  1. She probably was stressed from being chased and such. Being held in hands probably was scary, but then she probably also realised that those hands didn't hurt her and they returned her to her cage. It really does depend on the bird though. I wouldn't worry about it though, you did nothing wrong. I once tried the method on one of my birds and it didn't work, I don't do it anymore. It depends on the individual.
  2. Hi

    Hi Moo. Welcome
  3. Yes I was trying to get pictures today, but the camera kept stuffing up. Actually I was looking at them today, and they don't seem to have splayed legs anymore. I think it was when I put them down on the ground they put their legs out, but today when they walked they kept their little legs underneath them. I'm going to keep an eye on them in any case. The younger baby looks darker than the older baby so the older baby may be a grey wing!!!!
  4. These two budgies are such brats! After having Isis go into the nest box for over three weeks and do nothing I decided that this weekend I would remove the nest box and leave their breeding till later. Then as I walked through the door into my bedroom. Arkady and Isis were having a very fun time mating. I hadn't seen them do this in this breeding set up beforehand. So I have decided to leave the nest box in for another 10 or 11 days and see what happens, After that i will remove it.
  5. Thanks Bubbles, that's awesome.
  6. Sorry I haven't replied in a while. Another baby hatched two days after the first one however it died the next day. The older ones squashed it, I think. There haven't been any more babies since. The oldest two are getting their feathers and sofar they both look like yellowface blue spangles. Pretty. I hope the youngest one will be green. The older ones look like they may have splayed legs. Does anyone have any tips on remedying this problem?

Is it like she is trying to fly away while holding onto the perch? Because that is just them having a bit of fun and exercising.
  8. Tee hee. Cute
  9. Welcome Don't worry reitbauer, I was in the exact same predicament, only my girl decided she wanted to lay her eggs in her exercise wheel!!. I gave her a nest box, after discovering this and she promptly moved into it. However I did this before she had started laying any eggs. I guess you could try and give them their box back and see if she lays in it. If not I would just let her go ahead with it. If you remove the eggs she will just lay more. If you put the eggs in another nest box that she hasn't been in, I'd be afraid that she wouldn't know where they would be and abandon them? Are you prepared for babies? As in are you able to house them all? I would say let her go ahead with it and give her the nest box as an option and if she moves into it permanently then you can give her her other eggs as well. Do you have any pictures of the nest site?? This forum is usually a very good forum. If anyone is being a bit harsh, ignore them, because we are not all like that. Most of us are very nice people and we welcome new members and their budgies. The fact that you came here to ask for advice, shows that you care about you budgies and that is what matters most.
  10. Yes that's right. The difference is that a lutino has no melanin or pigment on its body so it only has the base colour, this is also why their eyes are red, as the choroid layer (the black layer) in the eye is not there because the melanin/pigment is needed to make it. A Double factor spangle has all its pigment as it has black eyes a dark eyed clear does not lack pirgment. It is actually a cross between a clearflight pied and a recessive pied.
  11. Another baby hatched today they are very cute. So now I have three babies, with 5 eggs to go.
  12. Looks like a girl in that second to last picture.
  13. Na. Heat doesn't really affect them. My other two are breeding just fine, so I don't know why these guys are taking so long to nest. But they are still using the nest box.
  14. What in particular is worrying you Weather? I have read up on lots of stuff.
  15. They still haven't laid any eggs yet.
  16. Two little babies have hatched so far. They are sooooo cute. They have such tiny feet! One hatched on the 13th and one on the 15th of december and another is due tomorrow. Saffron is being a really good mum and feeding them well. they have full crops and are very active.
  17. I have two eggs at the moment that are a darker yellow colour compared to the other ones whihch are white. Does this mean they will be hatching soon? The due date is around now.
  18. The mother rejecting them because they smell like human, is an old wive's tale. Birds have a poorly developed sense of smell. You can start handling the babies from one week onward, but I would recommend 2 weeks onward. Always wash you hands before you toch them as their immune systems are new so are more susceptable to illness when young. Tap the side of the nest box before you open it so that you can give the mother a warning.
  19. Beau is not a double factor dom pied. He is a single factor. Double factors look very similar to recessive pieds.
  20. Isis is a dilute of some sort and she is just over a year old and her cere is very crusty brown at the moment.
  21. Well she now has 8 eggs and she has finally stopped laying. They should start hatching any time soon.
  22. I plan to house them if I can. But I have a big enough cage for all of them if I can't find a home for them.
  23. 7th egg today. This is gonna be a big clutch.

While you are waiting for them to get healthy, read up and find out as much as you can about budgies and breeding so that you can make properly informed decisions when you need to.
