add vitamins to the water of breeding budgies, because the mother drinks a lot of water during breeding and it can cause vitamin poisoning. Just use cuttlefish bone, iodine blocks and etc that they can chew at their leisure, whereas with water they have no option and have to drink the vitamins if they thirsty.
  23. Blondie is gorgeous. Can I have her?
  24. I'm sorry to hear that. Why did they think you were stupid? Maybe you should try another vet.
  25. Haha. You double posted. I replied in the other one
